Anyone out there will all mage stats try leveling a melee? I'd like to rank up pug to break horns/play my lancer possibly, but I have all my stats in Vit/Mnd/Pie/Int and don't want to reallocate them. How bad is the gimpage from those stats being sub 50?

I was at max STR/DEX/VIT for my PGL, and reallocated down to about 95 STR/DEX/VIT and up to 60 or so for INT/MND/PIE so I could take THM and CON up to 20 real quick. I noticed a pretty decent jump in difficulty on PGL by coming down from the caps by about 20 attributes each.

However, if you're starting out a melee from Rank-1, you could just do 1 reallocation to bump up STR/DEX way above the caps for your melee well into the teens. Playing a rank-10+ melee solo is going to be pretty rough without reallocating a little bit... and being capped out from Rank-1 will make you way overpowered when you start out. When you're done with playing melee for the day, reallocate back into mage stats. I think that's how they imagined it would work... it just sucks when you want to bounce around between a number of classes for their leves and don't want to be stuck with one discipline per big chunk of the day.

Do you need a brand new retail disc to install XIV if you already have an S-E account and whatnot, or can you install with a borrowed disc? I'd like to pick XIV up for a bit, but I just got canned from work and if I can get out of paying for a new disc that'd be nice.

Is FFXIV registered on your SE account?
You need a registration code, buddy pass or retail. As for the disk, torrent/borrow works.

Then you need to find a buddy pass, asking around should get you one...maybe

Huge gimpage if you reallocate nothing. I had default STR on my archer until rank 10 when I did a reallocate. My damage almost doubled by capping STR. Since I was physical 50 one reallocation lasted me until like rank 20. But that's because even my CNJ played with high DEX due to goldsmithing.

I don't bother trying to switch back to CNJ now, it's just too much effort with reallocating. It's bad enough only being able to do it once per hour, but having to click that + about 200 times per reallocation is a pain in the ass too. SE should allow you to save stats per class, there's no reason not to. All the reallocate system does is force you into one discipline for longer than you want.

Yea I'm level 50 too with a 33 thm and all crafts 20+. I think I have around 40 str/dex and everything else is high(110 vit, 100 mnd/pie, 90 int). Reallocating is not really feasible since I pop from crafting class to crafting class and back to thm so much in one day. And like you said, hitting all those points over and over is just stupid. I hope they save it per class soon since it's keeping me from actually 'playing all classes' like they intended you to do.

Think you can do it every 15min or 30min actually, but yaaaaa, it's more trouble than it's worth. Never had a prob with it focusing on arm/tan/lnc....till I started messing around with cnj/thm and really enjoyed them. There's no feasible way for me to rank those up beyond 20 without either gimping up stats, or wasting a bunch of time reallocating. Guess versatility is frowned upon.

Which is silly because their whole 'system' was being able to change classes on the spot. They failed to mention "picking classes that use the same stats". Although waaaaaay back before beta I remember reading a scenario written by SE saying player X was playing LNC until some friends wanted him to go play with them but they were higher level than his LNC. So he equipped his scepter and was thaum and was ready to play with them since his thaum was higher level. Something to that extent. The fatigue system is something else that also 'pushes' you to play other classes. Hopefully they'll just allow you to set stats for each class and have them saved down the road, it's really the only way this will work or you'll always be limited to playing the same few classes that share stats.

They arnt gonna let you save stats per job. It would kind of defeat the purpose of letting you stat the way you want.

Even tho they want you to to be versitile at what jobs you want to play, the intent is to focus on 1 main job or discipline and use the other jobs within that discipline to enhance the main. Stats on crafting jobs is only for HQ rate. If you just want to lv all crafts to 20-30 I doubt you are gonna HQ anything significant to warrant high stats.

I feel people want crafting jobs to not be a job but a side skill like it was in FFXI. There is no way they designed this game so that everyone can have the best stats for all jobs at 50. There would be no career crafters since any DoW can switch to a DoH and instantly have maxed stat for those jobs.

Someone who is career DoW should not be better than someone who is career DoM nor DoH. Thats how it should be. They invest more time and stats to enhancing those disciplines.

Reallocating stats isnt that bad and stats in general doesn't mean much at this point in the game, but I do agree they need a faster way to add points or actually let you choose which stats to lower.
If you plan on playing multiple disciplines at once, i suggest you don't super stack any stat beyond 100 ( or 80 even ) or acquire the stat conversion abilities.
Everyone should have VIT at 80 regardless by the time you're physical lv 50 just for general survivability.

The game lacks content in which you need to make use of the class change function, and the macro system is also too ineffective for changing classes fast enough. It's gotta work more like paradigm shift ;o.

True, but what they can do is have a nicer way of pre-setting what stats you want to have for any particular job. It doesn't need to be a full reset and allocation, but there's no reason it couldn't take the same number of points out, and apply them towards the other stats you want to pump up in a pre-determined way. Instead of the click fest it is now, it could take a simple 5 seconds to do.

Honestly if you can't save stats per class the whole stat system is just stupid. This makes the whole combat system completely limiting to either DoM or DoW. In XI I could play blm, rdm, rng, war; it didn't matter because when I changed class I changed stats. So right now with THM at 33, I could drop PIE/MND/INT 20~ points each and boost my STR/DEX to 60+ so I could play a melee to 20 without having gimped stats. Now when I play THM I get even more resists applying debuffs or lower returns on siphon mp because I wanted to play another class. What am I supposed to do when I get a DoW to 30+? Have all stats at 80 so I'm not specialized in anything but can play everything 'okay'? I'm sorry, but that just makes the game far too limiting from my point of view. Guild mark abilities to convert stats are also void in my perspective when you're limited to the number you can use. Firm conviction, fast cast, fleet of foot; all stuff I use on my mage right now, and if I had rng at 20 I'd use the enmity -10 as well. There's not enough room to slot three conversion traits(which you also need a rank 30 DoW/M and 12k guild marks to purchase each) and also use other traits as well. The system, like 90% of every other system in game, is poorly thought out and flawed. Being able to save them per class is really the only way to 'customize' your class without gimping everything else you could play. Otherwise they might as well just use XI's system of static stats per class.

You're right, months of meriting to optimize a single class is much better than the inconvenience of reallocating your stat points towards multiple roles.

Oh boy... as if they aren't going to add something like merits to this game.
I'll believe it in a few years if it doesn't happen.

How long did it take them to add merit points to FFXI?

Wasn't it a solid year or so after they raised the cap to 75?

more than 5 years for sure.

i started few months after NA launch and level cap had only recently been raised to 75, NA launch was almost 2 years after the game had been released in japan for ps2 i think.

FFXIV still has a LONG LONG way to go. Everyone is complaining so much, but every MMO that i played on release sucked hard for the first year or so. Be glad that servers arent crashing and there arent many known dupe/xp/gil exploits like it happened with almost any other MMO out there.

The servers seem to be partially crashing, actually. Enough to cause some murmur.
