internet radio surround sound hook up

Ok so i love pandora and I was wondering what the most efficient way to get it running threw my surround sound would be. Atm i have a ps3, 360, laptop, and desktop. Laptop is ancient and doesn't have any HDMI hook ups so figure its completely out. I was thinking Ps3 just using the internet but seems like a hassle turning it on and putting hours on it just for radio, prefer pc. Would connecting the desktop and receiver via HDMI cable work? or would it kill the video feed to the monitor? Also the desktop is bout 30-40 feet from the reviver so i would need a long cord, probably 50ft scene nothing i've found is between 25 and 50. any suggestions on some good cheep ones? I've been looking at monoprice also whats male to male or male to female about?

Connecting the desktop to the receiver should technically work. The only issues I'm unsure of if you can only force audio through HDMI, without video. If not, you'd probably have to mess around with the dual-monitor setup, and make it so that your monitor is your primary display, while making sure audio goes out through your video card, instead of your sound card. I'm assuming your video card has two DVI ports? Also depending on how old it is, it may not have an embedded sound chip, so you may not be able to output audio through it.

You will likely need a male-to-male cable, male-to-female seems to be used for extending an existing cable if I'm not mistaken. You can go that route if you just wish to extend an existing cable. Monoprice has 35' cables, but they're a bit more expensive since they're higher gauge. Check here.
