That video.... oh... em... gee...
Edit: going to take a cold shower now.
Those videos are the worst, one of them shows 3 rank 1 Lala's trying to get as close as possible to the airship in Mor Dhona. In what twisted mind is that entertaining.
Soon coming to US TV's near you!
Reminds me of that one UK commercial for FFXI
are any of them past rank 15?
Wait... what? Don't tell me this is like a FFXIV dating service thing... Wish I payed attention in JP class now
it was something that started when the game was released to try to drum up interest in "This is some celebs or artists playing the game, isn't it cool!?" mentality.
Ahh wow. That reminds me of the pre-release days when I was actually excited to play this game. So depressing.
I remember seeing some thing about some jpop star playing it and thinking "oh neat". Yeah.
That's what some idiots decided was fake advertising because the character name/server combinations the celebrities "used" were made and not actually played (for obvious reasons).
I'm sure the server stability gets worse with every patch. I've had R0 twice since the patch, once during a leve and now during a synth. Weird part is the LS chat is still going. Since the first december patch the game seems to have gotten worse not better.
Server limitations. That's why we can't have an AH or a mail system or chocobos or content.
That video wasn't even a remotely good idea.
I still believe one of the worst design choices for FF14 was to make it "realistic".
There's a wide degree of welcomed realism in games (think physics for example) but that doesn't a game focused on realism can turn that good.
In FF14 your weapons broke because it's realistic, you need a job to buy stuff because life's hard, bad monsters instant kill you because there's no realism in starting zones having just the mobs your level, and so on.
Classes follow the same pattern, they were designed realistic and most turned out quite bland. Is ok to dish Aion style and angel wings spam, but that doesn't mean a warrior can't be supercool especially when you're supposed to spend months using it.

Only having one weapon would be a pain, since you have to un-equip it to get repairs thus forcing you to change jobs and fucking up your skills. having 2 + weapons eases that at least.
Fuck this game in its ass... its poor features are used to defend even worse ones.
I honestly believe that the design philosophy was "Hinder the player at every turn."
The only thing even remotely convenient at launch was teleporting and even that had to be used sparingly. Everything else, from leve limits to surplus to heavily level locked content to glass weapons, all of it was designed in such a way as if it were intentionally trying to piss the players off.
I remember in an interview at or shortly after launch I think the director was asked why there weren't chocobos or airships in the game. The response was something along the lines of "Because we don't want players to rush through all the content right away lol." But no, it was because there was no content.
I firmly believe that all we've seen so far is all that they had, as far as the old team is concerned. They had the models for the NM's so when they realized people had hit 50 and needed something they slapped a quick AI routine on it and threw it out. They had models for the Christmas and maybe new year even items done, and the few new pieces we've gotten and that's it. I really believe they hadn't started on ANYTHING else content wise and they were already spent. What we did get, when we got it, were mainly background changes and stuff that, honestly, shouldn't have taken as long as it did. I think that is why in the update outline they had laid out that the "First new year update" was so ambiguous. I believe they thought that once they got what little they got out and fixed that people would be content enough with that to give them a lot of time to actually come up with shit. That is why I believe we haven't heard much of anything out of our new team, because they WEREN'T left with a lot to finish and put out. Probably handed the world and a handful of poorly planned and maybe just started ideas and said "Have at it!"
Eorzea, a world full of dreams and ideas and very little else.
It's pretty wild to think that it's coming up on a year soon since the alpha launch. Here's to hoping the new team brings the game into 2011 but I'm doubtful. I'm not sure if they aren't so far down that it won't even matter at this point.
Ya... beyond frustrated with this game and too be honest, the severe lack of communication as of late is really bothersome. I hate to make comparisons to other games, but for example, CCP and EVE online, they literally post "Development-blogs" every week, detailing fixes, issues with lag, and upcoming additions to the game. While most of the time they aren't extremely useful, just reading these blogs makes me feel as if the development team is at least alive.
