That is one of the crafts I have yet to get past 19. Iirc, they are doing adjustments for them and culinary in 1.21 so those leve rewards may get adjusted yet.

This game need graveyard like every mmorpg in existence. Getting teleported 20 minutes away without anima after the getting kicked out of the server isn't fun, it's retarded
Dying should just bring you to the nearest discovered camp, and that's it. You already get a durability penalty that is annoying at 50, you don't need more.
No one has posted in here for far too long.
After really spending some time on DoL classes (miner/botany), I really can't understand why they didn't make the achievements: Grade I: gather at 500 locations, Grade II: Gather at 1500 locations, Grade III: Gather at 3000 locations, etc. instead of this crap where you need to spend time gathering all across the world in locations that hold items of very little interest or value.
What's better is when the level cap is lifted (possibly as early as 1.21) after all the effort people put into getting the golden tools and the lvl 55 tools have better stats than the Luminary.
If they upgrade the Luminary tools anytime there is a level cap increase to always be just marginally better than whatever is the highest crafted tools then I think they would very much be worthwhile. Otherwise huge waste of time.
I just wish they'd make the gathering achievements match the crafting ones.
20 + 300 + 1000 + 2000 + 4000 = 7320 -> 50 / 300 / 750 / 1500 / 3000 = 5600
x3 for each region... saves you 5160 gathers.
It's bad enough they make DoL do it 3x because of the different regions, but they also make you do MORE of per region than DoH.
I can see that happening like with the relics/mythics/empyreans in XI. Perhaps the next tier achievement would be the precursor to the upgrade or something.
ah crap didn't even think about the level cap raise with the DOL ones. I'm close to getting the luminary saw but I think I'll stop after that. If they raise the cap on these classes and the luminary crap is worthless I'd rage so hard.
Eh the more I think about it the less I think they'll do a level cap raise on anything except DoW/M. With DoW alone they'd need to readjust ifrit/moogles or it would probably be too easy. They already have SH's to xp off of though so it's entirely possible. Looking at DoL they'd need to add in grade 6 probably and that would mean they need to add in new items to gather. Fisher has some fish in the dats I know of but I don't think min/bot do. DoH seems the least likely as they'd need to add in new recipes and new leves so you could actually level otherwise you'll have people spamming felt/cobalt gear flooding the markets and really screwing up the economy.
Edit: Personally, I think the would be smart to hold off on a level cap raise until 2.0. That way they could really plan out new content and how the old content should be balanced(level capped battles?). Also it would keep the levels of players closer together for relaunch. Seems silly to have this new content coming (garuda, dungeons, etc) that would be level 55(I assume) gear which would totally out date the recent gear (ifrit/moogle) that people have really grinded for cuz of the crap drop rates.
Well I think there are probably plenty of mats in the dats that they have taken out since release from DoL jobs. For example on botany, very early on they removed Spruce Logs & Ebony Logs from the game, then when they did the revamp on recipes they removed some more such as Pine. Miner has had the same thing happen with stuff such as Darksteel & Gold Ores. These are just the tip of the iceberg.
No way they are gonna lvl cap raise till 1st expansion post 2.0 They have way to much on their plate to deal with balancing a lvl cap raise. They would be raising the cap for a few thousand active subs vs the millions they hope to capture at 2.0 Having a full map rebuild, re-doing the server structure, database connections, making a portion of the game client side and adjusting the graphics with the new engine, and producing new content for 2.0 is a lot for a 1 year period. I just hope they can deliver.
Actually Yoshida said it might happen sometime before 2.0 (Not sure where the letter is) though I do agree they have a shitload of things to worry about first before they consider a level cap increase.
