So it is doubtful that anyone really gives half a shit, as proven by the lack of interest in the genre/sport compared to most others on the board... but after some decent time with both games I have to say that PES is really an improvement over the last one that I played. I think that the last one that I gave a good long look at was PES 09. I skipped 10 after hate hate hating the demo last year, and was later told that it was actually not bad.

Either way, really having a lot of fun with PES 2011. I have a very well done Option File loaded adding all of the missing teams/kits in and have even added real chants to all the English Premier League teams, and will probably add chants to the La Liga teams as well. Mode wise I have spent the most time in Be A Pro just like I did in 2009 as the team AI is really just worlds ahead of the Become a Legend AI in FIFA. I can't even begin to say how much I hate my teammates in FIFA's BaL... so bad.

Anyway, just curious if anyone else has spent any significant amount of time with PES this year? Also, if anyone has the US version and would like the Option File, I used this one from Mrgametight over at PESgaming. The chants are simply MP3 files, so version doesn't matter, but i grabbed those from PESFan here. Also just noticed that a user has a bunch of Adboards you can download and add, though the ones i have seen that are just default are good enough for me.

Thanks for the chants, didn't have those and that's something PES should really add to the game in the first place. I did the same as you, played the hell out of PES 09, only played PES 10 for a short while and was underwhelmed, then picked up both FIFA 11 and PES 11 this year. Overall I still like PES better, but damn I end up playing FIFA more just because it's more accessible when it comes to playing with others. It seems like finding people to play FIFA with is easy and when I want to play PES it seems most don't want to play or if they do they just bitch about how it's not FIFA. Also the computer in PES is pretty rough this year, but I'm catching on.

I wrote a pretty detailed review and comparison of the two games a couple weeks ago so not going to get into it too much, but if anyone wants to read it feel free...

I don't normally play sports games. I bought FIFA 11 on a lark, and by god, Virtual Pro mode is fucking amazing. I don't know how long they've been doing this, but more sports games should.

For one thing, the character creation screen puts RPGs to shame; I spent more time here than on things like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I love that I can determine what type of player he is. I love that I can even assign the announcers to say his god damn name.

I love that he can get traded to different clubs, and attain different ranks. Midway through the season, my dude was promoted to captain. I thought that was the coolest thing ever until at the end of the season, he became a motherfucking legend. And then got three offers from clubs in Barclay's.

The lack of the J-League is highly amusing, if not immediately noticeable.

It's not a great game though. The lack of anything World Cup-related is an extremely bad choice, I imagine imposed by FIFA so they can sell it as a "game" every four years. The fact that my Virtual Pro can't partake in the World Cup is absolutely bullshit.

Virtual Pro also isn't seamlessly integrated into the game. You can create a "virtual pro" and take them through a career, unlocking power-ups and further design choices, or you can... create a character in "Career Mode", which has limitless stat points and design choices. Like, why bother with one or the other? Locking improvements + design choices through achievements is really quite the barrier, especially when there's a mode when you can just simply play with all of them anyway.

There's also a shitton of bugs and errors. On more than one occasion, the announcers have called the end of the game as "The end of the first half". I'm also pretty sure that my dude's chin strap facial hair doesn't show up on the model.

It's a fun game nonetheless though, even with its more traditional modes. Someone shoved an RPG in my sports sim, and I'm totally okay with that.

You should check out PES, it has a better "virtual pro" mode imo and you can actually play in the Euro and World Cup.

Alright, I've PESed it up a bit.

Overall, I like FIFA better. It seems so much more crisp to me, as well as thorough.

PES really does win out in the virtual pro/be a legend department though. While disappointing I can't get the (horrible) announcers to say my avatar's name, there is a lot more in terms of managing him that I can do which I really enjoy.

If the two of them could just mush together both really awesome aspects of their games...

I'm gonna play some PES more, see if my opinion changes any as I get better at it.
