You kinda stop missing it after awhile. The urge just... goes away. Don't sweat it; the miracle patch will be out soon enough.

    >implying the "miracle patch" will be anything but a basket full of disappointment and "fixes" that are actually just as bad if not worse than the original problem

My new complaint is that no one uses the party tools in game, and even while in a party my skill gains were low and inconsistent at best.

Consistency, {Can I have it?}
You must be doing something wrong because I could easily complete rank 35 leves when I was 32 for example. Leve synths that require trainings I don't have perhaps a little higher. I didn't want to try them at 31 or 30 but I figure some of the synths would have been successful.

This game isn't really an MMO. It's more like an online RPG that you play with friends. No one gives a shit about anyone outside their linkshell and I've lost count how many times my requests for leve groups/help have been ignored. So yeah, the community is fail in this game and why I couldn't care less if the server population was 50 people or 10000. Nothing would change. Unfortunately my linkshell isn't very active any more due to people quitting so it's hard to get even the most basic shit like rank 30 leves with imps that one shot me done.

Unfortunately this isn't something SE can change, it's just the sad future of MMO gaming. Servers populated by already established guilds from previous games playing in their own tight knit groups and meeting no one new. When FFXI came out I didn't see any of this. All the end-game LSs on my server formed through interaction with randoms, making friends and people leading linkshells for the first time. Sure some of these LSs were flawed or corrupt but that comes with inexperience.

I also cringe at how almost every LS wants you to use vent these days. Like I want to sit and talk on a voice chatroom at 3am in the morning when people are sleeping. There's nothing in this game that should require voice chat and there was nothing in FFXI that required it. Are people incapable of typing these days?

Our LS list has 39 members (99% from our FFXI shell) that started this game. Only about 8-12 of those players still actively sign on.

This game discourages typing and socializing while doing anything.

You have no time to type in party while you constantly have to mash 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, WS, 1, 1, 1....... Not to mention with no way to hold party chat, the battle spam drowns out most of any conversation anyone is trying to have. I mean I guess I like that they are trying something new with the whole stamina/no auto attack but FFXI had it so much better... while in party you could make those bonds that made FFXI so special.

Fair points I guess. The battle system has been a disappointment for me due to having to spam 1. You'd think with so many abilities it wouldn't be like that.

SE did say they plan to allow you to open multiple chat windows so that should solve the battle spam problem. I don't know if it's coming this month, next or further in the future but I read it somewhere.

Yeah I fully expect to have the same options FFXI had (tabs, ability to hold chat) at some point in time, being as the chat interface is damn near identical.

However I don't see them abandoning the battle system design... not that it's a bad thing necessarily, just have to see how they continue to tweak it and balance things, like everything in this game.

FF has the best community out there! What are you talking about? The "strong community" has always been the biggest bragging point of hardcore FF fans.

It seems like the "community" consists entirely within individual shells, like each shell is its own sovereign nation, complete with all of the mutual hatred and mistrust of any other "nation". Its certainly somewhat realistic, though I don't think its ultimately a good thing.

That's a general complaint of MMO's these days for me. They're all designed around being guild-centric and as such there is little interaction between people outside of their guild. WAR may as well not even been an MMO for me for this reason. I guess I'm some kind of weirdo who pines for the old days (OLD days like Gemstone, DragonRealms, and the Big 3) where people actually socialized.

That's my biggest complaint with the game right now. You can fix the interface, you can fix the bugs, you can add content, but you can't fix the community.

Ul'dah repair area is probably the busiest area on my server and not one person responded to my shout of trying to form a leve group. I should just rank up to 30 so I can solo them, but should I have to? I bought FFXIV because it was online with lots of players, I shouldn't have to do everything solo except the least fun part of the game (grinding DoW/M).

Your line was probably ironic but in all honesty, I always valued FF11 community a great deal.

It might sound weird but there is one single thing making the whole difference : how easy it is to chat, and how often you're able to do it.

In FF11 it was so spontaneous to just hit a few key and say "hi" to people; also, the slow battle pace during exp parties made conversations very welcome and it was one of the best little thing I loved about the game. The grind gets boring fast but being able to chat about movies as your character was building tp was priceless, in my opinion.

