In the spirit of this thread, though, I would like to say that my #1 complaint is not being able to sort my inventory. For those around when the option was around briefly, was it obviously bugged to the point of needing removal?

The option is still around; the "Discard"-Button was called "Organize" in B2 if I remember correctly. A friend was like "WTF? It's gone!".

Just wondering if the people doing a lot of complaining about whatever it is they feel the game needs, are actually sending SE feedback? I know a lot of people see it as being a pointless thing to do, but i remember the petition regarding not being able to re-quest black belt. Also back when Ulli was still a lotto pop and my sky ls were lucky to get one Byakko a week i sent in feedback e-mails every other day regarding this issue, and although im not saying i had a direct impact on SE addressing the issue, it may or may not have helped, either way just sending them a quick message in the hope they will listen and adjust the game to how the player base feels it should be cant hurt.

Pretty sure mio was talking about u doing the level 1 leve for high appraisal to get whatevers after iron ingot.

Also I actually have a new complaint that didn't start bothering me until last night. Needs to be an option to sell everything in your inventory at once
Annoying having to click every item individualy after u add in the menus and the 3s lag between each menu.

So that and the sort button and your game will be perfect SE!

Edit: Also to the guy complaining about the GM taking a long time to respond. I'm sure there are probably 1k calls being made every second. Most of them probably from the posters in this thread lol.....

To relate the car to an MMO better though, the first edition should really be called the prototype.
Wrong. This isn't some flagship production of theirs. This is their second foray into the MMO scene. This isn't the Corvette: the single player FF's are Corvettes, and even those are floundering because the Development team has lost their way and can't seem to pinpoint what they want vs. what the public expects. FFXIV is to FFXI what the 2010 Camaro was to the 2002, and what the 2006 Mustang was to the 2001: The next generation of the company's pony car product, set to re-capture a fading, but hotly desired market.

This was a chance to use their previous model, update it, look at the schematics of other companies products, use what worked out of them, and craft an excellent second reiteration of their first product; something that would have made nostalgics drool and skeptics on the fence begrudgingly admit that this product is amazing.

SE failed to do either. How hard is it to understand? Yes, the game has potential, a few years later, just like a new release of a classic car has potential a few versions later. But both are similar: if either initial version gets slammed by the press and the consumers, it becomes difficult for future versions to attract the same buzz, because everyone remembers the initial product.

Yes, MMO's get a grace period, but MMOs should also launch with functions working properly. That's what the Alpha, Beta, and OB are for. Tell me what, exactly, did SE learn between Alpha and Launch?

I keep hoping the game will get better but with other MMO's coming out and WoW's expansion, it's hard to stay focused or patient with FF14. Sure, I played XI for years and wanted this to be a modern version of it but they let me down (so far). I really wanted a FF with a WoW-esque UI and a better overall system. The game still feels dated to me and every time I have to run all the way around a zone to skip a 1 foot ledge, I get angry because that's just one other thing I feel like they missed the boat on.

    -Hardware Mouse
    -Active battle over turn based
-Faster UI that's still horribly slow
    -Some mob placement issues
    -Uh... Oh significantly easier crafting
    -Ok I've run out

It's less about the actual content and more about SE putting out what players ask for. Abyssea was no doubt a gambit to keep people paying for XI but it's amazing how many people came back to XI when SE started you know.... going down the list of player concerns and devoting the updates to fixing shit and creating content that's overall better than the previous 2 years of dev-centric content. If '07-09 killed XI, '10 rose XI from the dead like Jesus.

The last two Abysseas have done more for XI than 2 whole years of previous patches where XI. BST became relevant again, PUPs got what they asked for, tons of "casual" content abroad, new JAs across the board and the list goes on. Abyssea shows that SE is capable of listening to their playerbase and putting out content that is desired.

The fear with XIV isn't that it wont become a playable game by PS3 launch but that SE will take many years to make XIV into a truely casual experience. It's evident that they are trying to reinvent the wheel when they had great casual ideas that went unused in XI.

It's too early to call where XIV will go but right now for anyone who played XI, this game is looking like early XI with prettier graphics. The game launched too early for PC but unless SE shakes the old dev syndrome and shows that they intend to take player concerns seriously, this game is going to end up like XI where it winds up with a relatively small core of players.

XIV has the potential to grab far more people but again SE is showing that they've truly learned how to avoid grabbing market share.

    A) If it looks like early XI with prettier graphics, that would be a great success already. They would have essentially gotten in 3 years to the same point that took 4 and half years to get to with XI.

It's not entirely true because some key features are missing that were present in NA XI, but as far as game mechanics go the game is already leaps and bounds ahead of JP PS2 XI, as it should be.

