People on Core are arguing about (against) the toggle headgear visibility option. People on ZAM are arguing about (against) Quests having SP/XP rewards.

Ugh.
Which content should come first and what shape it should come in is all theory and wishful thinking at this point.
Quests and mini-quests will come before anything probably, and then probably the hamlet defense in the form of basic scalable content with whatever balance Yoshida thinks appropriate. Judging by the increased SP rate it will probably be more open, not as restricting as we're used to stuff being in the past. Regardless I'd expect a lot more adjustments and a focus on the quests and additional leves out of the "content" side of the monthly patches at first. Granted, this is conjecture, and there could be massive content awaiting us in 9~ days or so. We'll see what happens.
Ultimately, I've come to the understanding that no matter what else they do, at some point before they manage to get an influx of people, from the PS3 release or whatever, they should merge the current populations to fill out however many servers it can support, whether it's only 2 or 4 or whatever. Then devote all the other servers (and possibly even more depending upon the success of the marketing/changes at PS3 release. That will give all the new damn players fresh servers and fresh starts clean from the bias and economic heavy handedness superiority complexes that would result otherwise.
Let the current players all experience the game together, it was a choice to play through the hard times, let all of you experience the improvements as a group as well and let the people returning or starting anew have a fresh start with the game at the point that it will be ready. Meanwhile, it would also make adding, testing and balancing any new content easier and more effective considering they'd actually have full servers to do it with, rather than having to estimate at how it will balance later.
They're all stupid then, for both arguments. First is an option, a choice, that is superficial and vain only, fuck people who don't want to let other people have the choice. Second may be more controversial but it's still reaching a point where it's standard and people should just stfu about it, there's nothing wrong with not having to fucking grind out on mobs (because leves alone don't cut it) to level/rank up.
I just want to see something content wise. Something besides NM's for max rankers. Preferably with engaging storylines as that's what really drew me in on FFXI. That's what I want to see in the upcoming quests that we're getting. Not the WoW-style where I don't bother to even read why I'm doing something because it doesn't matter. While one of the major arguments against quests in XI were the lack of XP rewards if the quests we are getting have those same kinds of engaging stories I won't be too bothered if there isn't an SP/XP reward. That said there's no reason there shouldn't be one. At least work it into the quest itself possibly.
I want more things that make the world feel alive and that my character is a part of it. I hear a lot about raising level caps and adding new areas but I believe they need to worry more about filling out the levels and ESPECIALLY the areas we already have before they even think about adding on top of it.
I had the same line of thinking...except now I'm debating going back to try out Abyssea for a bit, or at the very least, get PLD up to the cap and get through CoP story finally, as well as WotG. I'm still looking forward to hamlet defense and whatever the fuck companies end up being, though.
And is it just me, or does Rifts just look like yet another WoW clone (like Aion felt to me too).
I get what you mean. And I agree with you. But the other forum bashing is pretty baseless at this point. BG had a great ffxi forum, but practically al that's going on BG for ff14 is this thread, which isn't exactly a depository of wisdom or insight. I started up an account on zam and they actually have people posing questions about the game on the class forums. Etc. Maybe not the best forum or crowd but hey... Hope our forums here pick up when/if/as the game gets going, but who knows.People on Core are arguing about (against) the toggle headgear visibility option. People on ZAM are arguing about (against) Quests having SP/XP rewards.

Ugh.
Everything is a fucking clone of something. Fuck i hate this stupid "clone" word more than i hate SE for turning XIV into the worst MMO ever.
I take that back. Had XIV cloned anything successful from other MMO's, we probably wouldn't be where we are.
There's a separate thread on this forum for debating and discussing Rift though so i'll leave it at that.
Yeah, not modding, but lets keep this about XIV. There's more than enough to talk about with what's gone on in the last few weeks.