On the contrary, in WoW (and in FF14) you actually have to start tiping by pressing a key; also, you're required to press a lot more buttons to achieve even the average perform and in the end this dooms any actual change of interaction to other people. You simply have no time and you soon stop caring.
Worst, FF14 terrible UI design forces your chat window to close, reopen, reset so many times I actually forgot about it after a while.

Random SP gains: There is nothing more frustrating in this game than spending two minutes to kill a tough mob in a large, cooperative party and getting 0 SP. There is no reason to have random gains, every other MMO in existence has gotten this right. There absolutely nothing positive about random SP gains.

SP gains per action: This sounds great in theory, but all it does is promote party play to simply be "spam your highest SP gaining action," as somebody else pointed out. See, unlike a lot of others, I very much enjoy the XIV battle and party system. I love the fact that big parties are not only viable but encouraged, because it results in being able to find/make parties easily, and hop in and out of parties with ease. I love the strategy/flow of combat, but I digress, since this is, after all the complaint thread. The problem comes from SP gains coming from actions, and all of the battle strategy goes out the window. Nobody is going to like a super-efficient tank because healers won't get as much SP. DDs may not be as effective as they would otherwise be because they are optimizing their SP gains. For example, I am an Archer, and I find I get better SP from spamming light shot without Raging Strike/Hawk's Eye/Ferocity/etc. because for every action I use that isn't light shot, I'm missing a chance at SP. The battle system in an MMO should reward players for taking down enemies the most efficient way possible, which is not the way it is right now.

I'm confident the UI issues, lack of things to do and some other things bugging me will be resolved in the update and as the game progresses. But the two things I listed above are dealbreakers for me. And, sadly, I don't see either of them being adjusted.

Before this game came out, I feared that I would have had the same complaints I did for XI, but it turns out it's completely different things. And that's what makes it the most frustrating.
Yup, this is literally the game-breaker for me. All they have to do is make DoW/DoM skill gains similar to DoH (i.e. you're guaranteed to get a certain amount of SP within a range at the end of each fight) and I'll sub.

The closest realistic solution about the battle system's "1" spam is waiting for a windower plugin that does that for you (target mob -> press '1' once -> auto-attack till it dies or you perform an other action).
Of course that would actually make your performance worse because of the stamina gauge and lag, but I'd take a faux auto-battle feature over a better performance that doesn't increase my SP/hour ratio anyday.

Reducing your battle performance in FFXI was an unacceptable thought, but this game is so bad to the point I bet that almost every player who is rank 30 or above on a combat class wouldn't think twice about using such a plugin, at least for grinding purposes.

Every once in a while, when I execute my first attack/ability upon approaching a target in Passive Mode, all of my Stamina is immediately drained and nothing happens...

In more detail: I'll walk up to some Dodo or some crap while in Passive Mode. I hit Featherfoot first, as I like to have the evasion bonus and let my stamina come back up a bit before I piss off the Dodo. When I hit Featherfoot, it puts me into Active Mode, as usual, but nothing happens... Then, I see my Stamina drop to nothing and start building back up from there.

Does anyone else get that crap?

Also, spamming "1" is not the best way to get skill. At least not for melee classes. Higher damage = potentially higher skill gains.

Fair enough, I do miss autoattack from FFXI but how SP works right now you'd see a pretty bad drop in your SP gain doing nothing but auto attacking. The initial buffed up Multishot and the WSes landed afterwards are basically my greatest assets in getting a large SP pool by the end of the fight.

Grinding is boring, yes, but I wouldn't want to make leveling take twice as long using such a plugin.

Even when I'm on my computer I lack the urge... I don't even really look at the damn icon anymore. So glad I didn't buy any time for this game. I have no faith in SE's patches. Patching stuff that should have been there in the first place does not make you a good company.

I get this shit too when I pop speed surge sometimes. I wonder if its a bug where if you self buff it does it on occasion. It doesnt do it enough to really piss me off, as I only see it maybe once or twice a day, but it annoys me whenever it happens because I have to go back into passive mode and wait for my stamina bar to reset.

Happens to me alot on CON If I start with a spell or ability. Example: I run up, start with an AoE(nuke or buff, dont matter), my character just stands there, then POOF, stamina bar is gone, wait for it to fill, THEN it starts casting. If its an aggroable mob, I'm half dead by that time. It only happens at the start of the fight.
