It really saddens me that whenever someone doesn't like the latest MMO, they're always told to "go back to WoW". I know there's no getting away from it for some people, but aren't I allowed to try and like both? Does it have to be a choice? The internet is such a depressing place when it comes to trying to have a rational discussion about gaming.

    And this to.

But also the xp post 50 where the tnl was actually literally lowered. And that was soon after it was released in NA hence the use of the word vanilla. (Yes I know that's not technically the "vanilla" version of the game)

I'm not sure what the rush to get to max level is anyway at the moment, there is no end game content so you would just be sitting around doing the same leves you would be doing from 43-50 anyways lol. Getting the level a day i am at the moment is perfectly fine for me. I rushed to 50 in Aion got to max level and quit a month after because their end game was bad so learnt from my mistakes there.

I am sure this has been brought up already, but why the fuck does the ingame sound controls not work at all for crafting, footsteps and other shitty sounds that after hearing for 10 minutes drives any sane person crazy. Just shows shody programming to have an option to reduce sound effects that doesn't even work on anything at all annoying?

It's not about getting to 50 asap, it's about getting CONSISTENT exp. Not the random crap they have now.

^, since everyone loves using that now. Knowing that I am fairly compensated for my efforts each time is better than this "maybe, maybe not" crapshoot that we currently have.

I don't understand why some people can defend this. Those same people whined and bitched in FFXI about how frustrating it was at times (and without a broken, multi-hitting weapon, especially for 2-handers) about how hard it was to skill up certain weapons/skills, and now that it has changed from individual weapons to entire classes, suddenly its cool because "FFXIV has the bestest graphics ever!"?

I'm mainly DoL and DoH so I can't really vouch for this but if the previous example is true what's the big fucking deal?

    100x10=1k
    100+200+0+0+0+200+0+300+50+50=1k

This is referring to skill point gain

The idea is consistency. I know that people play this game to be left in the dark because it makes it harder (omg WoW hand holds AMG!!!!!!!!!!!!) but it would be nice to understand how the skill gains work and if there is a consistent pattern with them. I know it's crazy to think that if it isn't completely random (which apparently means skill) it's not worth having but sometimes, providing a little information is more helpful than harmful in the sense of making the game "too easy" etc.

Because on Conj it's more like this:

    Yellow mobs:

    100 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 58 - 150 - 0 - 0 - 25

    Blue:

    175 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 12 - 2 - 50 - 75

    Red

    250 - 24 - 75 - 0 - 80 - 125 and that's if you can even kill that many reds...

And lets not get into parties where you're curing and can't DD much.

    Cure > Sac > Cure > Sac > Spirit dart > spirit dart > cure > sac

be lucky to get 100 points.

If I cure that much in a fight, I'm likely to get at least 70 skill points for my troubles, if I'm lucky 100-150. I mostly have to spam cure and not much else otherwise people die.

Infact, the only annoying thing about healing for skill ups is getting hate, dying and not getting shit. I want a skill mod as much as the next person (not gonna argue if they make it easier), but enmity is still messed up.

We were doing a 5 star faction leve last night. Myself and another conj died pretty quick due to the amount of emnity that we received due to healing.

No doubt. If I single target heal, no too much of an issue with threat but if I throw down on some AoE, it's all over. I'll spend the rest of the time spamming Cure to keep myself up in hopes to get skill/exp. Also, with the way you fight "groups" of mobs, those mobs do dots and AoE stuff themselves so you are better off using AoE cure because as far as I can tell, there is no difference in MP (at least there isn't in the tool tip).

It's 12 or w/e it is for aoe or single target. Profundity doesn't stack with Cure, that also makes me very sad :/

The big fucking deal is when one takes longer than the other, the latter's XP can be mitigated by the grouping xp bug, ect.

If you put a reasonable amount of time in, you want to see a reasonable return for your time investment. With crafting, I get that, no matter how annoying I may find the grind at any particular level or time of the day. Not so much with DoW/DoM.

Yeah, I remember, that wasn't "vanilla" FFXI, that was FFXI with five level cap raises and two expansions.

^My point is still valid since you all are comparing FFXIV which is clearly in its vanilla state, to the way FFXI is now in 2010
