Wotg not installing

So recently I've been convinced to start playing FFXI to at least try out the new stuff and recap my jobs and such.

So I started installing FFXI again, I don't have any of the discs for the PC just the torrent with PO/FFXI, Zil/Cop/Toau/Wotg. When I installed them I forgot to do wotg with them, and I started updating my game. After the update was finished and I logged in the game gave em the mini-warning that I would not be able to enter the area's of zones that are related to the expansions that I don't have installed.

So when I got to the main screen the ones not lit up were Wotg, and the 2 current Abyssea expansions. I thought it was strange the abyssea ones weren't installed since they are registered to my account and they're supposed to install when your game updates. So I log out and run the install on Wotg, and the really strange thing I found with it was that it installed in about 10 seconds, where as all the other expansions take quite a bit longer.

Once that is done I reopen the game, same error message, and the title screen still shows me as not having Wotg installed. Next I tried going into add/remove programs to uninstall wotg and hopefully reinstall to see if that would work. When I clicked to uninstall it, I got an error that said "Failed to install wotg". So not only is it not installed completely, but I can't uninstall it either.

Any ideas on what I can do? I assumed the Abyssea expansions are not considered installed because you need wotg installed to use them? Just a guess I have no idea on that part.

Yes you need WoTG to access abyssea areas. try another torrent to do the install of wotg or you could try the file checker part of pol and see if that will help any, make sure you select to check ffxi and not pol.

I had tried running the file check earlier also, sorry i forgot to mention it but no it did not help me at all. I downloaded an iso of Wotg from Epical when he posted it in this thread. http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/70890-WotG but it does the same thing that the one I have does.

And then not even 2 seconds later it says it's done installing Wotg




Next when I try to uninstall it I get the first image again.

I would reinstall at this point, although that doesn't mean you'll have to download all the updated files again.

Simply copy and paste the PlayOnline folder into another directory on your computer first, then uninstall all of FFXI properly. Afterward, reinstall it (including WotG, of course), and copy and paste the duplicate directory you made earlier over the fresh installation. It will overwrite everything old and leave everything new (e.g., WotG's contents) alone.

Ideally, you'll try to log on, WotG's (and only WotG's) updates will download, and you'll be good to go.

I would just reinstall..fighting against computer is usually pointless when you get that kind of unhelpful error.


I'm almost certain it's not your issue here since I dont remember this error message, but for WoTG, I had to use an EU torrent, and change some file in the registry to make it works (changing every EU for NA).

Well so far, I agree that reinstalling would solve the problem except for the part where installshield is failing to uninstall WotG and ToaU

Need to uninstal ffxi has a whole, i dont think you can uninstal expansion alone.

Uninstalled everything that I could, it will not go away, there isn't even a playonline folder anymore so I have no idea why it won't go away.

there are some tools for removing programs from add-remove, some googling will point you in the right direction

I tried using Windows Install Cleanup tool last night, it managed to remove Toau for me but Wotg wasn't in it's list either but I'll see what other programs I can manage to find to help me out with this.
