I say leave puzzles for actual content, rather than game mechanics.
Small list of things I can think of which may or may not have an influence on synths:
game day
game month
time of day
moon phase
the number/type of crystals/shards used
the number/different type of ingredients used (maybe recipes with only one material are easier?)
direction you face (zomg ffxi crafting ideas)
main hand/offhand tool
weather
class level vs synth level
elemental resistance stats (maybe it's harder to synth with fire shards if you throw everything in water?!)
physical stats (classes get skills based on str, dex, etc, maybe these have an influence?)
-by extension, physical level
level/lack of guild support
And that's without even mentioning control/perception/crafting/m.crafting. Do I think most of these things - if any - have an influence? Probably not. If you were testing would you need to take them into account? Yes. We're not asking for EZ mode. We're asking for sensible mode.
Just took about 5mins to summon my retainer, weren't they supposed to fix them to a some extent at least? Wasn't very far from force shutting down the game, cause all I could do was stand there and chat after I summoned the faggot.
I think it's just because the game is very laggy in general atm, happened after other updates to various degrees but seems to be worse today ;;
Speaking of updates, this update...is this a joke?
After update I logged in to an empty market ward, no lag at all, but as soon as i stepped outside, holy shit laaaaaaaaaaag.
edit - no lag at all by ff14 standards; which is to say, quite laggy, but not anything unusual for the game.
Synth support actually works for me =S
I just can't complete some lv20 leves without support... Without it I break the 50% aprox, and with support (400g-1.000g ones) I get like 90% chances.
I don't know if support gives skill level, craftmanship skill, or just a % chance, but it works for me so far.
Are you serious with this? What on earth would make you think anything but the obvious shit on that list has any influence on the success of a synth. This isn't ffxi. People need to stop throwing random factors into crafting based on how shit was in ffxi. This is how these horrible superstitions get started in the first place.
Stuff on your list is either obviously true (class lvl vs synth lvl). Or horribly wrong (game month)
P.S
Even in ffxi all that day/weather/facenorth shit was garbage.
S'up reading. We'll also overlook that this is obviously a more complex, involved crafting system than ffxi with many more potential variants which probably do nothing but we know so little that ruling them out would undermine any potential tests you might conduct, and nor do we have eight years worth of player experience to draw from.Do I think most of these things - if any - have an influence? Probably not.
So how hard would it be to not change tools while recording data? Not re-allocate stats and affinity during testing? Take many smaller samples instead of one gigantic session to marginalize the possible effect of moon, day, level and so on? Always face north?
All it takes is spreadsheets and some people willing to put in a little effort. There is no need to scientifically isolate the testing environment from other factors - small errors are not going to make a building collapse in 10 years. The results don't need to hold up in court - no ones going to jail over this.
So sick of the misguided "if the sample size is smaller than 9000, it's worthless" attitude.
This is probably the hardest/least practical point. A lowbie crafter will soon level up and invalidate the findings; and a high level crafter (who, I would assume, cares about his/her craft level) who would want to put his/her SP progress on hold to spam lowbie synths is gonna be hard to find.
No, but it could make the whole thing a waste of time. And all this over the simple question "does guild support help for synths which don't explicitly need it?"! So absurd. There is no need to scientifically isolate the testing environment from other factors - small errors are not going to make a building collapse in 10 years. The results don't need to hold up in court - no ones going to jail over this.
Probably everybody bitching about this, but here goes:
Menus/Bazaars/NPC sellers all totally suck balls. WAY too much lag. I spend half an hour just loading shit to my retainer.
Ability loading lag. Some abilities dont load at all to the slot I put them in. says it is set, but isnt actually set.
Really dont like market wards/retainer/bazaar onry economy. I really miss centralized AH economies. Sure, gil sellers were a problem, but I have so much random shit that I dont have time to deal with market research, etc. wish I could just see what they are selling for and undercut.
Economy is too heavily NPC based. All my money so far seems to be coming from NPC rewards (guildleves, quests, etc). I would much rather see player-player based economy.
EDIT: Also, why the fuck can we still not swim/jump?
Why would you want to swim? Is the ferry to LL not slow enough for you?
