Played it. Loved it. Time for something new.

They just released X-Men from 1992 on Live. Throw some XP type thing on it and there you go. Fun for all from ages 7 to 70.
Seriously, if you want to get high end gear "stress free" MMOs shouldn't really be for you, but if you like that combo, you won't find better than WoW.
I've never noticed but it seems the wards crash every 10-12 hours. Actually set up both my retainers in Uldah to sell some stuff and over the course of 24 hours I've had to resummon them twice. Wtf? Can't sell shit when your shitty system doesn't even work as intended.
So basically, MMOs should just be for the unemployed? If you're working it's just not possible to put the amount of time into a game that XI required to get high end gear. If you missed a few LS events over those who have the time to attend every event that want the same item as you, you'd be last on their points table and get the item last. As a result you get your Ridill or whatever a few years later. No one wants to deal with that shit.
Gear should be hard to get, but not to the point where the game becomes your primary job.

Not to mention when it takes a year+ to get that ridill the person who gets it usually "goes on break" from HNM and never returns again. It's just a shitty system I'd like to see never return. I don't mind things like upgrading to a relic weapon as you can do that on your own time making cash and usually a dynamis shell will get you your items so long as you're past a certain stage.
Also, battlewarden didn't show up this past hour for behest. Guess he slept in?
His iPhone didn't work.
Yeah I agree, it took me 2 years and 4 lses to get my Haidate back in the day when it was still hard to get 05-07. It was because I worked a lot and missed misc. events here and there which is cool, just shitty. I hope they find an in-between ground with XIV. A soloable option like the kill x monsters with Magian wouldn't be too bad. Just don't let it be the best gear, but like 3/4 as good as the hard to get shit.
Haidate though was far and away the best for a really long time. The second best was like fucking RK Legs, it was ridiculous back then.
This is where the faction NM system in XIV could work well. You can get faction points in your own time and have a guaranteed shot at an NM (which gets rid of the camping everyone hated). Just make the NMs give you an item 100% of the time and make items rarer by requiring more than one of them. They can still have items that take a year to get, just require five runestones or whatever. No randomness, no bullshit, just hard to get.
Try having rid for 8 months before you got haidate. Nothing like a rid with barone!
Back then I had the retarded playtime to get items like that, but the LS hardly ever did sky because we were so busy living at HNM camps. Camping Ulli was a pain in the ass on it's own.
I think they were on to something with einj by implementing HNM drops to an instanced event. You get the best of both worlds then. Campers can camp, casuals can pop on for events. Would like to see something along those lines.
Stressful, as in difficult fights that require lots of coordination and skill is fine.
Stressful, as in horrible game mechanics, loot tables, and RNG drop rates is not.
No, that's a bad idea. But there should be at least /some/ types of items around for people like that. Maybe very few, even, but I really think there should be /some/, I enjoy having rare things around. I never managed to finish my relic in xi, but I'm still glad they had those out there. Just because I can't get something doesn't mean it shouldn't be around, so long as you leave me enough to do and a vaguely realistic chance at getting the hard to find bits too, if I decided to drop everything else.So basically, MMOs should just be for the unemployed?
And then there should be plenty of content everyone can enjoy, and get, in a reasonable manner. Not too easily, because then people would loose their goals in short order, but nothing you'd have to be unemployed or a student to pick up. If we're going to use xi analogies, limbus comes to mind. You could run through each zone quickly, and you'd get decent sets of gear in a reasonable amount of time without camping or having to compete.
Limbus seemed so cool because you had to get sea first, therefore you felt elite. If an event like Limbus was standalone and all the wut, lmao, rofl, u, herp derp people had the gear it wouldn't seem as cool. Good idea though, more things like COP + SEA would be nice. It was always cool back then to have these areas you had to earn access too.
Now now, mister casual. Shame on you. Apparently this joker doesn't know how hard raiding guilds in WoW work when new tiers come out, and how hard many of those new encounters are. Heroic Professor Putricide was insane for quite awhile. I'm laughing at how Arch seems to think that only "challenging" content comes from XI, when the only challenge involves:
A) Beating the other LSes bot, because only one of the -single- mob spawns for everyone on the entire server.
B) Getting the drop when you easily crush the mob because of how easily it is to use the same strat to kill every boss in the game.
Stress itself isn't a problem. It was stressful to wipe again and again on heroic ICC bosses when they initially came out. It was also rewarding to finally drop them, and to gear up the tight-knit guild within a reasonable amount of time. It is -beyond- stressful to lose claim to some joker LS's bot again and again, and when you finally get it, no drop, only to lose to another bot the next time. It was -beyond- stressful to have 5 years of the game revolving around a single set of items that were the be-all-end-all that essentially all came from single mobs that could be botted to oblivion. It was so stressful that SE never did it again, and yet you're still praising the system. Stress is fine when reward follows the effort. Stress is not fine when you can't get a fair shot at the fight, and even when you do, if you win, you still have a piss-poor drop rate. Honest, hard work should be rewarded. It greatly is in WoW; it rarely is in XI.
Get the fuck outta here, Arch. Your "points" are a joke, to the point of trolling.
"Sorry guys I just happen to be busy for the rest of eternity during raid times. You might see me logged in and doing dailies during that time but I'm too busy to ever raid again. No you can't reschedule the raid time either I can't make any time. I'll still be logged on 8 hours a day though. I might coincidentally have time to raid again when the new bosses come out."
- every person who ever got the one rare drop they were looking for in an MMO ever.
Faction leves really are the answer to solving horrible RNG and should negate the need for a system of forced slavery to get an item you want.
- Completing 400pt NM faction leve gives runestone.
- Trade in 5-10 runestones for the insanely rare godly crafting mat/piece of gear you wanted that RNG never provided to you (and that your shell would never give you because you went out to dinner that one night 8 weeks ago instead of going to an event)
- People can play at their own pace acquiring faction credits and can then do the faction leves with their friends to eventually get gear
I hope we eventually get something like this.
Yea I hated the kings simply because it came down to people botting all the time. Granted I was one that eventually started to bot and never looked back(I assume almost everyone did), but it was a shitty system none the less. I don't mind killing a NM like that over and over but we have to be 'killing' it and not 'loosing claim to another ls 5 days a week'. A system like that just invites people to bot, something I'd like not see return to XIV.
