SE have pretty much said in the past month that there will be one made.

Edit: "We will also be looking in earnest at the possibility of implementing an auction house, as well as continuing to improve the functionality of the item search feature."

Ok that's not guarantee it's coming, but SE accept players want it. If they weren't going to do it I doubt they'd say the above.

    Because

We'll be seeing more changes which aren't in the game's best interests that SE feel forced to do because the rank 10s at Zam think they're good.

So you prefer the market ward system over an AH? That's a minority opinion even on here but fair enough. Question is why?

After this patch, the item search feature is pretty much one step away from being just as good. Let us buy the items directly from the search screen, that's it. If we're anal about it make the tax universal across all wards to remove the last hassle as well.

I suppose they could do it that way, it would seem a bit odd to keep both systems in place. Or maybe the AH will be Ishgard only. Sure the cities wards wouldn't get used much as a result, but neither would city AHs like in XI. SE is probably keeping Ishgard for the PS3 launch however to give them something new.

It seems people want AH because AH. And people don't want Marketplace because Marketplace. Regardless of what their actual functions are.

I hope SE'll come to their senses, even if the community does not.

Even though I could think of some different and complementing ways to use an AH with the MP in place, it's not worth the dev time honestly. As we know it's not the only problem this game has, and with proper MP changes it ceases to be one altogether..

I just want to be able to search for an item and be able to pick it up without having to zone, track it down and then zone again to pick up the next item etc. before zoning again to get out. Just let you buy the item via search like you said and be done with it. It would probably be fast to add too as the buying code is already written and could be reused. Add some lore to it, like your retainer went and bought it for you to make the system fit.

The search feature already makes the concept of a market seem useless. You don't go to a real life market, ask for a list of prices and sellers and then go pick up what you want. This is like shopping online but deciding to go pick it up in the store instead, but pretend the stores are closed for a week and online is going to be a lot faster. You just wouldn't do it.

Yep and if they want to make the physical MP area more useful in the future they can do it but not this way.

S-E has to let the economy take the hit to make things more user-friendly. Items need to be bind-on-equip to fuel a demand and mats need to be rarer. Not much can be done about undercutting, crafting bots, and RMT in FFXIV. They could add a market ward/bazaar item placement tax to combat undercutting, but that would crush prices that aren't already down to nothing down to nothing. Adding crafting specializations and synths to make rare items with cooldowns is another way to help crafters feel wanted, but in FFXIV that benefits the botters more than anyone else. It's probably better to think of the crafting classes as an unfun minigame and not as real classes.

Don't understand the complaining in here about the prices in the search. Since the poll there's been some harassment about people wanting an AH over other things, ahead of other things, etc. But a few months ago it was a topic a lot of people were pretty up in arms about, albeit one problem amongst many, and the only reason I can imagine it's less of an issue now is because most of those other people have quit and can't be bothered to come in and read the XIV section and post anymore. SE wants them back, along with more people on top of that, and the poll probably more accurately reflected general opinion than current forum posts do. Their opinions aren't invalidated because they weren't willing to put up with how horrible the over all game is right now.

I can understand not wanting it (an AH) ahead of other things, but it's still a good idea to have. Definitely prefer listed prices to a price history, personally, and it'll help prevent a "going price" on anything that isn't listed constantly. Maybe as they're refining the market wards, they'll ultimately yank the code out to form the framework of the AH and revert the actual market wards back to what they were? I don't know exactly how that aspect of the programming works, but it seems like it may be plausible.

Also, Hyan is right enough in that letting you buy things from the search screen once they add prices to it, and possibly evening out the taxes again, would be close enough to an AH. They could always add refining search features to that, etc. The only problem with not adding a separate AH is that it would continue requiring the retainers to function, rather than letting the retainer system supplement the AH, so that we can use them instead of setting up a new Rolanberry Market. A market system does have a place, just not as the central hub of the economy.

AH will be for bidding, and the bazaar will be the "buy it now" alternative. It's probably what will happen if they implement it

Either way, the current system is such an hassle. I'm avoiding it like plague just because i get frustrated everytime I try selling/buying something.

The way I see the economy heading is +1 gear is becoming standard while NQs hit rock bottom prices as people rush to unload them. I saw a guy shouting to sell NQ Banneret lance for 100k earlier. No sane person is going to go into the effort to craft that for 100k, it's essentially trash. People are spamming it to make HQs, just like every other high rank weapon. End result is HQ1s are common and become affordable while HQ2 and 3s are what separates player A from B. People will pay anything for HQ2 and HQ3s as proven by the rings I sell of that quality at 20-40 times the price of the NQ. They give what, 1 more DEF than NQ?

It's not good for new crafters. The HQ market is a high 40s/50 market only, that rank 40 may be able to make Banneret lances for example but he won't be HQing any so he makes no worthwhile cash. By the time they enter the HQ market everyone retarded enough to pay 750k for a sunstone ring +3 for example will have bought it. So they wait for SE to add new recipes and then we have two dozen people spamming synths of it on the same day of the patch hoping to get the first few sales for high profit.

