Then i hit 21 and my chains slowed down, going 20% 25% 30%, and i would only get 550-600xp for completing the level, 3 leves in a row. Whats up with that? the mobs i were fighting were still higher level than me, so why would it suddenly give me half?

also several times the game would randomly tell me not to change my job or it may kill my xp, but i never attempted to change x.x
It might depend on the leve you're doing. You get an exp bonus for the number of links, so if you went from a leve where the monsters were grouped in 3s, then you did leves where they were in groups of 2 (or not grouped at all), you would see less bonus exp per kill.

Though... I can't recall if leve-grouped monsters give the link bonus, so I could be completely wrong. Also, you're obviously going to get less exp every time you level up if the monsters' levels don't change, but the exp bonus modifier shouldn't be affected by that.

I think my explanation is wrong, since you're also mentioning the completion reward, which should be completely unaffected by anything but the difficulty level and speed of completion. Were you in a group? You'll get less exp if you leve-share as opposed to leve-link, but that wouldn't affect your exp per kill. Very strange indeed.

its not that the xp per kill changed, its that the xp chain bonus xp doesnt grow as fast as it did the day before. id fully expect the xp to drop a little, but not the chain bonus. and i was solo, but one of them in particular i finished rather quickly because the mobs were weak to fire x.x. mobs were 1 level over me, got a chain 5, finished in about 3 minutes, but recieved 550ish xp. maybe its because i should be in horizon at lv.20? i wouldnt think this would matter

I haven't done many (any?) leves 10+ levels over the recommended level, so perhaps they've implemented an exp penalty for doing so in order to "encourage" you to move onto the next camp. I know you take a small exp hit if you do them under the required level, so I wouldn't be surprised if this existed.

You should definitely be in Horizon though. 1-star starts mobs at lv20 there, so you could have started there at 18ish (give or take a level -- idk CON's solo proficiency anymore).

Once you're 11 levels above the starting level for the camp, the completion exp nosedives at least.

I noticed it the other day that as soon as soon as I hit x1 level then the completion bonus was halved despite mobs being higher level than me. It does give you a warning about it though.

hmm i didnt notice it telling me that, several times it would tell me not to change jobs though for pretty much no reason. But thanks for the heads up, i figured as long as the mobs were still higher level than me then it should have been fine. good thing i pretty much wasted 3 leves. so glad theres a RQT for this game, i was starting to think that no community gave enough of a damn about the game.

edit: right now my 21 con is my highest level, i intent to take it to 22 for choco, then level a DoW to 50 asap for prime battles etc. Anny reccomendations or jobs i should avoid? i was thinking lnc->drg or gla->pld, gladiator seems like a BAMF at soloing. also, is behest worth doing still?

Ohhhh so that's why that warning pops up. Holy shit they could have worded that warning better. Every time I've seen it, I'm like... why the hell is this popping up all of a sudden?

Well, what it's trying to say is something along the lines of...

Your completion exp will be reduced exp because you're too high over the recommeded level of this leve. Your exp penalty is based off of how much of the leve you complete on a job 10+ levels over the recommended level, so if you switch right before the end of the leve, you still won't get the maximum exp reward even if you switch to a job within the recommended level range.

What it really says is something like...

Switching jobs during the leve will grant you reduced rewards.

No, I wasn't making fun of you; I legitimately never understood what that warning was trying to say until you asked this question. My wife and I duo together, so once she hit 50 and I was still 49, these messages started popping up for her. We didn't understand why, but it seems it was because she was 10 levels over the recommended level (40). It makes sense if you think about it, but dear god it's not worded very well.

    Just saw your edit:

GLD is probably the worst job at soloing. It lacks power, so kill speed is pretty slow. I would recommend leveling whatever class seems most interesting to you, but since you mentioned LNC/DRG, I will say that LNC/DRG is a BAMF. Also, if you're looking to endgame, most people these days want a WAR instead of a PLD, though the desired jobs change with every patch, so yeah just level whatever looks cool.

i understand what happened now, im just a little shocked that you get a penalty at 21 even though the mobs are 22. But i guess im not surprised. My plan was to use the drybone 5 star leves until i hit 22, then move to horizon 2 star where they would be lv.23. i dont really want to overwhelm my CON until i get a better grasp of the game. ive died a few times because ive tried to cast fire on myself about 5 times.

edit: i see i see, i was checking out warrior, but i do like DRG. i guess i have a bit of work to do before i even get there, i havent even found a source of income yet.

