The question about merit points interested me, since I knew for sure 5 years was way off the mark.
Here are the June 29, 2004 update notes, less than a year after NA release and about 6 months after level cap was increased to 75.

lol. Really? So the fact that I can change classes in under a second(depending on lag) is tied to the fact I'm allowed to reallocate SOME stats every hour and that's ok(not to mention that it's the SAME amount from each stat every time, so each reset I can't get back exactly what I had last time)? And the annoyance of resetting 168 stat points and 198 element points every time I want to play a class post 20 is totally like less annoying than grinding at 75, the level cap, to further increase your class because you've nothing left to xp it towards. Oh I totally get it, thanks a lot for helpin me out with this one.

I see a stat allocation argument incoming /grin

From what I've noticed, it all comes down to how SE handles the whole situation in the future. If they are inspired by XI, they'll make precautions that alts won't become an effective workaround to leveling multiclass characters... and also make sure that multiclass characters are more effective than single class ones with optimized stats for majority of the game's content.

Which is not the case right now, but it can be. Macro system needs serious tweaking, content does not encourage using the system to your advantage, et cetera. But in the end I'd just lump it down to "features that do not work as designed, but will be taken care of in lieau of changing other shit".

If they scrapped the system entirely (which is what they should do if they were to change it drastically), with these mechanics single class people would become total gimps. You either perform equally with everyone else sometimes, or you perform worse most of the time. Obviously time = reward and those who level more classes should come ahead, but it makes the game even more hardcore than it is now. You either level many classes to cap or you're a laughstock of the community. Either way if they properly deal with this system multiclass people are always going to come ahead, just not as much and single class people still have a slight advantage in limited amount of situations.

Speculation: We will get at most a pat on the back post about the survey and how it will take some time while they calculate the responses and they have big things in store so please look forward to it.

I will be astonished if we get anything more than that.

I'm inclined to agree. It will probably be similar to the non-update we got on 1/1.

I'm just starting out on 14, so obviously I have a lot of questions. Tried perusing the forums a bit but I'm still pretty lost on what everything does. Hoping there's a link or something that I can use to help me find the answer to a lot of my questions:

What do elemental resistances do exactly? Anything more then resist dmg of that type?

I'm leveling Lancer, maybe Archer, Carpentry, Alchemy, and Leatherworking. Should I spread my stats out to benefit all that, or just focus on War stats?

On that note, how helpful are the base stats for crafting in general?

VIT is the most important stat imo.

stats are helpful in crafting after rank20, before doesnt matter much i think, if you craft enough, you will be physical 50 very quickly and have all your stats over 60, so you can raise any class to 20 very easy with almost max stats on every rank.

elemental resistance makes you get more crystals, resist spells and helps crafting, there is a post on lodestone about that.

Okay, so what exactly does gear damage do?

I have a copper wristlet at 0%, yet it still gives me all the stats. I haven't really noticed much difference in terms of general gameplay..

You take more damage, that's about it.

Weapons lose accuracy and possibly damage output when damaged.

weapons lose damage output and possible accuracy is more like it.

at 0-25% you do half or less damage, 25-50% seems 25% less dmg.

same thing probably goes for armor, but harder to calculate because its several pieces, just never let your body armor and legs goes to less than 25% and you should be ok.

I thought only less than 50% had any effect on stats?

Has anyone been getting disconnected from the server a lot lately?

EDIT: Actually after testing, I'm assuming it's my ISP or my modem about ready to kick the bucket.

When it comes to hate can anyone give me some tips on how you keep multiple mobs on you? I'm not talking something big like the minions on NMs like Mosshorn or the Ahriman, but to keep a group of about 2-3 leve mobs on me at a time.

Don't provoke first action, have taunt if you can so you can do both on different mobs, and generally just use those abilities when the mobs lose attention. Use whatever enmity skills you have and keep wailing on shit.

It can depend on your mages/party as well, but generally if you keep on top of voke/taunt, you should be fine.

Thanks, and just since I'm curious what JAs do GLDs have to keep about 5+ mobs on them? I seen the fights for a few NMs and curious about the hate management for that.

Do GLDs still use spells like Poison, spikes, cure, etc to hold hate on multiple leve mobs at all or did they nerf hate on those? I too had been wondering about the multiple mobs thing (I don't play DoW much at all).

War Drum is the big one, R30 sentinel. Intimidation trait from MRD helps too (working on this now). I use Provoke and Cure II primarily, and soon I'll throw in Siphon-MP for assisting hate management. In my observation, Aegis Boon II pulls a noticeable amount of hate as well.

I also hear Raging Strike does the trick as well.

As for multiple mobs, that's just not GLA's forte. Doable but not ideal at this point. Gotta be Onion Knight for that!
