Gosh, I hope that's not a minority opinion. The smaller the group, the more difference a single person makes. I like knowing that I was an integral part of the success of the group.

I had way more fun low-manning stuff in XI than I did 18+ manning sky shit.

Never liked large group content in MMO's. So I hope you get the option to do the future end game stuff with a 8 man group.

I don't think we need things like 36+ man content like Dynamis and Einherjar, but for a brand new MMO capping at 8 just feels too small and that lack of ability to group two parties together is frustrating as well. I think 16 would be a fine cap, or something setup like Limbus where you could enter with 1 or 18 but it was doable with a range of people depending on the skill set of them.

I liked doing lowman stuff as well when I went back to XI during the Abyssea era, but I also liked having the option of bringing much more than the core 6 of us as well as other friends came back. Right now we have to constantly rotate members for something like Ifrit, when it would be much easier to just be able to take the 14~16 of us who want to go and deal with a difficulty increase if they needed to scale it to accommodate more members. I certainly don't hope they do away with single party content, but when I do events I'd like to have the option to do it with more than 7 of my friends. If that means it needs to be harder, but offer the same chances at rewards, I'm fine with that.

Maybe it's silly, I don't know, I just really liked the grouping aspect of XI and I feel it's lacking here.

*Guess I should point out that I understand the population is small at the moment and it may not make sense to accommodate larger groups, but I think if they want a successful relaunch at 2.0 the option for larger groups should be there.

I can't see a mmo without large-scale end game battles (16-20 person raids) doing too well. Aion comes to mind actually... too much 6-man content in that game and that was a deterrant. In TOR there is 8 too, but at least the option for 16 man content is there. Really though the content just needs to be a lot deeper rather than largely-scaled at this point. I like little battlefields here and there, but this isn't end game. Casual guilds clear this stuff pretty easy and so do PUGs.

I have to agree with Taco, 16 would be a good cap for stuff. Never really liked huge Dynamis runs. For the moment I'm contempt with a cap at 8 but would like to a see a raid in the future where you need two parties for. Also agreeing with you that at it's current state the game is a little to under populated to actually have a big group type content.

Also I want HNM! Please don't hurt me.

The way the claim system works essentially makes open-world large-scale content a dead end at the moment as you could hypothetically have the whole server killing the same mobs. (Disclaimer: Unless you design a superboss (Odin?) with this in mind I guess. But that's a whole can of worms and claim wars we might not need yet.)

A meaty-content instance geared towards 2-3 parties' worth of people could be interesting(/necessary) but that would possibly require some additional UI and system tweaking unless you're fine with not seeing "alliance" HP bars. My hopes aren't that high until 2.0 though on this front; Hamlet Defense may be able to nail large scale, but doubtful it will be rewarding on the personal level.

I never liked overly large group events, 6-man salvage where if any one person wasn't on the ball shit could go bad or at least cost a completion and/or target mob was much, much more fun than being 1 of a billion people in dyna/ein mindlessly mobbing assist target after assist target.

When you have so many people that no 1 person really matters it makes things less fun to me I guess.

Also I can't even imagine the lag you'd get with a large group event in XIV, XI was bad enough at times.
Your post implies that more than 6 people were doing their shit properly in Dynamis. I remember doing all the sleeping, stunning while maintaining the best dps way more often than I would have liked.

But yeah, I agree. Challenging lowman content blow anything out of the water. They just have to make it so that specific classes aren't systematically excluded from it.

I know what you mean about dynamis, but it was really a contest of who was willing to pay attention for X hours of monotony.

Which isn't to say it didn't involve strategy and skill (I ran dynamis with some incredibly experienced people back then, dyna really hinged on pullers and sleepers, those "6 people") but for melees like I was, all things being equal, the top DD was who could stay engaged* in the event after so much repetition.

    *no pun intended

I wasn't disagreeing! The monotony in Dyna was terrible on certain jobs (especially melee). No events should be designed around 5-6 players and 30 fillers, every participant should be needed.

About poor performance, I think players were just bad all across the board in FFXI. End game was infiltrated with casual players who never cared about their own performance, and it was easy to see in more casual event like Dynamis.

As boring as BLM was at time, I never got bored in dynamis because of that. There was so much you could do to help your group you never had any downtime. Sleeping (and soloing) ninja and smn away from the group, sleeping huge link and logging out to reset aggro, keeping everything asleep, tanking (because blm/nin was the only way to play blm!).

I always felt bad for whoever went BLM to dynamis. They either A. got yelled at if one thing went wrong, even if they did everything right up to that point. B. got yelled at regardless. Was so easy as DD, hit an assist macro and afk until dead.

You just need to preemptively yell at someone else before you get yelled at! This is the way of mmo.

I guess I was lucky with that however, I never had to put up with retarded nazi raid leader. Or maybe it was because I have absolutely no tolerence for anyone who take the game too seriously and avoid them like plague...I don't know.

Shit not me, I loved going blm, especially in beau. glacier, someone you can't stand gets charmed by the orcs, commence shock and awe.

The opposite of that was always fun. I loved mauling people who failed to sleep my MNK lol. Killing people on BLM was better, but at least when you're charmed and killing people no one can blame you.

I remember every beau run was revenge time back in the day. As we get to the charm NM someone would ever so subtly back off out of charm range ("brb") with TP stored up.

    Then a charm happens.

Then this happens (pic is ancient, hadn't even changed my name yet)

Ah, memories, I did manage to live tho (with 100< hp left).
