    What?
You're both making an assumption that I've provided a suggestion for this fix. Not once did I say "jumping is the solution", nor do I feel that way. In fact what I do think is that, like nearly every other facet of this game, the terrain has fundamental design flaws and the best way to fix it would just be to scrap the whole damn idea and start over.

Also, I don't have to "understand how games are made", that's SE's job, and they're clearly doing a piss poor job of wrapping their heads around that. Not everyone has an interest in game development nor should they have to in order to play this game or any game.

Being blocked constantly by invisible wall get old fast. Hell, walking over a big bridge in FF and WoW is two completely differents thing, just because of that possibility. Knowing you can fall/jump, knowing there is something down there give you a completely different feeling when you explore the place.

Being able to swim also add a lot imo. Underwater are always great and imaginative.
I know what you're getting at, but with or without jumping, the only thing that matters is design. The docks in Limsa could be designed so that you didn't have to run all the way around to get there. Instead of adding jumping with the design they have, they should have designed the terrain with more (or less) movement options in mind.

At this point, with the current layout of the terrain, adding jumping is silly. The game simply isn't designed with jumping in mind, so adding jumping (+more messy collision bounds and chances of getting stuck someplace) now would only make things worse, not better. Not to mention that's a lot more animation to do, factoring in physics for the character, all the races and body types blah blah blah. It's a lot of work for something that isn't necessary to an RPG that has been designed moderately well. Though I can assume a little that when you talk about jumping, you're merely talking about the experiences with it, rather than implementation. I can't argue that it doesn't give a different experience, but no jumping can be a positive if shit is designed well.

Though let's be a little more realistic about what adding jumping and/or swimming would do the visual state of the game. I suspect the reality of it will be as I imagined, with hundreds of twats jumping up and down for no reason. On the plus side, you would easily be able to identify who's an idiot, 13, or mentally retarded.

Ultimately, you're always bound by what the developers want. If there's a bridge and you shouldn't be able to jump over the sides, you damn well ain't jumping over the sides.

I've been busy with RL the past week and haven't had a chance to log in. Now that I do(sorta, got studying to do), I really don't even have the urge to do it. I kinda thought about it, and just came to the conclusion that the game blows simply because it doesn't have a play style. It's not casual, and it's not hardcore. It's in between which doesn't work.

I evaluated my time in game and realized that I spent about 60-80% of it just running from one place to the next. You simply can't get around fast enough to make this a casual game unless you stick to one city(which if you do, you miss out on marks/gear/exploring other areas). I also thought about how much combat classes are just retarded to grind because of the wack SP gain system and that my primary role in the game was just crafting items. How lame is that? All I do is make gear and make money which doesn't hold much of any value at the moment. The reason I got the game was to play a combat class in a group and to take down difficult monsters or do instances that would provide a challenge. The fact that the game has more crafting/gathering classes than combat classes should have just stopped me from even getting this game. I don't want to spend all my time in the game playing a class that helps me form a niche in a virtual economy. Hell I don't even want a strong virtual economy. I want to log in and kill some stuff with a group for fun/rewards. An economy in any game just provides a time sink that players have to deal with in order to actually play the game. What I was looking for in this game was a casual FFXI, which SE seemly did kinda hint towards.

This whole thing made me think back to when I used to play warhammer. At all levels in that game you were exposed to some sort of fun, whether it be Orvr, scenarios, public quests, instanced areas, etc. In all of this the grind was somewhat removed since you were having 'fun' while playing the game. I mean, you log in and click a button to enter a que for a scenario upon which you are automatically teleported to, and upon completing it you're teleported back. During peak hours you can go to a Orvr area and form big parties with people to do huge PvP. It was just fun to play the game. I'll admit that in my 30's I'd grind mobs to get to 40 for terrible embrace as marauder(I mean that move was just damn cool), but hell the grind was nothing compared to XI or XIV. You could hit the level cap in two weeks if you were pretty focused on it. The beauty was that upon hitting the level cap you'd have to work on renown rank to gain more skills/required rank for gear so you weren't actually done leveling, just hit the cap on grinding xp. At this point I didn't need to play countless hours a day. I could just log in to play some scenarios for a bit or do some Orvr, or do an instance with a few friends. 1-3 hours is all I needed to play. Also there was no need to have millions of gold in this game since almost all good gear was Exclusive from instances, or BoE/BoP. So your goal was just to get a group of people and run instances every few days for a chance at gear, or just play Orvr upon which taking a keep would possibly reward you with gear or even just kill other players which upon death they had a chance of dropping gear. It was simple and easy.