    B) "Unless SE shakes the old dev syndrome"- what old dev syndrome exactly? Have they not listened? Are they not listening? If they keep the current development up for a year, it won't even take that long to make this game good.

Sure, they are old-school, but that has nothing to do with not taking player concerns seriously.

This game just flat out blows dick right now and thats even putting it nicely. It is looking more and more like half of my guild and I aren't even going to make it past the free trial period when it runs out. I wouldn't even be surprised if the "release day patch" hits on the 22nd this month just so they can get 1month subscription out of people when most free trials are ending on the 21st.

Not even the basics are in this game, the experience so far has been one of the worst that I can remember in recent memory of online gaming. The grind is 10x worse than any Korean MMO i've played. Random class exp system is completely utter fail, I just love killing a yellow dot mob @ rank 21 and getting 0 class exp after being taken down to 200hp. The only thing this game has going for it at the moment is the graphics, music OST, mission CS's. I can honestly say this isn't even worth a monthly fee right now, I don't believe in magic patches and only expect maybe 20% of the issues to be addressed by the release patch and thats being really generous thinking on my part.

white knights and SE defense force need not to respond, just gonna end up on my ignore list.

I think we all can agree that SE does things the way they want to. While that may be foreign to us, it's just how they handle things. I'm sort of hanging around to see what they do with their first major patch. If I see them moving in the right direction or at least addressing some of these issues, I'll stick around but if not, it's just too easy to stick with WoW.

What bother me the most is that WoW's beta lasted longer than FFXIV's alpha and beta combined. You could see the game shape up every updates from something empty and buggy, to a playable games with a lot of contents (new ui, completely revamped battle system, quest redone everywhere, graphic improvement..etc), and there is still 2 months left of fine tuning.

Since FFXIV's alpha, what changed? The battle system is the only major change I can think off. You could consider the hardware mouse as well but shit, people programmed homemade fix in less than a day for this.

Now, if they were telling where they want to go with the game, it would be acceptable, but what do we get? Chocobo will be implemented at a later time because they want to make them "special" (more shitty text based chocobo breeding, boring chocobo delivery quest, shepard's "hot and cold" chocobo minigame?). Notorious monsters will be added in the outside world (I'm rightfully worried about this)?

This is a fantastic post. I couldn't have said it better myself.

EDIT: Also, this is something that puzzled me from the beginning. Why in the world do the craft guilds not actually sell their specific crafting tools? I think in Gridania the carpenter guild is the only guild that actually sells the tools needed to be a carpenter. It only makes sense to me.....:/

    - Remember the 1280x720 resolution? Remember the nonexistent shadows that were present in the Alpha that made the game look so plastic? If you're saying the game did not change at all graphically.. well, I'm not surprised about you saying that kind of shit.

    - I don't know about you, but I had huge trouble moving during the Alpha with my Roegadyn. The problem was even more apparent in active stance. It didn't work at all.

    - Servers obviously received the biggest changes but of course nothing changed from Alpha to Retail in that aspect. lol.

    - Gathering and Crafting skill ups were changed to a more consistent system and they better be working on doing the same for combat.

    - The #1 issue with players from the start of Beta- mouse camera controls that do not simply emulate gamepads. But let's just remember hardware mouse, aye?

    - Keymapping for the most part.

    - Marketplace, party search function, linkshells, text commands & macros.

    - Combat system.. yeah, can just skip this one.

    - 10x quests, 4x guildleves, 5x areas.

    - Tutorials.

    - All kind of balancing shit & minor things like /tell recipient error.

    - Classes & Races not available during Alpha/Beta.

Now if they hadn't fucked up with the UI from alpha to beta your claims would be even more ridiculous, but that shit did indeed hit the fan.

Now, if they were telling where they want to go with the game, it would be acceptable, but what do we get?
    - UI is being worked on

    - Marketplace & retainers are being worked on

    - Enmity is being worked on

    - More content is going to be implemented (PvP, examples of various guildleve types, instances)

Now if they had also talked about party play what the fuck else should they say? This shit is what majority of the complaints are about. UI is shit, marketplace is shit, enmity sucks and party play sucks. Billion other problems are linked to these mechanics not working properly too.

It only makes sense to have the PUG guild sell PUG weapons etc etc. I don't understand the random NPC selling the random weapons/tools.

Only because you're complaining about it, and this is the complaint thread.

Meko: The "random" NPCs aren't random - they sell shit from the other 2 cities that aren't available in your main city. All of the other craft vendors sell their own tools, including BS/Arm and LW/Weaver.
