    And maybe add some actual immersion to behests...

    I mean this battlewarden guy basically tells me the end of world is nigh, but gives us five minutes to gather. Then all these mobs just pop and they aren't really threatening anyone. The nannygoats and ladybugs are just happily roaming about as far as I can tell. It's not very heart-pounding. In fact it's kinda the opposite. Laughable really.

    This game needs frickin' BESIEGED! Now that would be exciting in HD.

    But yeah... on the same line as Behest mobs being decidedly non-aggressive wildlife most of the time, I have begun to wonder about how legit the people who made the Necrologos were when they apparently are using the pages to seal away a fuckin' pair of monkeys.

    Except it wasn't fun for conjs that got shit for their efforts. We couldn't nuke, we couldn't debuff, and the second we tried to heal without soughspeak we got skulled. People keep thinking that if someone was fun for -them- it was -fun- overall. I seem to remember the same thing in XI with rngs, nins, and wars thinking that partying and baance was just peachy perfect during 2004.

    You're right-on with your other comments, though. I know SE wanted to make fluffy bunnies and buzzy bees for starter content because the game just launched, but seriously, I could have played Flyff or something (and not paid a cent) if I wanted to kill harmless wildlife and fauna.

    I miss Besieged so badly. I'd take any sort of invasion system that actually featured worthy opponents or some sort of believability. I can't imagine that some camp is going to be suddenly overrun with ladybugs. This game wants us to take it seriously, but the actual things they put in are just silly as shit. There aren't even any houses around these areas - where's the fucking threat?

    Insert AH, remove wards and replace with player housing. Retainers then can be summoned there!

    Starting areas have to keep the mobs simple or it makes life difficult for new players. I've only done one 40 behest though and I can't remember what the mobs were.

    Hamlet defence will probably arrive by March anyway, which sounds like the besieged everyone talks about. Defending a hamlet will sound more logical than defending a camp in the middle of nowhere. Problem is some of these hamlets are a pain to get to, like the ones in Shroud.

    Shroud are the only ones really, La Noscea Hamlets aren't that big of a trek once youre at skull valley/blood shore and Thanalan are likewise not THAT bad.

    On the topic of Behest, I get the point youre making Lucavi but I've never faced Ladybugs in Behest. It's always Kobolds, Hippogryphs, Elementals and other awesome stuff in addition to common mobs in LL. I think its symptomatic of a larger problem in game though, all the stuff at the Camps is kind of bland. Leves have you searching for Imps that have escaped from prison cells, or mobs that have terrorised farmers in the region, and yet theres no prisons, no farms to make it believable.

    And farflung camps meant to be holding the line against shit don't feel that way, I've yet to come across a camp that has aggressive mobs that could endanger people AFKing there. I mean even XI had Outposts that felt realistic (if you AFKed on a lvl~10 job in Valkurm at the outpost you stood a good chance of dying from Goblins and such, likewise with Terrigan or Qufim, there's others I'm sure but those three come to mind immediately)

    Fucking brilliant spot for a NM and its 500 little goat buddies. My leve fishing point is inside that cave and I just saw someone else fruitlessly trying to get at their Fire Bomb leve targets that were in the middle of that crowd.

    Good post. Adding some random farms with some NPCs that said some generic shit would be nice. Later- after they gave some to some townsfolk that have been there from the beginning- they could give some of those NPCs random quests. It'd help a lot. And the whole concept of aggressive mobs seemed fucked thus far. I remember in beta, running from Ul'Dah to Grid. Some friends I was with that had XI experience were like "this will be fun, but no way do we make it". Well, not only did we make it, but it wasn't even hard. Then I said "Oh, I bet they'll add a zone in between for retail. Of course, that was wrong, but part of immersion in a game is a feeling of danger when traveling. Not the feeling of scrolling through your XBox dashboard to get to the next game, which is basically how travel between camps for leves feels.

    See, this is the kinds of complaints I see that make me understand how it can be confusing for SE to be succesful making anything based off players wishes. One day, everyone is whining too many aggressive high level mobs in the way when they are doing leves. Now people are whining the game isn't dangerous enough and that afking at a leve camp (?) should be more dangerous and get you killed for better immersion?

    Weird, the NM usually pops at the other side of Nophica area. Only time I've seen it there was when someone trained it to the aetheryte and it depopped shortly after.

    I guess you don't know and it's too late now, but for future reference all of those rock formations link each other. The one you were looking at, the link is in the northeast pointy corner and it links the one above the aetheryte (I think the point nearest the first one I mentioned). It's a long winding underground tunnel filled with goblins. I use it all the time on my mining leve which often has points in both rock formations.

    But yeah, the NM definitely shouldn't go near entrances like that.

    There is a way to balance it, obviously, and the point isn't so much that the game isn't dangerous enough, its just that it's dangerous in annoying ways, instead of ways that get your heart pounding and into the game, i.e. going to Jeuno your first time and trying to avoid goblins and tigers by using your wiles and the terrain vs. being blocked from getting to your exp camp in Qufim by the weapon in the tunnel to Jeuno and having to wait until someone else aggroed it or a high level killed it for you.

    Amazingly I haven't dc'd yet upon return. With my shitty internet it's pretty hard to believe since I usually dc a few times a day at least. I'm guessing the patch broke something with certain hardware.
