I hope SE allows multiple retainers soon, it's getting difficult to level botanist, miner and a few crafting classes. And that's without caring about equipment. Then there's stuff you make that you're waiting to bazaar that doesn't stack. I can imagine needing at least three retainers by the end of the first month if I keep playing these classes. NPCing useless stuff like food ingredients is fine, but you don't want to be NPCing good stuff.

Hopefully they add it with the market ward change in a couple of weeks. That way I can have one retainer selling armour and weapons, one selling excess carpenter materials and one selling ores and gems.

90% of the stuff you get from mining/botany is worthless or can be easily gotten again rapidly if you need it - you just NPC that shit or offload it on a crafter in your LS.

I'm not going to give shit away just so I can go farm it again a few days later. I'm already NPCing the stuff I don't need. I'm not going to NPC logs, branches, ores or stones however. Even beehive and bone chips I can make use of. But the +1/2/3 shit fills your inventory fast. I guess I should craft those on the spot.

What I am indecisive with is the rarer feathers (fuck cocks, NPC those), silex and sand. If people will buy this stuff it's worth keeping. NPCing all food ingredients.

At the end of the day it's just a case of needing more retainers. If NPCing nearly all your stuff works for you that's fine. I don't think any serious crafter/gather thinks one retainer is enough.

Well, I've got 2 crafting classes and 2 gathering classes in the 12-14 range and haven't run into any issues yet. If anything, the only reason I could see a second retainer being useful is to sell things in two cities at once. Very few +items are worth keeping at all. Part of the game is inventory management. Luckily for people who are bad at it, you have the option of paying real money to cheat at it.

So levelling more than four classes = bad at inventory management and/or cheating now? Are you retarded? I'm having to level five crafting classes just so I can make the materials that my main crafting classes require. Good inventory management doesn't equate to NPCing everything you get that you don't currently need.

My inventory is full of crafting materials I need for CRP, ALC, ARM and GSM as well as a dozen tools/weapons and loads of different equipment. That's before you consider trying to make money selling to real people rather than NPCs.

The +1/2/3 items are very useful as they make synths easier to complete and increase the chances of HQ.

I don't know why some people go out of their way to defend every possible aspect of the game and every decision SE makes like it's the most perfect game ever made.

You somehow seem to believe that I do not also have a full set of gear for all my classes; that I do not also level up other crafts to support my main ones; that I do no ever use HQ ingredients at all. I do all of those things too. Yet I've managed fine. There's a lot wrong with the game but this is not one of them. You should be complaining about how NQ and HQ items can't stack together - that is an issue. Not that there's not enough inventory space. Don't go around calling people retards and SE defense force when it's your own incompetence that's causing your inventory to overflow.

No. There is not enough inventory space. Stop trying so hard.

The only thing SE has done right as far as inventory is concerned is crystals. Otherwise this system is fail with the existance of x4 of every basic item. Don't say the issue is that all these HQ don't stack, why would you think that would even be an option?

FFXI was hard enough to balance your inventory with 320, and this game hasn't even begun to need the essential inventory. You aren't carrying 3-4 different foods for your jobs, or sneak & invis items. Do you have echo drops for your mages yet? what about the different stacks of arrows for your Archer? Inevitable pop items, rare/ex drops, old gear you have to keep around for leveling lowbie jobs etc.

Yeah, it's tight now and the game hasn't even given us anything to do but craft all the shit we find.

I don't have inventory issues either, and I stock up on crafting mats on the 4 crafting classes I use, and the tools for all of them and my retainer is at most 30/80 and my personal inventory is the same or better. Having use buy more retainers is a cheap (from SE's PoV) solution. They should eventually release gobbie bag quests or equivalent. Or give players free extra retainers as quest or storyline rewards

Why do you want NQ and HQ items to stack together if you have more than enough space for them?

When you're having inventory issues 3 days into the game it's clear you're going to have massive issues later on when you're carrying equipment, tools, materials etc. that are specific to certain disciplines and level ranges.

I never said it's something wrong with the game, I said I hope I can purchase more retainers in the very near future. I've no problem paying for them.

No doubt you'll be one of the first to rush out and purchase another retainer when it's possible, despite having more than enough space to last you months/years.

you seem to be under the assumption that as the game evolves and players use more and more items we would still be at this 160 item limit. I can agree that different people use various amounts of inventory space. If you are the type of person to hoard items then you only put the cost of extra retainers on yourself. I just hope having more retainers in FFXIV does not become a nacessity, having a mule was a choice in FFXI and I never needed one but I did need a mog locker, storage ect.

It took SE years to give a decent amount of inventory space in XI. They'd add a gobbie bag or two quest every six months or so giving five space. That just won't be enough in XIV. Then there was a few quests to increase mog house space. Furniture being used as storage and whatever else happened later on took years.

A lot of shit I'm keeping in my retainer are hard to find items that I will need but not for another week or so. Why should I sell these and then have to hunt them down again in a few days/week. There's a lot of stuff worth keeping, either for your own use in the near future or to go on your bazaar when shit currently on it sells.

When SE changes the market wards it will be even more important to have multiple retainers. You don't want your carpenter products being sold in the weapons ward right? Because people buying carpenter materials will go to the carpenter ward and you'll be over looked. Likewise if you try to sell your weapons in the carpenter ward. Sure you can move your retainer between wards but you'll have a back log of stuff to sell since you'll only be selling one type of item at once, and do you really want to run back to the city your retainer is in multiple times per day to change its ward?

Any efficient crafter is going to want multiple retainers for many reasons.

There's that bag sack slot on our characters; hopefully they'll allow us to craft/quest for bags that could at least give an extra 20/40/60/80/100 slots. If my suspicions are correct, however, this game is based off of the same code as FFXI, which means that they'll be "limited" in how much space they can give, unlike other games that can simply just make bigger bags available for crafting/purchase.
