    Theorycrafting

    Ok I wanted to make this thread to try to make a big more sense about crafting in general.

    It seems there are 3 major aspects to a synthesis process; materials, parts, and finished products.

    While currently most crafters try to do all three things at the same time, in the end I think it'll be better to focus on one of these things only. Simply because to get most out of a single aspect of crafting you need to get different abilities and training, and if you want to do more than that (basically the whole synthesis process all by yourself) it will be a huge ordeal, and not likely worth it.

    So basically I was thinking that if we try to focus on one aspect instead of trying to do it all by ourselves, it might be a good idea to mention that in the crafter thread too.

    Say, if someone is looking for Leatherworking parts he knows who does those kind of synthesis. Now it's more like everyone is just "leatherworker" in general but that doesn't really tell us that much in the end. Also gatherers could post here too, because crafters making materials will probably need to know who to buy the ingredients from.

    Maybe it's too early for this kind of specialization yet, I don't know. I'm sure people would like to buy the parts directly and make equipment that way, especially if it requires some other craft than your own.

    I'm almost lvl 11 Blacksmith now and it is getting apparent that I should focus on one craft with the amount of exp/time it consumes.
    Working with others is a necessity in this game if you're trying to make anything. For example, there is a hammer that is lvl 5 recipe for blacksmithing but requires a lvl 20+ cloth for the handle. Almost every single tool I ran I was trying to make requires something fairly high level from other crafts making it very difficult to complete when you trying to do it all by yourself.
    I wish there would be some kind of community forum with list of crafters.

    Me too. Not everyone visit BG so it's kind of useless right now.

    The only solution I could come up with for short term is to make a linkshell with crafters and gatherers that can work together. You can control what is sold and where that way too, at least in theory.

    I agree, I romanticize about a system like this but am skeptical it will work out in practice. I wish the lodestone would display the level of the character's craft when searching on their site.

    Yeah it's a shot in the dark but I'll give it a go anyways.

    I think the lodestone shows all the leveled classes, under the Character Profile page. Not sure if that's what you mean.

    Yeah it does, but that would require a fair amount of clicking. Finding the person, click on their name, click on profile, maybe their craft is high enough level, if not go onto next person. It would be awesome if I could just search for X class of Y level.. although I better not wish for that, or they may never implement a search feature in game

    I noticed a heavy increase in failure while approaching rank13 - anyone else noticing the same?

    Asuran armguards don't given any bonuses beyond rank 10. If you haven't gotten a new tool or crafting gear, your stats are probably too low by then to synth properly

    I finally managed to pump out couple of Bronze Doming Hammers (armorer lvl 7 tool) and the guy I sold it too was saying it worked alot better than weathered.

    OK, I only started to try crafting in retail, and it's pretty cool and all but...

    What the colors mean during synthesis is seriously killing me.

    Is it this template:

    White = Most Stable
    Yellow = Stable
    Red = Less Stable
    Multicolour = Unstable

    or is it:

    White = Standard/Rapid
    Gold = Bold
    Red = Rapid
    Multicolour = Bad

    Has it changed from the Open Beta? Hm...

    There's also that concept of listening to the humming or something. A lot of the info I found was on this blog here:

    http://ffxiv.nerve-gaming.net/?p=1054

    Just which is the right answer anyway?

    The 1000 gil support is contraproductive in lower levels - for ~15ish the 200gil standard support works best. Tested for about an hour >_>

    My experience suggest to me that its White->Yellow->Red in terms of stability, with multi-blinking falling on some side of yellow that I'm not sure about. I don't think its worse than red.

    Honestly I just use standard until it blows then use wait few times when it does blow. Yellow too me seems less stable than red now in retail; * They always change something between versions *

    I did notice that if you get one blow and don't wait you can get into a chain blow up and you fail.

    I am not even seeing a reason to use Standard ever. Riding the rapid train seems much more beneficial from what I've noticed and I have two crafts (arm14, LW12).

    Maybe if you're trying to HQ something and are afraid to use bold, using standard would work the best, but for skillups I nearly always do rapids.

    Sometimes though, it seems that some synths just like standard more, like ring/chain synths in Armory. I fucking hated those. Botched probably like 50% of the synths even when few levels above the recommended, with rapid naturally. Then I switched to using standard mostly (rapids with blinding speed only) and it seemed to do the trick. I think we had to test out shit more than we think.
