I see plenty of everything that is so over priced no one would buy, like wind shards 450 gil each. They should up the supply, but be creative about it. Like put crystals in tier 3+ gathering nodes.

I can't wait till I hit 20+ in my crafts and experience this mega shard crisis.
Can you imagine how bad it will be 30/40+? It's not like mobs/gathering give more the higher you level DoW/M/L. We'll have to hope farming elementals for clusters will bring in enough. Sucks if you're a crafter without a decent levelled DoW/M.
Spoiler: show
Now I can't get my Hagun![]()
I'm down to 300 earth shards and I can only make the bare necessities to keep my bazaar stocked. Can't level armorer or weaver outside of leves now. It sucks.
High level alchemists are going to make bank off of this.
I guess the tables have turned about who whines about what. The crafting haters who only wanted to play combat jobs whined about how they're forced to craft, but slowly the crafting lovers are forced to go out in the fields and farm shards, because the supply for shard is currently much lower than the demand and the people who farm those shards have seen it and have started to rise up the prices, and the worst thing is, they probably haven't even hit the peak prices yet.
I personally, with the current state of the game, couldn't care a rats ass about combat and grinding honestly, I'd just like to sit in my lil warm corner and do my crafting, but no way in hell I'm going to pay more than 200g a piece for a shard, rarely even that, no matter how many millions of gil I currently have. The only thing I can do is to farm some shards myself and keep my retainer trading gear for shards, because people are still suckers for looks and have no idea about the value of some pieces of gear, and stupidly trade several hundreds of shards for them. I guess the same can be said about the people who actually buy the shards for prices like 300g+/shard in stead of going grinding for an hour or two for free shards, not to mention a few other benefits too.
Problem is shards aren't scaling. It will be hell when half the server have a craft in the 20s, and even worse as they move on to the 30+ recipes that require 16 shards per synth for skill ups. They really should up the number of shard drops for higher level mobs and gathering nodes. It should be a scale, not the same from rank 1 to 50.
The point where shard costs hit the price where crafting becomes unprofitable is the point where I become disinterested in crafting completely. Crafting and playing the market with my goods is 90% of the fun I am extracting from the game at the moment (the other 10% being battle leves and group leveling), so it sucks for me. It would help a lot of everything of value didn't take earth and/or wind shards to make.
I usually pump out bronze daggers pretty frequently since they sell fast even though they don't sell for much. Nowadays the shard cost of 8 earth, 9 wind, and 6 fire for the major components and final synth gives me pause. That's over 5k worth of shards for a dagger that goes for no more than 10k non-HQ'd. I feel bad for the people who are just starting to make Haubys to sell now as the shard cost alone is up to over 50k.
I hope things are tweaked in the November patch.
edit: Decided to enter the crystal splitting business after all. Bought up enough earth crystals for 4000 shards. I can support my own crafts at least, though it will take twice as long to make anything. Crystal prices only went up a little with the 9999 change since nobody is hoarding them yet. It'll be good until people get wise.
Crystal > shard synth has been good for ages. Only now are people starting to wise up. I've been hoarding and buying cheap earth for weeks now.
I haven't been paying attention to the market price of crystals and shards, since I've just been using only what I get myself. How much do they generally go for now?
Crystals on my server range from 1k~2k, shards anywhere from 80~300 per. Usually cheaper to buy crystals unless you see a bunch of shards for 100 per.
If I see a crystal for less than 1k (earth usually) I buy that shit asap.
I don't know. I think it's better for game balance if shard and crystal prices increase. That would hit all crafters equally. If shard prices are low, gear will be hard to sell and cheap to buy - except the new stuff, which will sell for millions. Low crystal prices make the rich pioneering crafters even richer.
Regional rank 30 leves often have elementals that drop an embarassingly high amount of crystals (like 6 per elemental), price is eventually going to drop a lot.
CONs can solo random roaming elementals very easily as well.
Why is "release your retainer from service" so close to "dismiss your retainer for now"? I clicked release by accident, and was so close to losing everything on it. If you want to release your retainer you should have to go to the guild. It's silly making it so easy to destroy half the stuff you own, regardless of the confirmation box. I'm sure some people will do this by accident at some point.
And now I'm praying for a maintenance so I can get my retainer back in the battlecraft ward, because shit won't sell anywhere else.
They really should have just made an armour ward instead of dividing it into legs, head, body etc...
I've actually found exactly what I wanted in both the feet and head wards the only times I've looked. Maybe I got lucky.
It gives you a warning before you release the retainer and lose all your items, it even tells you you'll lose everything and asks you if you want to proceed. Why is "release your retainer from service" so close to "dismiss your retainer for now"? I regret not having chosen a PUG or ARC to start as sometimes instead of LNC. Especially when I watch an ARC explode a mob 4lvls over them in a giant burst.
You probably can, but it sucks for the weavers and leather workers who make heads, feets, bodies, hands and legs rather than just one.
Weavers and leather workers might be better off putting stuff in the tailor or tanning sections. If I make a lot of random gear, I'll put my retainer in the ward that taxes the most expensive stuff less.
Yeah my friend made a bunch of hats and then some other pieces to go with it and stuck his NPC in the hat ward. Hopefully people will see the matching set and buy the other stuff too. I am more bothered by there being so many random people bazaaring in the DOW, DOL, and DOH wards. I wish they had made the first ward be random, and the second ward be shards... and then they defiently could have combined hat/gloves and legs/feet