Totally agree that mats need to be rarer, or at least one main ingredient in each high rank recipe. Not rare as in you need a full party of 50s to take down an NM that only pops when lalafells are dancing naked in the THM guild and it's raining frogs, but rare as in a solo player could get it through time/effort. Quested perhaps because farming mobs for anything is boring, nevermind rare drops. Make use of the crafting guilds, have that NPC behind the desk give you quests or some shit.

Now I wouldn't ever support bind on equip. Would I buy that expensive HQ2 rank 28 weapon that is only useful until rank 36 if I couldn't sell it back when I want a higher rank weapon? Hell no, I don't want to be stuck with an expensive inventory filler that is only good for selling to an NPC. BoE would just kill the market on anything that's not around rank 50 and encourage even more people to use rank 50 weapons on their rank 1.

Not really arguing for or against BoE, since I'm not exactly sure how it would effect this game and it's (current) emphasis on crafting without actually seeing it thrown in there, but to address this part of what you said specifically ~ As long as those BoE items could at least be stored on a retainer/in a future mog house, I don't see why it would be an issue. People wouldn't be especially crazy about items they couldn't resell, but it would prevent reselling, and everyone would become accustomed to it soon enough, I think. Also:

I took that to mean gear you couldn't equip at all until a specific rank requirement was met. Meaning that, to a greater or lesser degree, gear would start being added to the game that you couldn't equip without having a specific class at X rank before equipping it. That (especially if more and more newer gear had real rank requirements, and the current lack of restrictions became more for vanity and specialty gear), and possibly reducing the effect of weapons below their optimal rank even further, could easily prevent people from buying higher level gear early rather than gear as they go.

I can see how BoE could be beneficial, especially with the crafting emphasis, even if people from XI aren't used to not being able to resell most of their gear. Throw some limitations in there on crafting lower level gear (maybe make it so that after you reach a certain rank over a gear recipe, it becomes BoP instead of BoE, so that only crafters within a certain range of the actual item's rank can make it to sell).

And I could think of a few ways to combat the issue of HQ spamming and NQs becoming worthless too, but honestly, as long as HQs exist they'll always be preferred. If they want to fix the issue, there are ways they probably can, it's just a matter of whether or not they actually do.

This is another reason why I'd wish they'd consider a wipe since the economy is getting close to a bad point. I forgot who on BG said it, but good luck trying to save the economy from 1-50.

However, I'd love to see a seal system in the game. This would be nice to keep items from being distributed back into the economy and would hopefully lesson undercutting to some extent.

The game needs some gil sinks and fast. I already know a guy who has 100mil, which is ridiculous in the first 4 months of the game. Every 50 crafter has some ridiculous amount between 30-100mil while everyone else is averaging about 5-10mil. Playing with bigger numbers would be fine if gear sold for bigger numbers, but people still undercut gear down to rock bottom prices regardless of how much gil is available. If gil is 10 times easier to get than it was in FFXI then why is gear not selling for 10 times as much? It's selling for less from what I remember. SE failed somewhere and I blame the flood of crafting mats. The only things worth anything apart from HQs is NM and faction NM drops and very few people are willing to buy those.

I don't like the current system of being able to equip gear before your rank because it makes people want NM gear before they even hit 40. I'd like to see all loot that is designed to be rare made class and rank specific because eventually it's going to piss people off. That or just make it give 0 stats on the wrong class/rank so people can still equip it for looks.

Good point. Problem is the longer you leave it the harder it will be to fix. How long did the massive amounts of gil in XI after hyper inflation take to fix? That was mostly fixed due to banning gil sellers too, most of the gil in this game is in the hands of legit crafters.

Anyway SE has exceeded my expectations this time. They said early February for the next patch, but I really wasn't expecting it to come on the 2nd. I thought we'd wait another week. I am hopeful this will solve the inventory issue but equipment is still taking up close to 70 slots on my character. I still think a separate tab for equipment with a cap of 100 is needed, not just for more character space but to make it all cleaner. The cap has to be there (unlike with crystals) so that I can't store 10000 half masks while skilling CRP.

Well like I mentioned earlier in this thread or another, bot crafters comprise of most likely now 50% of the crafter population possibly more, as SE hasn't readily taken action, only a warning. Considering the games state, most probably don't care if they get caught. SE may not even be able to effectively detect the method being used to block/detect the current major player crafting bot thats widely used (seen it posted on JP boards with Jp instructions even and how to use it).

Considering bot crafters just spam 1 thing constantly, they won't really ever see hq, but to make up gil for the massive loss of spamming 1 thing for 8-10 hours tossing the extras for hours (and probably breaking tons with unstable element) they just flood the market with as much possible junk they can.for as little as possible jsut to move it along and recover what little they can as fast as they bot craft.

My server economy has basically collapsed, that bannert? lance on my servers down to 35-45K

only thing over 50K is +1~3 items , NM items and bows (crabshell bow used to be 1mil+ its down to about 120-150K now)
In a way this helps new players that just started because they have no gil... but they sure as hell aren't making any. I mean why would you buy 25-30K cotton robes, when you can get a velvet robe for 10-15K?
