Its simple really.
Other successful MMO's: We're going to allow a player to go from point A to point B at a fairly good pace. We're going to make leveling somewhat fast paced so players can start the real challenge of jumping into the endgame. This is a game that is focused on challenging gameplay elements.
SE: We're going to allow players to go from point A to point B with gimmicks and mini games while focused on a slow pace. The whole game is about getting to the level cap! A game that is focused on grinding, challenging for the wrong reasons.
Be honest, would anyone give a shit if you could hit 50 in a week on FFXIV but had some brutal endgame dungeons to get through that required perfect execution to beat? and only a handful of guilds could do it? I much rather a game that doesn't put so much emphasis on leveling but rather having the game just start at the level cap. Sure you might cap levels easy but that doesn't mean you're going to faceroll harder level content.
There is already so many idiots currently playing this game just do a behest and see what i'm talking about. I wonder if this game can ever be challenging for the right reasons.
I agree in a way, but since the current gameplay is shit and doesn't really require any high level of skill or twitch reactions, shitty ui is not as big a deal is it? If they make the combat gameplay interesting and actually fast paced then maybe keyboard turners will have a hard time, until then the controls/ui can be clunky as shit really, like everything else in the game.
Basically, I think the worst thing to happen to 14 is all the people who ONLY ever played 11 wanting it to be like 11, not realizing its not the gameplay of 11 they want, just the multitude of content after being out for 9 years. I play 11 now and I enjoy it but going through the shitty menus to do anything and the controls are shit to me after playing better ui/controls in other games.
Also, I see they are apparently going to announce a 3rd MMO title this year? WTF is SE thinking?
I had hoped 14 would mix the best of both worlds. In a game where you level multiple jobs, the leveling process needs to be interesting enough to be enjoyable, but not so complex its annoying. I don't think that it should be mind numbingly slow to level, but it should be slow enough that gear around level 30ish starts to actually matter to you. People should be encouraged to do content that exists at level 30 so they can have better gear, because the gear will make a difference to whatever job they are playing. A game where its too fast leveling makes lower level content pointless, effectively making leveling 100% about grinding to max level. If the game is all about getting max level asap and then doing endgame, then should just get rid of levels and make it based on some other system, which I wouldn't have confidence in SE doing well.
I agree. I hoped FF14 would be a mixture of WoW and FFXI. I would love to see leveling at a decent pace but also enjoyable. I'd love to see grouping matter and I'd love side quests for unique gear here and there as you level. Something storyline based similar to rank missions in FFXI but with some decent gear options like WoW. I'd also like to see some dungeons (open world and non-instanced with some NMs roaming starting in the mid to late 20s or early 30s) where you can get gear and make good exp. I also hoped that crafting would be enjoyable and it would benefit your character (similar to WoWs with some FFXI flavor) and not such a mini game. I was also looking forward to open world HNMs roaming around and causing some chaos/panic in said zones. I think that's what I miss the most about MMOs today. I miss the element of surprise, seeing new zones and new mob types. While the WoW dungeons/raids can be really tough, there is no real element of surprise anymore. All of the fights are % based and phase based and it gets repetitive after a while. I would have liked to see FF14 be like FFXI with some advances in graphics/UI/controls/macros/chat winodws/dynamics/immersion/instances/possible group style pvp?. Those are the things that I feel would make the game very interesting.
That's too bad Meko, because everyone else apparently wants FFXI-2, and sadly we just might get it.
I picked the "game" back up like a week ago. A lot of the same stuff people are complaining about now they were complaining back in october or whatever which makes me think why are people still here and still playing? There are still no chocobos? I thought that was promised like around december or something. *STILL* messing with targeting 8 months later? c'mon SE.
Well the only complaint I have is that I spent the 80 bucks back in September and the first month's crysta purchase. I think that rage has pretty much settled now and I'm just treating it like a beta. Free to play and sometimes I have time to kill so might as well leave it installed.
They never promised chocobos "soon." They promised chocobos and airships "years down the road." We're not even a year in! Don't worry. They're going to be announcing another MMO that will bridge the gap in years til you get your chocobo.
I'll check back in FFXIX to see if they finally got around to it.
They should just implement an Aht Urgan type thing where for 5-10k you can port from the crystal in any city to any camp in that region. Would help with anima conservation AND keep airships relevant down the road for quick(er) transportation from city to city.
Just recently noticed this happens with everything on lala, cant unsee.

You pointing out that the weapon changes in size when engaged? Because that happens in every other game including FFXI.
Yeah how could I be so stupid. Clearly all MMOs have weapons increase to nearly 150% of the original size when unsheathed. I mean, duh.
More like 50%, but OK. I'm glad you were intelligent enough to spot this in 2011.
Moving on.
Still proud of you.
FFFF-! Goddamn hate how random the crafting is. Currently trying to get my TAN up, doing leather vamps at rank 23. With Iron Round Head Knife (R22 tool) and cotton with some canvas, I'm still failing left and right. Pissing me off to no end.
I take it you don't have cobbling?
Wait, wtf. Hi Bear!
Hi man! Yeah, no cobbling, been working on getting Tanning instead, cobbling's next on the list. Still won't stop me from being pissed off at double elemental unstables and breaking at 80% when I had 50+ DUR remaining due to a streak of bad luck.
