    I thought it was revealed that Retainers did not disappear after maintenance...? (I thought someone recently cleared that up?) Obviously, they are going to be forced out of the Market Wards as they overhaul the wards themselves tonight, but this is something that's going to eventually not matter at all as maintenances become less and less frequent. Right now it just sucks because they're patching every week to make up for the rushed release.

    Its going to be a big deal for a long time, then. These patches aren't just going to fade away after the holidays, or they shouldn't rather. This game needs frequent patches all the way up to March's "retail" release.

    We wouldn't need it if SE copy-pasta'd everything from the last post on the "What you want in the future" thread.

    I almost dropped my tea (yeah, green tea rocks) cup when I read over the "changes". Jesus. It was so complete and comprehensive that I thought I had woke from a long dream or something.

    Market Ward changes. Yay! But oh wait. My retainer is currently selling 2 PUG weapons, 2 THM weapons, an earring, a bracelet, looking to buy crystals, and some smithing gloves and a scarf, plus some bits of leather. Where the fuck do I put her? I've already noticed people putting their retainers in the "wrong" wards, and frankly for me - someone who is doing what a good seller should do and diversifying my wares - there isn't a "right" one.

    Market wards are a bad idea for a variety of reasons. Having 20 wards, 1 retainer, and a variety of things to sell makes the entire endeavor pointless. These are not real life marketplaces where you sell specific things in your shop and little-to-nothing else. This is a bonanza of pawn shops that do not fit into any one ward. (Hell, probably often not any 3-4 wards.)

    The Market Wards do not need a search function.

    Final Fantasy XIV needs an Auction House.

    Edit: Correction, a search function would still be nice, and keeping the retainer system would still be nice as a pretty solid alternative to having a new Rolanberry Mall or w/e. But forcing this through and not adding a proper AH to maintain the ability to charge us $1/month extra per additional retainer we want/need is bullshit.

    This system sucks but I figured something that might work for now.
    There two major categories of players: one that focuses on combat classes and one that focuses on craft/gathering classes.

    If you happen to sell items aimed to the first category put your retainer in the first ward (Disciples of War stuff), else put it in the fourth one (Disciples of Hand's tools + crystals), which should be the most viewed ones.

    What matters is your retainer actually being browsed, not a silly fee discount. I don't know why SE fails to realize this simple concept.

    What a waste of a version update. Market wards should be tossed out. Put in an AH already with a different design. Market wards will never be easy, quick, or useful and will always be annoying, slow, and less efficient than an AH. Focus on something more pressing like combat skill point gain. All they patched with regard to that matter was a LIMITATION on the level range of players and SP bonus gain.

    The only useful things to come from this (lol)patch are: click on a retainer > auto open bazaar(hopefully this is as good as it sounds) and you can now hold 9,999 shards. The fix to "you cannot summon your retainer" is probably a waste since it deals with summoning your retainer after you summon it in a ward(which I never do because wards are useless?).

    What we needed;
    -autosort: it's getting ridiculous. This should have been a priority.
    -more retainers: obviously since we have 4 DIFFERENT types of the same mats (NQ +1 +2 +3)
    -lag fixes: Any would have been welcome, namely using your retainer.
    -SP combat gain: this is game breaking atm and really should have been a priority.
    -mailbox: this is a priority too with the lack of transportation in the game. Running to meet up with someone to trade everytime is getting annoying since 80% of time spent in XIV is running.
    This isn't even asking for much, just things that should be there already.

    Cheers to loosing 50%+ of their free trial accounts. I'm not surprised though. I kinda expected a disappointment.

    Aye, and we'll be back to square one, with everyone crowding into the same few wards and no search function, so we'll just be walking around again clicking NPCs at random, hoping they have what we want. Fucking hell, it feels like SE wants the game to fail.

    Yeah I expected this market ward change to fail. I expect to sell less now that people aren't going to look in ward X for Z when it is labelled as selling Y. Unless they give me multiple retainers it's not working.

    Even if they gave you multiple retainers... why? You now need to summon a different retainer for each type of good you're selling? Just a time sink and very annoying. AH is the thing we need, without it this game will never be as good as it could be. We don't need an XI system where you can view price history, just a place that you can place a set amount of items up with a minimum bid, auction time, and buyout price that everyone can see. It's really not that complicated and SE needs to understand this ward system will never work. Even if they add a search function so you can see what retainer has an item you're looking for is on, you still need to physically go to that ward and locate that retainer to purchase the item.

    Tell me, how did this get into retail? And how do they ever expect this to work?

    Oh, they'll be giving us multiple retainers. For a fee.

    Needs one (not four) central Auction House, accessible from every city. It doesn't need to be the same format AH as in XI, with price histories. It could be an open market, showing who is selling what and for how much, similar to Aion. It could be an exact copy/paste of XI's AH. Anything less is forcing us to adhere to a system that will allow them to lease us market mules on a monthly basis.

    XI had areas people set up fields of bazaars in, leave the market wards up and a single retainer each for that, so that people don't have to stay logged in with a bazaar up to sell stuff that way. That's what it's good for. To replace the need to stay logged in while not playing in order to sell things in a bazaar.

    I need multiple retainers just so I can have inventory space. It's getting really bad the higher I level. I don't think we'll see an AH in the near future and searching wards is probably weeks away.

    To be fair, the ward changes did help organize at least a bit. But the limitation on retainers is really hurting atm. Adding those in and reducing retainer lag will do wonders for this game.