I agree with Q about the story lines. XI had one of my favorites stories ever. That said, I dont think XIVs story line is bad, actually I did all the missions up to lvl 46 and I'm very interested in where this is going. The difference is that the missions are not as engaging as they were in XI. I enjoyed getting together with friends, making the journey, and fighting together to beat the BCs. The difficulty of many missions back in the day made us feel like we accomplished something where in XIV I haven't found a challenge yet.
Personally one of the things that keeps me still interested in this game is the hope that SE will bring this world to life and fill it with stories that can be as engaging as the ones in XI. Rift is nice but to be honest I have no idea whats going on in there as far as the story lines go. I have not bothered to read any story line related material and not planning to.
There is plenty to talk about in this game but no one gives a shit. Basic shit like "how long does Bind last?" isn't even on the minds of people here because there is a flame thread. If it were up to me, I'd remove the damn thing because all it does is encourage people to flame the game in the first place. There's already a random complaint thread. This section is already shit-up pretty bad due to poor thread title choices.
We need to move past it. Every argument against the game has either already been heard or is a rehash of another argument that we've also already heard from a different angle.
You accuse me of using my own vision of the game in my comments, but look at what you do. What you consider "necessary" is your own vague definition of team-based content that you never detailed.
Again, what FFXIV could do that wasn't done somewhere else? The hypothetical scenario you're talking about is retarded if you can't even name me a single example, and explain how it would make it a better game. Hell, I'm not even sure you know the difference between community and gameplay.
Secondly, fast reaction times is the only one that will ever challenge you in this kind of game. Every gameplay scenario can be limited to a few simple gambits that anyone with half a brain could master. Once people figure them out, everything will become a farce.
I feel they need to work on implementing stuff that is scene elsewhere first, but with a FF-spin on it, then work on original stuff. I am dying for new content and tbh I haven't even really experienced the fullest of the current end game. But whay is gonna be challenging about it anyway? Lowman crap? Nigga please! SOP.
I don't know, I remember several extremely challenging encounters in FFXI that weren't completely dependent on fast reaction times. CoP 6-4, the Ultima/Omega mission, immediately comes to mind. Divine Might, like Lucavi has also mentioned in the past. Those are a couple examples of BCNMs, and then you have stuff like Kirin and the Jailers, that while some pearls mastered them and they became routine and easily done, there were always new upcoming linkshells for many years there were still challenged before they too reached that point.
Now, I'm not going to argue which is the better content (since it's subjective and largely depends on a lot of other factors, like what kind of combat system there is, how items work, what the UI is like, etc.), but I just figured I'd point out that knee-jerk reaction times definitely aren't required.
I'm pretty eager to see Yoshida's next Letter and Poll, considering it's going to be directly related and concerning the changes to the battle system.
I don't go around saying my vision is the only vision and everything else is shit (objectively speaking). More often than not all I do is defend my vision from people like you who consider it shit in comparison to your own vision. That's the difference. You accuse me of using my own vision of the game in my comments, but look at what you do. What you consider "necessary" is your own vague definition of team-based content that you never detailed.
The third paragraph being the perfect example of what I'm saying. If it was anyone but you I would make a lengthy post about what I mean, but you are not worth it. All we'll get is arrogant meaningless bullshit that puts my worst posts to shame.
Maybe you guys should allot eachother three timeouts per week that you can use on eachother. Each timeout used means the other can't reply to a post made by the issuer for 6 hours. Fair? Yep.
i prefer the 24 hour timeouts that were favorably administered when they forget to be in the correct thread
me too
Probably a combination of not expecting people to hit Ranks 40 and 50 in large numbers until March using the original SP system and dropping everything on their to-do list in a scramble to fix the game. For example, see: St. Valentione's Day event.I do believe SE was extremely lazy with high end content however, moreso than with low rank content. I mean there is no reason for not having rank 50 leves or behests. The 50 camps already exist. There is apparently rank 40 and 50 class quests that were never implemented too. It's like they designed the game and then content was an after thought. Perhaps they didn't expect people to reach 40 so fast or the launch was supposed to go smoother and all this was to be implemented in a patch a few months after release? Who knows.
