When you EXP with gear you gain a "spiritbond" on it (The bar on the item window). Once the spiritbond is full you can convert it to materia.

Materia can be attached to other weapons/armor assuming it can fit the slot (Slots materia can fit on are shown in the materia's description).

how do i convert the dated gear to materia? Does the items need to be 100%?

Yes, there's a little animation and a notice in the log when a piece reaches 100% the swirly icon next to the gauge will spin. Dated gear and new gear are converted the same way, you just can't put materia into dated gear.

Ra/Ex gear can't be converted or socketed.

There is a quest that you need to do that teaches you all about materia. Until you do the quest, you aren't able to break items into materia, although the spiritbond gauge can still increase. IIRC the quest is near the chocobo stables in Ul'dah and you need Lv18 to do it. It'll guide you to a goblin in Thanalan and a short series of quests there teach you how to turn items into materia and attach the materia to other items.

Before i took a break harlequin armor are great for THM but apparently it is not anymore? What are the gears that THM and CON are using nowadays? Is it still advisable to carry around all the different elemental wands for different spells?

Things may have changed, but parley on that mission would get easier if you were a higher rank. I think I went back at something like 42 and didn't have a difficult time with it at all. (You still may want to try to pick tiles near the bottom that will refill the board faster, though).

I dont know if the recent updates changed it, but there were peistes in Thanalan, one that wandered near the entrance to Ul' Dah and then some more northeast and east of the lvl 1 aetherite. If I remember right they were lvl 30-40ish mobs.

Felt Gear with good materia on it. And if you are doing something that you nuke on then the wands are actually more helpful now, but I can't think of an event where CONs nuke.

also, get Felt Bliaud (Brown), Felt Cavalier's Hat (Brown) or Felt Hat (Red), and Felt Gaskins (Brown). Hands aren't good for DoM. I use Boarskin Ringband of Storms for hands (under armbands in the wards), though there are boarskin ringbands for all the elements, and there is a Sorcerer's Ringband that I hear drops from a copper chest in Zaharak.

Is there a place I could go to farm a lot of Bomb Ash easily as a Lv38 LNC? Been looking ahead on BSM and it looks like I'm gonna need quite a few of them to make Steel Ingots pretty soon.

In Nanawa Mines theres lv 30 Balloons scattered around and around center of the map theres a hall or 2 that contains groups of Bomb Embers about 30ish they also for a quest from Limsa "Have you seen my son?" so two birds one stone~

There are also lv25 bombs if you want easier kills in NW portion of western thanalan.

Is there some ancient Chinese secret to prevent WS/attack animations from causing Steadfast to drop or is it just shitty design.

Or even better, when Steadfast activates in the middle of an animation and stops it midway through, moving your character 2 inches forward and canceling itself. That's just priceless.

Steadfast is just retarded mechanics, period. I just play without using it, and when I actually do stand around long enough for it to activate it's just icing on the cake.

I asked this a few pages ago, but didn't see an answer. Is BG going to do any kind of BG-Wiki for XIV early since the current websites available are pretty bad? Eorzapedia is currently the best resource I can find, but that still leads to a lot of holes more oft than not.

Best database I've seen is Moogle Box, but as for your question nobody said anything about a new wiki.
