BRs would be a pain to do frequently without voice chat. But I agree it shouldn't be like that because the game wasn't designed with voice chat in mind. Most PS3 players won't have it.
I'm not sure I want skill chains back, there's no need to make the game exactly like XI. Skill chains don't work well in large parties (alliances in XI), with a good group you can easily stack a BR with 8+ people.
No, I didn't say they were hard, I simply stated they are easier to coordinate over voice chat. Like everything else in the game and any mmorpg in general. Tired of arguing this point.
The BRs are actually pretty cool. It sucks there are only 4 effects though. If they plan to keep these around, they may want to either include different tiers of the four types, expand types based on ws properties, or something along those lines.
That wasn't a stab at you for using voice chat. Stop herp derpin.
The idea behind BRs is cool, the implementation sucks balls. I don't want SC (this isn't XI), I said something like that. You know, something where ppl have to at least have some kind of timing and coordination instead of this generic easy button crap.
My apologies. Difficult to gauge the tone of your post. Lotsa voip haters here (good 'ol FFXI community!)
The biggest complaint I have against BRs is that for the most part Ruin and Constraint are top tier and the others aren't really used that much. Your mages, especially when low-manning, are locked into the healing role almost entirely. Magic damage can be very good, but conserving MP is generally a safer bet. This is why I'd like to see more variety in their execution. It's just Ruin > Constraint > Incap part, rinse and repeat an entire fight. There is no alternate way to get the result you want, unlike SC where if you wanted to burst Thunder, you could do several different skillchains to make that happen.
Generally i like to see linkshells use VOIP, but seriously the whole vent mandatory thing is a bit retarded.
basically my current ls's vent every day:
i sit in the gathering channel alone for a few hrs, people come into to the channel ask me what I'm doing. i respond fishing....
they make idle conversation and ask questions i have told them the answer to 6 times already.
more people come down, start talking, then decide to do lev quests together. don't leave the channel, i get pissed and move to an empty channel.
people come into to the channel ask me what I'm doing. i respond fishing....
they make idle conversation..
more people come down, start talking, then decide to do exp together. don't leave the channel, i get pissed and move to another empty channel.
people come into to the channel ask me what I'm doing. i respond fishing....
they make idle conversation..
more people come down, start talking about stupid shit i could care less about, i give up because i am beaten and stay in the channel with my volume turned way down.
tl;dr vent mandatory is a joke in 14.
only thing really vent is needed for ffxiv is.. like maybe BR (chat scrolls like crazy) on NM, other then that nothings hard enough to require vent unless you want to talk about pussy/penis/grandma/the neighbors dog during a NM fight since you can do the fight with your eyes closed pressing a few buttons.
Maybe when they add stuff harder it will "actually" require it but as it is now.. not really. All it is is for entertainment while hitting a 10,000HP mob for 20min (or whatever hp it is)
Sounds like your guilds are doing it wrong. Firstly, what is being described is bad VOIP etiquette because your members must be 15 years old or new to voice chat. People who have been doing it for years don't just steal your channel and start organizing shit. Maybe your admin needs to make party channels and tell people to use 'em lol
Also yea @mandatory voice chat all the time. Should only be used for official raids and events. No other reason to have members be on voice chat than that. Most my guild hangs out in chat anyway just to have people to talk to. We generally have 10+ online too. But when people group up or part of the group goes to do NMs, we move channels cuz that's the way you do it...
I suppose i was venting a little. i have nothing against general conversation, but 24/7 mandatory is a bit extreme for me. hell I'm a talkative person, spent a good deal of my time on ffxi chatting on someones vent server.
As for the channels, we have 4 permanent ones for levs as well as permission to make temp channels, do they use them.... fuck no.
idk its a little frustrating having to time a conversation with someone else in the channel because 2-3 asshats don't have the curtsy to click their mouse twice.
I'm done ranting about this, hell if there was any content worth doing in this game I'm sure i wouldn't give this much of a shit about vent etiquette... well enough to post twice about it.
ps: the LS has a 18+ age requirement, most are around 23-30.
I hate the mandatory vent thing that's crept up. I'm really not a fan of it in general, and don't even see how it's needed for BR's (the way I'm currently using them, at least... maybe if they add more complexity to BR's it'd be useful but now basically I'm just doing normal>normal>normal>normal>WS to close and get two effects on at once, or simply WS>WS>WS>WS. And it's not hard to figure out which chain is being used if you have someone who starts it (is it being started with a normal attack? .... follow up with a normal attack unless you're the guy who ends it. WS? Follow w/ that. Don't see how vent is needed at all). I don't think the people on vent are rude or anything either (at least, they never have been when I was around). I just ... don't like it. I enjoy making up voices for the charachters. It sounds stupid, I know, but hey. I have little mental images of how my taru/lalafell sound, and enjoy keeping it that way.
