I think the argument is that if it's made by the same people who worked on an 8-year old game, upon launch, XIV should have all the nice features carried over by default. There's a number of things unrealistic about that, but it's a valid argument for shit like inventory sorting, keyboard commands/binding/macros, and a few other basic UI organization issues.

Since the whole exp/skill thing works differently in this game, we're not going to see a fleshed out skill/exp gain, curve, or what-have-you right off the bat. These are things that need to be adjusted specifically to actual players playing and how they fit into the initially implemented system... which takes a little bit of time. Focusing on that type of adjustment is not a purpose of a beta because beta testers are not an accurate cross-section of your target market. So you can't say they had assloads of time to fix the curve/gain when the people who play betas are usually a lot more hardcore than the average player. Yeah, they'll fix obvious shit like hax skill gain, but they are, by default, going to be a lot slower in fixing something that slows down player progression.

I'm liking how the persons defending something they are currently spending their time, interest and money on, are the idiots - while the persons attacking something they are currently spending their time, interest and possibly money on, are the ones calling them out.

This thread is good crafting skill-up entertainment. God bless the background window controller function.

You're point is very invalid. Comparing 'vanilla' FFXI to 'vanilla' FFXIV is even more ridiculous then anything else. I'm sorry - this is not 1999, games should no longer be made around that mentality. Releasing a half-assed, incomplete, buggy game will not turn a profit(like it did back then). Comparing XI to XIV is very much justified, as it's the exact same team creating the game, they should use the knowledge and expertise they got from XI to make sure XIV launches with appropriate 'polish'. There are more then enough examples to what should be in XIV - and is damn near inexcusable to not have. It's 2010, it's XIV - not XI. XIV should be all means been more polished and overall 'better' then XI's release, and it really isn't, stop using that lousy excuse as a defense. I don't see anyone asking for obvious systems in XI that took a while to create(Level scaling and what not) to be in at launch - we want(and need) the basic things that should be in the game. Go SE defense force somewhere that it will actually work.

People pull that card because in 2010, there is a certain level of expectation as there have been many MMO's since the EQ/FF/UO days. When you launch something new that nobody has ever seen, there's nothing to base it off of or compare it to so there is a certain innocence/bliss. With that being said, the little things that suck (like losing exp, de-leveling, camping mobs for 8-16 hour windows) are now more noticeable than ever. In 2010 when you release a game with fundamental issues like a crappy chat window, shitty UI, laggy menu system, botched EXP/Skill gain system, you are gonna get bombed for it. Nobody is safe anymore. APB lasted like 2 weeks or something because it was fail.

I think it's important to remember that MOST people on these forums really WANT FFXIV to be awesome and I'm sure we'd all like to enjoy it. I kept telling my buddies that they were going to make a new FF with a modern WoW-like UI and system with the grit that FFXI had (these were my hopes). I'm hoping they can still keep it going and hopefully fix the little things that are causing the headaches.

Exactly, this is what the "2010" card means. We want the BASICS to be in place and working PROPERLY. EXP and SP, while completely fucked up at the moment, really aren't the main issue that people are having with the game. Laggy menus, being locked when you open a menu while running, an archaic crafting system that you have to choose one item at a time, no search, no party on main map, people not getting their EXP/SP that they gain during a fight, a crappy UI, a chat system that is god awful and has a horrible character limitation, THESE are the things that are making us angry. These are the things that are NOT acceptable for an MMO in 2010, especially for a company that has had a successful MMO.

I WANT to play FFXIV, I WANT it to be an awesome game. But I WANT to be able to do basic shit without wanting to rip out my hair.

    Review from JP amazon:

    --------------------------------

When we first heard about the FF14 release, my linkshell (like a big in-game party, but different) decided to all play together, but after experiencing the incredibly scant content available in open beta, a number of people started to say they might not play.

First of all, the most basic FF11 functionality isn't there. This is a step backwards. A lot of people are saying "Well, FF11 had problems in beta as well," but this is on a completely different level. Simple things that worked in FF11 like functional UI are missing. The most striking examples are that chat doesn't even work correctly, not to mention something like item sorting.

Secondly, it's the company management. Just like with the FFXI release, When (Japanese) users have publicly reported bugs, saying "We don't think this is working right, could you please investigate?", the company doesn't listen and instead, some time later, the user ends up banned. Once again buyers of the collector's edition and those who linked characters from FF11 were promised special items that appear to not be working correctly. For example, the item that was given to FF11 players, Hermes Boots, were said to increase movement speed on users, but it seems they only work for 15 minutes, which isn't explained anywhere in the in-game item stats or description, and instead simply cuts out the effect without notice once you've equipped them.

Players of FF11 are probably familiar with this, but the tendency for the company to completely ignore the feedback of its users is absolutely shocking. As proof, look at the text included in the Japanese version of the game, and the usage of Chinese characters. During development they said "We're listening to customer feedback and adjusting the game accordingly," but not a single piece of that feedback has made it into the release, and I'm sure many feel they were wasting their time. Who would have thought we'd see the day when "Chocobos" actually became "Horse Birds?"

After nearly eight years, FF11 has finally been tweaked and fixed to the point that people can have fun, but after seeing all of the exact same mistakes repeated in FF14, I have no interest in going through it again.

Promises like "legions of players versus legions of mobs" have turned out to be a complete lie, and instead all we can do is one or several players fighting one or several mobs. The promise that one server can support several hundred thousand users has also turned out to be a lie, with servers crashing before they even reach ten thousand. The hope since beta was that it would all be fixed soon, but the fact we've gone straight to production with the game still in this shape is incredibly disappointing.

He never said it was. It's just a lot harder to find positive reviews compared to negatives. Again it's not SE's first go at a MMO. It shouldn't be this fucking retarded to do 1/2 the shit that we want to do. Why can't I just get a prompt for trade? Or for accepting ports? Why does everything have to be done via the menu?

Dumb post is dumb. I said from JP amazon. Not the country.

Edit: Funnily enough the highest rated comment is a negative one.

Put it to you this way - if the JPs are complaining, then you *KNOW* something's wrong.

Fucking Christ stop posting. Why don't you get on your SE Defense Force Chocobo and go find a positive review of the game, whether it's a user based submission or one written by the media - in any language. Someone asked if the JP were complaining - so he posted a JP review; simple question and answer. If your ignorant enough to think that he said that it represents every person on the planet, or in any one region - you're a 'tard.

Seriously, im getting so tired of these SE fucktards... now lodestone has an update about battle regimen. nice, I thought at first; however, we tried that in party in many ways, didnt work for us.

And if you SE Fucktards read that, fix party game play before doing anything with battle regimen because this will only be usefull i a party and skill up bug is still there, since alpha

You must be failing because the crafting system is purely based on skill and no randomness. L2P!!
