That would give me an erection, sadly. This is what it's come to. I would pay $20 a month just to see Wada flog himself for 10 minutes every first Monday. I don't even need the game anymore.

It seems you can get about 200k SP a week just doing leves and the behests that come along as you're doing them. That's not a bad way of progressing to be honest. It beats XI's system of grinding crabs and crawlers for 75 levels.

Perhaps if SE just improved the leve system we wouldn't have to bitch about grinding giving bad SP because no one would choose to grind. Even if grind mobs gave good SP I still don't want to have to spend all day every day grinding the same mob. That's an outdated system.

Indeed I think that's part of the problem and it's not helped by the low playerbase. Leves seem to be LS events rather than done with randoms. But can you trust a random to actually have leves and link theirs when required and not leach? The game should let you see who has which leves at each camp, then it would encourage people to group up for those leves.

if the same LFP system is to be implemented, leeches would leaves bad name and never be invited again just like how it was in FFXI.

AFK, cooking egg in toaster, I'll let you know how it works out.

Edit: Doh, it didn't work, guess I'll try a frying pan now. Some ideas are clearly bad and don't require testing unless you are some kind of out of touch mutant.

What bothers me the most about this, is that you would think that even alpha testers would have complained about this, right? And early beta testers, and late beta testers, and media reviewers. But they didn't realize it was a shoddy system until AFTER release? So either the only people testing the game were Core-level fanboys, or SE just really didn't care until the launch was so disastrous.

I'm assuming the latter... but why ignore what your potential playerbase is asking for? It just doesn't make sense.

Wrapping up my first night playing XIV since beta ended...Bluefog Induction is possibly the single most bullshit thing I've ever encountered in any videogame. Ever.

This is one thing I never understood. I've got local leves for Bluefog between the 10-20 range but that's a suicide walk.

I was excited to find a second level 1 goldsmithing leve too, but I had thought that it was where Horizon was when I signed up for it, hiked my ass out there before I realized, looked at map and was like okay, a bit far, but doable...got killed about 6 times walking out there, never hit for less than 2k. Finally get out there and got 3 bronze ingots and 191 gil for the trouble, lol. At least the goats/cocks didn't aggro, that would have just been impossible.

I think their intention was to have you rely on battle players to get you to these dangerous areas at low rank, but like everything else in this game it didn't work as intended. But even as a rank 48 goldsmith it's almost a suicide walk. I normally teleport there and run to Ul'dah and use my Quickstride on archer to get past most of the diremites.

There was news today in the form of an interview. It looks like the interface will be the first thing fixed, then the battle system. We can also expect major changes to ranks.

"Yoshida: The auction house is a system that was implemented in Final Fantasy XI. This is something I haven't revealed before, but I believe we focused too much on FFXIV being different from FFXI. As a key to having a vibrant economy, there should exist a system for players that is easy to use. If that means an auction house, then shouldn't we work aggressively to implement it? Making everything original isn't necessarily correct, I think."

Guy seems to have his head on straight. I like it.

I didn't understand what he meant regarding ranks. It seemed really vague to me. They need to stop saying stuff like "major changes to the way ________ is" and then not elaborate at all. He might as well just yell "poopoo!" and run away rubbing his nipples.

If the concept he has in mind doesn't work he has hyped us for nothing. I'd say it was more like an example of a situation where a wipe could happen though, not something they'll necessarily do.

Oh I complained, haha, but SE doesn't listen to complaints about shoddy barn materials until after the barn has already been reduced to cinders.

They ignore because they've never had to listen to anyone. Japan is the land of quiet complaints; you complain through your internet anon account. You don't complain face-to-face, in public, at work, or anywhere else. You sit and take it, and that's what SE is used to. "If people have grievances with our product, it will reflect in sales, and that's that."

Fortunately, or unfortunately, it never really showed up in sales, as the world largely flocks to FF games. Not this time, however, so now they're trying to understand how the rest of the MMO business world handles dealing with active (loud) customers. They're paying for it, and they'll keep paying for it as long as they think that a worldwide launch carries the same weight as a JP-onry launch, where they can temper the complaints down. XI was completely different since the world received it in staggered amounts, plus the game was largely modeled after EQ, which made it familiar territory. It was a pretty safe bet during 2001-2004.

XIV is a different beast altogether. Its modeled after nothing in particular, was made to be as different as possible from everything, despite them saying that they took quips from other popular games, and essentially only took advice from players about modifying the battle system to allow for more attacks in a shorter time, in an attempt at some illusion of frenetic combat.

Its a completely different beast and probably their first true failure in a long, long time. I'm still surprised that we haven't heard about a massive amount of subs coming from China, since they did so much work on this game to appease the Chinese.

Did they actually do things to appease the Chinese or was that just a dig at the server check for every action thing?

The fatigue system was pretty much made for the Chinese.
