That was a very long time ago, they've adjusted the effects of stats on damage at least twice since then.

The general hierarchy for pure damage per hit/ws is [primary stat] > [secondary stat] > attack/attack from STR*

*in the case of ARC or for other melees who are already at the STR cap

Afair they do nothing. Back in Tanaka days he said they will eventually, but after Yoshi took his place I guess he decided to ignore it and either remove totally or change in 2.0 (don't remember if he said anything specific about this stuff)

I'm not going to dig up the dev quote for ya, but it's been officially stated that they (nameday/guardian) do nothing and that if they do choose to make them do something down the line, they intend to allow you to switch it at least once when the change is made.

Reports like these are usually indicative that the monsters popped in a cave. You were probably looking around up top, whereas the monsters were actually under you (or vice versa). The difference in elevation is portrayed on the minimap by having the yellow circle faded to some extent, but unless you know what you're looking for, it's easy to miss.

Also, to answer an earlier question, exp at your low level is generally so fast that people don't party up until 20+. By the time you've sat around town waiting for an exp party, you probably could have made just as much, or more, exp soloing/leves. Other reasons are because people don't have the right level classes available, or because it's faster just to powerlevel. Also note the recent releases of Diablo 3, Dragon's Dogma, etc.

Use the seek for party feature if you're not already. It's crappily implemented, so many people don't use it, but at least it'll give you the minor chance to land a party while you're out soloing rather than sitting in town.

you have to level gladiator to atleast 15 to unlock the quest to unlock warrior as a job

Are the WAR/DRG Sergeant weapons worth getting if you're never going to do primals? I've just been solo grinding jobs to 50 on leves and I don't plan on caring about endgame content until 2.0. They're worse than the primal weapons but better than anything bought, right?