Not hating on anyone for liking vent by the way. If you enjoy it or find it useful, that's great. Just hating on everyone making people like me use it when we don't enjoy it at all (or find it particularly useful).
I found an LS where I just have to plug in for nm's though... and don't need a mic as long as I have it turned on and am listening.... so it's a decent enough compromise I suppose. If I felt more strongly I'd just have to make my own ls I guess, but that would take more hassle than I want to deal with. Some stuff just changes, and if I don't feel like changing with it I guess that's my own problem and shouldn't be anyone elses.
Well SE really didn't do the game a favor with a manual attack system since you can't communicate and fight efficiently
That's true. There are reasonable arguments you can make in favor of TS, especially with a game that makes you keep tapping your keys. I'm still not sold though.
I just thought up a nice idea for loot. Why not allow you to mark items as shit (or whatever SE wants to call it) and all future drops of that shit will automatically be discarded.
Meh, temp channels are bogus. Need something concrete.
Yeah this is a huge issue with the game. It's as if they created it without text chatting in mind! This is precisely where TS shines a little bit more than usual. But it is as you say, just gotta change with the times. Most other games run at 10x the pace this game does, but voip is still useful here. It also helps create friendships between guildmates. It doesn't have to be all business with your linkshell, especially at end game. The more friendly conversation you can generate on the fly, the better your group works in the longrun. I was like you once, and did not really care for/see the value in voice chat for MMOs, but after I left FFXI, I saw what it was all about. The FF community has put down voice chat for so long, and I don't think it has anything to do with seeing or not seeing a use/value for/in it, it's because it's was a god damn console game and anything that everyone could not access was just put aside as trash. Hate the community for festering this idea, and I complain about it all the time because it's just plain ignorance for the most part.
Wait... the FF community's been putting down voice chat? I spent so much time on vent with various different linkshells on many servers while I played XI. (often not even my own LS, but my LS had vent too and I'd hop on there... still do, more often than I even play the game too lol)
Never really seemed like people were against it, there's always the whiny minority in any game community so I don't really think anyone ought to pay them any mind. Experience tells me that most people are not against voice chat at all but just stupid-ass-shit like mandatory voice chatting at all times.
Shouldn't ever be forced on you, part of what makes it cool is talking to people all laid back and stuff... being forced to be on you're not going to feel comfortable (well, most won't) and that kind of defeats part of the purpose. I'd say you might as well jump ship on any group in ANY game that forces that kind of crap.
Man there's some retards on my server, even worse when they join an LS you're in. Some douchebag undercutting everyone in the goldsmithing market just so his shit will sell first. You park next to them and undercut them to prove a point and it just results in the price of that item spiralling down to nothing.
There was a blacksmith on the server doing the same a couple of months ago. Newly discovered recipes were going for 1/4 of what they were on other servers as a result.
This new market search feature is going to give these people an even easier time. I'd rather see a price history of the last 20 items sold in the wards than a greedy fuckwit's favourite tool. I'm glad I've made tens of millions before the nubs caught up with crafting. They'll end up spending more getting to 50 than they'll make killing the market for anything that's not a +2/3.
It sucks but meh, what can you do? I just wish I had better luck selling stuff, I usually give my retainers a week to sell before I just NPC it, however aside from old weapons/armor I haven't had a lot sell. I was hoping the arrowwood shafts I made would sell great but nope...
Listing actual prices is a bad idea. I was fine with the current search feature. It does what it needs to. Now yea there's gonna be mad price gouging since you can see the 20 cheapest prices people have listed in all wards. This is gonna suck.
At the end of the day it's what a lot of people wanted and SE listened. If they didn't do it they'd be bitching about SE not listening. It's a case where SE can't please everyone and should have done what they felt was best. We'll be seeing more changes which aren't in the game's best interests that SE feel forced to do because the rank 10s at Zam think they're good.
I doubt SE wanted to add prices or it would have been there months ago. Hopefully when they add an auction house it uses price history like XI rather than current price. The market wards will become places where people sell shit that doesn't shift quickly enough when there's an AH, unless they just scrap the wards completely. What I'd like to see is player names beside retainers so you know who is undercutting shit. It might discourage it somewhat but unlikely because the dude I referred to has his public on YG.
Are you a rank 10 Zam poster?Hopefully when they add an auction house