Oh didn't know they took pine and all that out of the game. Makes sense though. Still, I can't see them actually increasing the cap though. If they outdate the gear we've had for the past months (mostly ifrit/moogle) I cant' see what remains of the player base being very happy. Personally I'd take a long break if that happened and would wait for yoshida to say something about this WoW type crap they're doing before coming back. I realize you need to add new gear and out-date stuff gradually, but I still miss how stuff in XI was good foreverrrrrr(until the cap was raised). I know we're not switching gear mid-battle in XIV, but if they could make gear last a long while I think it would go a long way for keeping content worth doing and people interested (unlike 1.18 dungeons where no one does that anymore)
I can't speak for Mining, but Botany had the following log types removed early on:
• Spruce
• Teak
• Ebony
Then in 1.17 (I think?) they removed these logs:
• Cedar
• Chestnut
• Lauan
• Pine
• Willow
I don't know why they bothered to keep Yew Logs, since only one new recipe uses it, and nothing new uses Yew Lumber.
That's what concerns me a bit. NM's, Darkhold, all that crap is already outdated.
Just look at weapons: First it was Aeolian Scimitar, Barbarian Bardiche, Champion's Lance
Then 1.18 made it Templar Falchion, other Batraal drops
1.19 Between Ifrit weapons and materia 1.19 shit on everything you got in 1.18.
1.20 Ifrit weapons still the best but Moogle good for soloing
1.21 will probably add AF as gear that should be comparable to materia'd stuff.
1.22 Garuda battle that we know will offer even more weapons as they've showed us the Garuda Bow already.
So many weapons! Is that all Primal fights will ever drop?
But on the other hand I don't really know a better solution. They have to keep giving us content and until they get a good storyline with engaging/challenging group BC's they can only really just offer item rewards for the time being.
I was thinking maybe they could just have Ifrit drop only 2 or 3 weapons, Moogle 2 or 3 more, etc. But if you main THM for example and the best THM weapon isn't coming til 1.22 you won't be that motivated to go out and kill Ifrit/Moogle.
I think right now as they are doing this whole 2.0 overhaul this is what we will be getting. Each patch will just make previous content obsolete.
Another thing to consider re: a potentially soon level cap increase is the effort people have put into double/triple+ melds. Imagine putting the gil/effort into getting multiple meld on your Cobalt gear, Felt gear, etc only to have Darksteel armor or Silk Bliaud or whatever the next tier of lvl 55 gear be the best pieces to meld.
I really think Materia's release was premature and broken. In my opinion, they either need to scale back the stats on materia or floor the multi-meld rate because it's simply making anything that isn't meldable worthless in certain spots. I assume we'll eventually get tier V/VI/VII/etc in materia as well unless they've said it's never going beyond IV, but that doesn't seem like it will make sense once the level cap gets raised.
I understand why they put it outwhen they did, but I think it's obscene to see +80~100 of stats on gear from multi-melds.
My biggest complaint with the system is we can't remove materia from gear on our own. My second biggest complaint is how poorly the percentages scale after the first materia is in.
You and I have talked about this before but aside from forbidden materia stacking being stupid as fuck, not allowing even a single meld on rare/ex items will permanent exclude them from use (Like TacoTaru stated) or make them very boring, and eliminate customization the materia system was supposed to bring. Ifrit's Blade is not a terrible weapon, but it's useless when tanking because of how needed enmity is, and even one Rage IV would allow it to be useful. The same goes for the belt slot, no matter what they do with the Paladin AF belt or any belt in the future if it doesn't have enmity on it it's not even close to being considered for use. However, just putting enmity on everything from now on is boring, eliminates the need for the materia system and converting crafted gear, and hurts dual-role classes like Warrior.
There's a thread or two, both JP and NA, about melding rare/ex items, but the devs haven't made any comments about it. They have confirmed that they are adding a system that makes it easier to receive melds, whether it's an NPC or a request-meld on bazaar feature, they haven't said.
And yeah, Taco, I feel materia was needed but the forbidden system feels like something we'd see two years from now to put life back into crafted trash items.
Random thought/suggestion:
I would like to see an upgrade process for rare/ex items (some of them at least...) that uses the existing spiritbond. Max the spiritbond, take the item to an NPC, select an upgrade. Spritbond is cleared off the item, rinse, and repeat. This prevents the issue of being able to break your rare/ex gear. SE would obviously set a cap to the number of times this could be done to a particular item and what could be added onto it.
Maybe I should post that on the official forums.
