    Uh...

    a) Materia assimilating achievements.
    b) Tier-1 materia goes towards Gambler's Crown attempts.
    c) Tier-1 materia sells for 10k for the same reason.
    d) It's easier/quicker to sell a piece of tier-1 materia than some random, Lv.16, shitty boots.

I didn't think of that. I havent really touched low level material since they added achievement, but last time I did, my tier 2-3 were worth absolutely nothing (as opposed to the 30-50k selling prices).

Either way, that's a shitty way to handle the problem, but I suppose it works if you want to eliminate certain category of gears.

So basically if not for worthless achievements low level gear would not be worth turning into materia and low level materia would again be worthless.

Hey, it's none of my business why people care about crappy materia. The fact remains that there is demand for it because of a Spiritbond +1 crown. Some people thrive off of achievements/trophies/titles in their gaming... so it's not worthless to them.

It will honestly only last until people generally stop caring about Gambler's Crown. Even until then, it doesn't really apply to tools and some specific gear slots because of the materia that results is very specific (crafting/gathering type onry).

There does need to be at least one other purpose for breaking crap down into materia... something better than an "Assimilator" title. Hey, SE, add an accessory that slightly boosts your materia-melding odds through these achievements. Eh? EH?

Or they could simply allow you to combine 2 materia of the same tier for a random materia of the next tier up (and I suppose 2 tier IVs could become another tier IV until more are added).

No one will ever meld 90% of the stat resistance materias to anything ever with the intent of actually using it.

I feel as though not enough people care about getting that achievement as it is. Furthermore, it still doesn't solve the problem for newbies needing money. You outlevel low level gear so fast, it doesn't really have time to full spiritbond. And if it does, I do not know from firsthand expeirence, then it is likely one set of gear they might materia, not tons of it like with higher level gear. It's one and done and then what... still got poor noobs. It's a dead achievement with 0 applied utility in the grand scheme of the game since, as Niiro just pointed out, the gear slotted with shitty materia has even less resale value than it would have without anything in it (since the argument is that people get low level to socket, right?)

Just seems poorly planned to me.

There are currently 210 players online on Selbina, one of the highest populated servers. GG FFXIV!

Wait what time did you take that population for Selbina? Was that during EU or NA prime time log in hours? I think as it stands 17 of the 18 servers NA have populations around 100-450 most of the time. Selbina has shown to be the only NA server (most of the time) to surpass the 650 mark whether it was a weekday or weekend. The only thing I can think of is, did people log off to play XIII-2?

That would be cutting the population to a 1/3. I can only imagine how the other servers must be faring (if you did take the population correctly: i.e. level ranges etc.)

It was shortly after noon and it proceeded to drop to 180 over the next 2 hours. That's pretty--REALLY--bad, regardless of the time of day.

Worst even thus far. I always despise these events that require teaming up with clueless random strangers.

You know what would be a better event than this garbage? Having you go out on a quest to prove your "bond" with your companion (PC or NPC, so you can solo if you want), ending with a big fight against a NM that gives you a gimmick equipment that lets you do something stupid like charm mobs for a short period of time. Naturally, this can only be used against regular mobs (so no cheesing NMs with it) and as the mob get higher in level, the harder it is to charm. So while you can charm a level 1 marmot 100% of the time, charming that level 50 wolf is going to be nearly impossible.

It's all just small nonsense to keep the proverbial ball rolling. I dislike seasonal events in general and just do them for the achievements pretty much. I like to call it simul-content.

No excuse for this half-assed retarded shit. Might as well do the stupid bell if it was going to be like this.

I really dislike the fact that as a Gladiator (or any other "plate-wearer") that my legs are not the same repair as the rest of my gear. Unless I go out and get sentinel's leggings, my best in slot is melded felt trousers which are weaver repair. Why would a gladiator ever want to wear cloth gear exactly? I am not gonna say something stupid like "this is ruining my immersion!", because it isn't, but it sure is chaffing my ass that even gear sets are consistently distributed across classes. GLA/MRD/LNC = heavy/light plate, ARC/PGL(/THM) = leather, THM/CNJ = cloth. This makes sense, but in ffxiv it makes little sense and I know it's done to give X crafting class a BiS piece they can make, but it's getting a little tiring switching to 3-4 repair classes to fix shit for one of my battle classes.

When you're wearing plate tassets to cover your junk/ass and plate leggings on your feet that come up to your thighs, you'r probably not going to have any room to wear much more than cloth leggings underneath.

Yeah, similar to what mioko said, the "Cuisses", which used to be leg-slot gear in FFXI, are now attached to the Sabatons for whatever reason. Thus, all they could think to have in the leg slot was some cloth pants. How do you know Cuisses are part of sabatons, you say? Because the dated recipe required you to make cuisses in order to craft the sabatons.

Personally, I like the need for more classes to repair everyone's gear, but I can see why people who might not care about crafting would find that irritating.

Well I "care" about crafting enough to have all but BSM 40+ (and it's 38 now). What I do find irritating is how it's still easier to repair other people's gear, or even to get other people to repair your gear for you, than to repair your own gear. It's really archaic lol

Yeah, I wish the repair option was something you could do without even equipping the right tool. If my shit is broken, I don't want to have to take it off, equip the right tool, and hunt through my inventory just to repair something. If someone needs a repair, I don't want to switch classes just to do it. Level + class check -- can I do it? Good, then do it. The repair animation is all but gone now anyway, if they removed it entirely, they could easily remove the need for you to be on the right class to repair things.
