Well, there is a confirmation box for converting items into materia for that reason... but they really should default the response on "No" instead of "Yes" for those who are using the keyboard for UI navigation/confirmation.

Yeah, don't want to accidentally waste a whopping 5,000 gil going to the wrong city via airship... but trashing potentially millions of gil from pressing enter twice? Pah!
The best part? I don't think you waste the gil if you leave without taking the airship. I might've misread, but don't you keep the ticket until you board?
Kinda'... When you hit repair, you first get down on one knee, then choose "Main Hand" from the crafting box in the top left, assuming you have Dark Matter.
Materia converting just pops up a "yes/no" confirmation in the center, warning you that you'll lose your highlighted equipment in the process... but it defaults on "yes," which is indeed retarded for something so permanent and potentially very costly. As opposed to plenty of other "yes/no" confirmations in the game that default on "no" regarding completely trivial decisions.
I'm sure they could improve the system, either allow you to lock gear from being materiaed or making the interface for converting more obvious and not sticking the Materia option right next to Repair. It feels like the game is trying to catch you out sometimes. It's like when "destroy retainer and everything on it" used to be right under "dismiss retainer".
Is it just me, Or is it kinda hard finding info about upcoming patches, Feels like i've been reading in 4 different places about upcoming patch. Cant they just have a site dedicated to the next patch where all info is collected, It's sure nice to have all these letter from the producer etc and live chats but its a pain to locate all info, (Atleast when you just get back to the game and trying to catch up on everything)
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/140
coming patch details doesn't comes until at least 3 days before patch day.
And when/How do we know when the next patch is about to come? Is this announced in the different letters from the producer? Or is it just something you have to guess yourself judging by the different things they randomly say in intervjues?
Man it really sucks that they're going to start charging before the game is even finished. I was going to come back and try it again after 5 months+ on the sidelines but there's no way I would ever pay a subscription fee (would buy extra stuff eventually if F2P.) *Beats the dead horse.*
I see they haven't banned any botters either as all my guildmates still leave them up 10 hours a night. Quite a shame...
MMOs are never finished. And if you associate yourself with botters then you're no better than them.
Getting frustrated at the severe lack of 40-45 parties on my server, really hard to power level post 40 unless your mule is a MRD. I might see 2 40-45 parties per day while in Ul'dah and most of them only need thm/con's.
I guess it comes down to whether you think the content over the next year is worth paying for. There's enough coming up to make it worth it for me. A couple of primals, a new raid, Garlean battles, the umbral story etc. The main changes with 2.0 are the UI and area/graphics changes and neither of which in their current state make the game unplayable.
I really dislike the concept of PLing in this game.
I don't like the fact that when you pick up a full party more often than not there are people with level 50 classes in them (naturally) and then it simply becomes a matter of scratching your back if you scratch mine, instead of volunteering to help due to your incredible altruism or whatever. And when it ends, the sheer EXP/hr ratio really gives a different perspective to when you end up doing something else to level up. When you can level like that, it's like tasting the forbidden fruit. Every other method becomes inferior. If Yoshi's plan is to offer many ways to level up- and then this one way is so grossly superior to everything else- then that's pretty shitty if you ask me.
If this goes on, finding likeminded people to group with without PL becomes increasingly difficult and annoying. If this was about helping friends, then I guess the whole server will be your 'friend'. Somebody remind me why we have levels in this game in the first place?
Whatever other MMO's do to deal with the concept of PL is hardly relevant here, IMO. At least there you would have to plan a bit ahead because you can't just press a button and enable the PL mode and press it again to enable the low level mode. Further traditional grouping is preferred from what I've seen so the opportunities to utilize PL is quite high, and the game encourages leveling multiple classes so of course many people have access to multiple classes.
I'm sure it is great to be able to level all classes to 50 in no time but you'll quickly run out of stuff to do and I don't want that to happen. But I will also play the game by its rules regardless of whether the rules are crap or not. Am I going to disband when someone pulls out his lvl50 CNJ and I'm already at the camp? It is incredibly hard not to bite on that fruit although you know the consequences. Why does the game force me to make that choice?
In a nutshell I don't think you can have exactly the same rules in this game as in any other game. Some aspects yes, some others not really (like the way quest rewards work). Also before someone gets all upset I'm not against leveling fairly fast and I doubt that will change no matter how much I cry about it. I simply do not like one of the current methods of leveling.
I had all dow/m 50 before all these shenanigans and there's still stuff for me to do. Getting full sets of the new gear is a long, albeit simple process, and acquiring all the ifrit weapons is a game of chance in the end. SE knows well enough how to extend the shelf life of their current content by making drop rates fucking terrible.
Leveling isn't content so it doesn't bother me any.
That said neither is repeating the ifrit fight to obtain a shiny ugly glowing bow. Although I consider that statement silly as you seem to have some sort of personal definition for what content even means, but whatever.