Okay since my thread got deleted.

Best setups for BLM in general.

Should I keep stack all INT items in a build for normal mobs and Magic Accuracy items on a build for HNMs / Primals (I have been going for the 470 range). Or should I focus on magic attack AND INT for normal mobs.

I read that magic critical potency is not as powerful so should I bother having either of those pieces in either of the two sets?

Hmm, well I can give you a general layout of accepted gear by slot, but as for how you will materia them in particular is a bit contingent on how your end game group works. Here's my go at your question:

Main: Electrum Scepter / Lightning Brand / Fire Brand
Head: Felt Cavalier's Hat / Felt Hat of Intelligence
Body: Wizard's Coat [simply nothing "better" in this slot]
    Hands: Mage's Halfgloves
    Legs: Sorcerer's Tights / Woolen Tights [INTx2]
    Feet: Mahogany Pattens [M.ATK x2]
Off: Aubriest's Allegory [lack of options]
Waist: Raptorskin Satchel Belt [HPx2, convert purposes]
Ear: Mage's Earring [lack of options]
Neck: Spinel and Rubelite Chokers [want both ideally]
    Wrists: Zircon Bracelets +1
    Rings: Zircon Rings +1 x2

Generally speaking the materia for your weapon and head slots are going to be determined by your party setup and/or linkshell strategies. If you group uses BV+minuet on bosses, stacking INT is more bang for your buck (this is preferred when you can get away with a quick BRD swap for a 3minute Ballad). If there is no BRD swap, then your group will run full-time ballad and thus m.acc will provide more consistency. Clearly since there is no INT song, you can figure out which setup is more powerful.

MCP is pretty bad and I would not bother with it. Many have traded that bonus for more tangible benefits such as MAP, M.ACC, and INT.

It's worth keeping an Macc set and INT/MATK. I tend to use INT for bosses since Thundara is your main source of damage, and Matk for when Fire/Ice spells are being used a lot (like Ant boss in CC, though Macc would serve you well in that instance too).

I would focus more on INT, rather than MATK. But take damage where you can get it.

How does attatching materia work? i know you have to have an 18 DoH to unlock the ability, but do i need really high level DoH to put decent level materia into a piece of gear?

It should say the requirements on the gear + materia, but to attach materia, you need to be on the class that repairs the gear and be at or above the level of the gear. On top of the gear + materia, you'll also need the catalyst mentioned on the materia that you intend to meld. For example, if you want to socket a MND+5 materia into a Lv25 Velveteen Turban, you'd need to be Lv25+ WVR.

@aozora: when your xp dropped per mob at ~21 is because your xp bonus was fading away (if you were experiencing this problem). SE put in an xp bonus system to help people lv to 20 faster. It slowly tapers off til about R24 where u no longer get any bonus.

That +10 lvs over thing was confusing as fuck yea.

Attaching materia just requires the min lv of the DoH of the item type. The item tells you the lv you need to be to repair and attach materia to it. Usually like goldsmith repair lv25, affix materia lv 35. This means u need to have a lv 25 goldsmith to repair and a 35 goldsmith to attach a materia to the item.

for LL: Storm sergeant's bliaud INT/MND+8 Macc+10 (I prefer this over AF)

Also I recommend melding INT to the weapon and head slot, they can also be slotted with Macc but it's better to just carry coral rings and swap them in when necessary than rely on Macc from materia which you may not always need.

Looking over the suggestions, I have found I can have the following stats with a double melded INT headpiece and leg piece:

    INT 324 (330 with food)
Attack Magic Potency 480 (510 Lightning magic potency)
Magic Accuracy 448 (471 with food)

Is this a good build for BLM?

If I replace my rings with Zircons, my INT goes up to 354 / 360 INT but my magic accuracy decreases to 417 / 440.

My current gear setup has 463 m.acc and I still eat buttons for boss fights (we don't use Minuet). I still get a rare resist every once in a while; I'm considering switching back to an HQ Square Ash Shield. My other stats are 344 INT and 521 m.atk (558 total with lightning).

521 base magic attack? O.o What are you using to get 41 more matk than me and still have a high INT setup?
