Nice fantasy, but not reality. This is not how MMOs work. People buy the game at launch so they can level their character to max level as soon as possible--nobody likes being left behind. The majority of people will not buy a re-released MMO, even if the game has completely changed. This is fact, and this is exactly why MMOs have failed in the past. If you fail to build a strong player-base at launch, the game will inevitably fail period.
It's not like SE haven't done a lot to close the gap either. I mean you can take a class from 1-50 in a week now, even less before 1.20. It took months at launch, especially for DoH/Ls. Anyone starting now could catch up a reasonable amount within a month.
Yeah, it doesn't seem hard to catch up at all. I started just a little over 2 months ago, and have 4 combat 50's, and 50 armorer and mining. I don't feel like I'm really disadvantaged from those that have been playing for longer, at least not by much.
Leveling isn't too bad, it just sucks people hardly use the search function (Or at least that's how it feels like on Trabia). What sucks even more is when you're in a PT full of idiots. I'm in a PT with a CON in all level 1 gear ATM.
I'll just ask this here, but how do you guys level so fast? I've been soloing since I got back onto the game, but at most I'm able to get is ~2 levels a day (being ~ level 30).
My first job I leveled mostly solo also, and it went at around that same rate. I was using as many leves and doing behest whenever I could to help speed it up. If you use your 8 leves per day with behests thrown in, that should be about a level per day. Groups are a LOT faster, though, if you can find one you should definitely go. People don't group too much until the 30's and 40's, so keep your eyes out for them now.
After leveling my first job, I found a few friends and got a linkshell. We all spent quite a while powerleveling eachother, which is really broken in this game. And that's how I leveled my other 3 jobs. If you are powerleveled, you could get a job from 1-50 in a few days.
Plus it's not like everyone's goal in MMORPGs is to the best (that kind of stuff belongs to serious stuff like Pokemon only). Some prefer to just play for fun or play for the social aspect (MMORPGs are giant chat rooms at times).
Being left behind is only an issue if you can't find others to do low level stuff (like FFXI before they made most things soloable).
Finally in FFXI, JPs had a year head start and were already 75 but that didn't stop others from enjoying the game. Same with PS2 launch (which was around half a year or maybe a year after PC NA launch), and 360.
Stockpile leves to 99, join a Grand Company, spam Company leves, use favor on kill as many as possible in 15min leve, and get mad xp. Alternatively, join XP parties, but I'm antisocial. And playtime is a big factor, I'm on break from school soooo I have loads of time to sit in Nanawa for hoursI think I started doing this at level 28 or something though, and I do it rather infrequently-- it's entirely possible regular leves are better and I'm dumb irl
I've probably partied a total of 3~4 times... and all but one of those times was just finishing off a high-40s class while farming stronghold chests with friends. A vast majority of my levels have come from leves and behests. I was dumb enough to have wasted all my quests before the patch that added ridiculous exp rewards to them.
-Powerleveling will get you 50 in about two days. It's probably possible to do 1-50 in a day, but I've never seen it.
-Group leveling will get you to 50 in about a week, give or take a couple of days. The more you have the better it will go. If you have a group of four you will probably do it in a week and a half or two of casual partying.
-Soloing you seem accustomed with well enough to know how slow it is.
How much slower is PL'ing now? I leveled an alt's marauder up to PL my main for lowbie skills but I haven't really touched it since 1.20. With aoe gone I thought it would be a lot slower now...
It still works, THM is a really good PLer now, just have the person round up some mobs and blast them with AoE fire. At 40, if you can get a few 50 THM friends you can head down to the Wolf camp in Natalan and get them to 50 within a couple of hours no problem.
MRD can still kind of do it, but even with Keen Flurry their good AoE is still on a pretty long cooldown so you'd have to pull slower or fewer mobs.
LS member just got a 72 hour suspension, possibly for using turbo button on controller to craft. Nice, SE, nice.
Where was he doing it, do you know? Was it in ul'dah, or LiLo/Grid's market wards? Just wondering if someone may have reported him, or if SE is actively looking for turbo crafters.
"Possibly" for using turbo-crafting? Either BS and they actually bot (gathering/ability-crafting), or it sounds like someone went out of their way to bitch/moan about it because they were one of those people who do it EVERYWHERE CONSTANTLY like I have seen around. If you're going to do it, at least be a little discreet. I have a little cave I like to retreat into for my turbo-craftan. :3
Sigh... should have leveled thm instead of marauder on my alt. Plenty of time to PL my alt again with my mains thm as soon as I finish gsm and carp I guess. Not much else to do! (lolluminary)
Welp. I don't really see the bitching about turbocrafting. If I'm gonna sit there spamming enter for hours I'd rather be web surfin', cleaning, writing, etc while I have my mindless task automated. Still have to gather up a shitton of mats (costing either time on DoL/battle, or money) to do it for hours on end. Not to mention I'm within eyeshot of the screen around the house anyways.
But that's just me I guess. Turbo in moderation. If it's bannable that'd be pretty dumb but whatever.
e: Though I don't have a problem with gathering. It's kind of fun (except Fishing. Screw fish).