Granted as a disclaimer I totally admit that WAR has TONS of flaws with class balancing and simple endgame mechanics which made the game AWFUL if you were on an unbalanced server. I ended up quiting when they announced an expansion would be released before they fixed their current endgame content which was beyond broken at the time. After reading a bit about the game it seems that their player base has taken a massive hit and only four servers remain for NA(though these servers are pretty much full actually increasing the amount of PVP which is a good thing).

Regardless, they had a great idea for a casual game that you could just log in and have FUN. This is something that XIV just doesn't have for me. I have to spend 5+ hours EASILY a leve reset in order to travel to each city and do all the good leves. Most of my time is just spent running around whether it be for doing leves, or meeting up with someone to repair my gear, or repair their gear, or just trade them something; the list goes on. There's no mailbox, no way to get around except for anima which only allows you one port to another region once per RL day(talking 6anima/day regen), heavy focus on crafting(which is just lol to me even though that's how I spent all of my time in game), a more harsh grind than XI, laggy UI, redundant UI, no real player search(this is a MMO?), no real content since you were allowed a quest every 10 ranks per class(hello need to grind for chance at some kinda story involvement), and redundant leves. There simply is no fun in the game for me. I've seen what they plan to do over the next few months(autosort, reduced anima requirement for 3 places of your choosing, NMs, etc) but it's just not enough for me. This is all stuff that should be in the game right now to actually make it fun. It just occurs to me that the only reason I play is to hit level cap, make gil(for what?), and wait for patches to roll through and hopefully fix the game.

I realize this post was full of QQ but it hold some valid points. I really can't see anyone having fun playing the current state of XIV, all "wait for patches" "this is vanilla" "It's not finished" "wait for PS3 release" aside, the game just doesn't offer anything. The only thing I could see as fun is having a few friends that you could party up with, but even then the hate system is buggy and getting random SP after each fight blows. I'm callin it quits and don't plan to come back unless they revamp the entire SP gain for combat classes, overhaul the UI, provide transportation, fix party mechanics, and fix all the stupid lag(give it 1-2 years for all these fixes). Best of luck to you guys who plan to hang on until they fix the game. I hope it's worth the long wait. I'll hold out for some GW2 or another game that actually is worth a monthly fee and fits my playstyle.

Haven't had a single crash since retail launch, just had two in 5 minutes while grinding my lowbie GLD on rats outside Uldah. Happening to anyone else, or is my PC telling me to get some sleep?

I agree. What pisses me off even more, is that even in leves you run more than you fight.

I hate leves with a passion, they're are the most half-assed game mechanic I have ever seen in my life.

I just don't see why they don't have flat base SP amount for killing a monster, and then additional skill-ups for performing actions. That would encourage good players to kill quickly for more SP, while casual players would still get good SP despite killing slowly. It's not that difficult SE.

SP parties are just so boring compared to FFXI, when the challenge of trying to kill as efficiently as possible is removed.

Still happens randomly for me at least, far from how often it happened in beta though, I've had one set of two crashes within one hour, other than that it's been very randomly like 1-2 times a week.

So no, don't go to sleep.

Mine crashed yesterday as soon as I tried to talk to a battle warden NPC. I get frequent crashes in La Noscea and Gridania but almost never anywhere else.

Yeah, a lot of people say the storyline is the best part of the game so far. You'll unlock more main storyline missions at Rank-15, 20, 25, etc. Gotsta' grind.

The walnut trolls are slowly disappearing but now there's an even worse problem with the market wards. People offering 1/10th-1/5th the value of crystals and shards. The scammers are bad enough but now more than half of retainers are set to buy fire/lightning crystals for 500g and earth/wind shards for 50g. It's funny because the serious crafters are the only ones who seem to offer correct prices on crystals/shards.

I wish you could blacklist retainers so it would never load those people on your screen so you don't waste time when you're looking for something. It's fucking ridiculous. Pic related.

I was thinking this exact thing today when I was fed up from checking bazaars that had nothing but requests for shards/crystals for some joke amount. Or repair requests on "weathered" trash.
