good loa man strat to farm Iktomi. Also, I haven't seen much strat on the moth for the visions or w/e for head seals for sam. I'm not even sure what drops the items for the sam +2 legs.
I use /nin, but you could certainly do it /sch. Macc isn't an issue though, so you're probably better off just using /nin so you don't have to either cast ss/cures, or spend more time trying to time your nukes perfectly so you don't get hit. Honestly, with 23/tic refresh now, i think i may just forget /sch for solo, since the mp savings are useless, and the other benefits are almost just as meaningless (unless you need more macc, but you generally shouldn't).
Confused, how are you dealing with pets?Lowman JoL:
BLU/PLD MNK/NIN DRG/NIN BRD/WHM WHM/SCH THF/NIN
Y/N? Improvements to this setup? Is a dedicated tank even necessary at 85 or should I take RDM instead?
DDs kill pets.
EDIT2: Disregard initial edit, BLU/RDM caps SS and from there I'd honestly prefer to take the job I'm more comfortable with for the time being.
Seems very risky imo, especially since his aoe still deal decent dmg if DD take hate and would hurt only healer's mp. There is potential of being one shotted by pets if they catch you at the wrong moment. However, BLU can still deal dmg while tanking JOL, i've done over 1k+ when I tanked on my blu with CA+Efflux QC which would be better overtime than a RDM tank.
Edit: I tanked it on BLU/RDM.
BLMs in our LS have a distinct problem of aga'ing pets, so we choose to just skip them altogtether~
Banking on a mix of conservative play, VE decay from killing pets, and Accomplice/Collaborator to keep hate off the MNK. DRG obviously has jumps to deal with hate. Risk of 1hko is definitely what I'm most worried about but I'm willing to bank on a capped Stoneskin (BLU/RDM instead of BLU/PLD) and PDT gear for the time being. If I can get a backup tank so much the better; I'm just trying to find the minimum right now as I'm not sure what I'll have to work with. The ability to contribute some damage is definitely something to keep in mind.
Also this.
I would suggest added more support, at least a RDM to refresh2/back up cure/maybe hold pets and another DD of sorts, maybe another BLU to flashga the phuabo and hold them off tank. BLU does very good dmg vs JOL now with QC and new spells and could also assist with support for mnk and drg. If you aren't using someone to hold pets, they will just end up beating on tank which isn't the best idea. Brd probably could hold them with that setup with SS and pdt gear I guess.
What are you talking about with holding? JoL starts summoning -> DDs disengage -> BRD Diagas pets -> DDs each kill a pet -> reengage JoL -> repeat. Not looking to have them on anybody except DDs for any significant amount of time.
Yes someone to grab them so they aren't beating on tank, changed post to brd holding them. I still would suggest another support imo.
Could probably field a second healer one way or another, will see about additional DD if I can. Thanks for the input.
This question has been asked before I'm sure, but I couldn't find an appropriate solution in my searching: I'm installing FFXI from scratch on a new computer. I download the Win7 PoL client from SE's site, then install FFXI and the expansions from my old discs. I fire up PoL and it immediately checks for updates (PoL viewer updates, not to the login screen yet). It updates, and restarts, but when it does it can't restart, citing a missing file and it tells me to reinstall PoL. After uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, its gotten quite old.
Is this just a permissions problem? I have McAfee Security Center of my new machine but I've given PoL full access in the firewall. I originally tried to take the shortcut of installing PoL/FFXI and then copying my entire PoL folder over from my old computer. This allowed me to start up PoL and go through my login, but as soon as it tries to log in, PoL simply freezes/crashes with no message given as to why. There were also times earlier where it would say 'polhook.dll was unable to be overwritten', though the last few times after updating PoL it simply crashes on restart, going straight to the message 'a file is missing, reinstall PoL'. I've tried restarting my machine at various points through the install/update cycle, but that hasn't seemed to help.
I've read around and people mentioned polhook.dll.tmp not properly overwriting the original, but I search and can't find even the .tmp file. I've also read about McAfee giving false positives for some FFXI files, but that doesn't seem to be the case here (though it may still be related to my security software). So while I'm sure this question has been asked before, I've wasted enough time trying to do this solo, and could use some advice from someone more fluent in these issues.
How does Magnus Toprock compare to other GAs, both Magin and non-Magin (i.e. Vermeil Bhuj)?
Not really sure why you are having issues. I just built a system, installed Win7, did a full system/OS/driver update and installed FFXI. The difference between us is that I went to gamestop and bought the FFXI ultimate edition for $9.99, because I lost my original game disc somehow. Installed with no issues, downloaded Windower and installed and am using with no issues.
The small bit of advice I have is what others posted, or what SE requests you to do:
1.) Disable any firewall/anti-virus while installing and updating. Giving POL/FFXI full permissions is not the same as disabling them.
2.). Right-click on the POL icon, go to properties, then Compatability tab, and check the box for "Run as Administrator". Same for Windower if you use it.
Good luck and enjoy your 7hr update (was for me at least)
This has probably been asked before but whats a good low man setup for Ovni?
2 rdms.
