FFXIV Random Speculation/Question Thread XI: "How you liking that Beta Phase 5?"

Depends of what you mean by waste of time. If you're only after skill up sure, but solo grinding is still about 5k per hour at level 30, just chaining weaklings that die in 30s. Additinally you get tons of crystals and mob's drop, all go to you. I kept track on drops, solo grinding 29-30 on bleue opo-opo, 39k skill, took 8 hours of grind, and I got 5-6k shards of various types ( mainly fire) and 300 crystals ( mainly fire too). That's 2 Mil worth of gil for 8 hour of work.

Speculation, but it appears at first glance to me that shard/crystal drops are duplicated for every person in the party. Does it feel like that to others too? I know that the messages say that "everyone in the party gets x shard, x shards and x crystals, etc". In other words, I don't feel that I'm losing shards when I choose to party up.

I don't doubt that the loot itself if split up as it appears randomly assigned. But I personally prefer getting shards over random loot I don't care about taking up inv space (inb4 "l2manage ur inventory")

The crystals/shards you get are FAR less in a party than if you were solo. You will never see any "2 crystal, 6 shard x, 3 shard y, 3 shard z" drops in parties. It's just a couple of shards or a crystal here and there.

If you just want exp partying is the way to go. If you want monies soloing is 15x as fast. I have no use for gil so I like partying. Solo grinding is so incredibly bad and boring in this game that I can't get into it. I'm about 10k from rank 23 so after leves tonight I will probably have my final grinding session ever (until leveling changes) to knock the rest out. Woo level 30 leves.

I don't really know what's with me, but I really can't find a motivation to keep me playing. I wish that SE would give us more hints as to whats in store content wise. Right now the only thing to do seems to be leveling to cap, but there's no real reason to right now. Not to mention whenever I log in, it's seems almost eerily quiet, and the fact that all my lses are abandoned of active users.

Feeling the same way for the most part. The world seems so damn quiet and empty... nothing is going on. There is NO life in Eorzea (right now). I want that dev. blog that gives some sort of glimmer of hope for the future (and not fucking December... that update better be awesome).

What's the lowest rank at which I can attempt a Rank~30 Faction Leve? 23? 25? 30?

I'm wondering if I should save up for a Rank~30 or just grab a Rank~20 as soon as it has Guild Marks...

It should be available @ rank 20, because i have access to rank40s (300 credits) at rank 30.

Wow. I should just stop crafting. I can't make that much in 8 hours of crafting. I normally buy shards since I don't like grinding, but maybe I'll give it a try.

Where can I farm wind shards at 19 and get nice SP? Still dodos around Skull Valley? My last 4-5 ranks have come from leves.

You can do dodos yeah. Be careful when presuming you'll get two good things at once in this game. Just like in XI, it's hard to get good skill and good money at the same time within a reasonable time frame. It's more like one or the other.

I'd not be selling the shards, so nice skill and decent shards is enough for me. Just a question of finding time between leves, crafting and mining.

There's a patch up, no idea what it fixed yet.

They better not have taken away my 40% drop rate on skull eyepatches.

That's probably what it refers to.
I'm starting to wish I'd held on to my +3 now because its value is going to increase if the drop rate has been nerfed.

I hear ya. 14 is the first game I've played where I actually felt like I was wasting time by playing it. I wanna keep myself motivated and making money/exp so I'm in a good position for when the game really gets going, but I just don't see the point when most of my friends aren't logging on anymore and I can just go play something else which is far more rewarding. I guess it's probably 'cos it's still a beta.

I'm having the same issue, taking around 7-9 seconds between every synthesis action.

EDIT: And... maintenance in 15 mins. Hope they fix it.

ya... I feel like my game has been stuttering a lot more since the last patch; also, my sound seems to "Crackle" only when FFXIV is running (also a new problem since the last patch)

Fail. I stayed up until after maintenance to get a stall then went to bed. I come back and find there's been another maintenance.

How much do you guys charge for repairs? Obvious the cost of the mat is a factor, but so is your time. Take for example an item that requires an iron or silver nugget to repair. What's a fair price?

I repair anything that takes a brass nugget if it's 2k or more. Iron nugget 4k or more. It's not worth bending over for less than that, even though it's easy.

So has the eyepatch rate been dropped? I'm too weak to fight non-leve skeletons and I have no way to check until I get the Horizon leve again. Wondering if I should just buy back a +2 eyepatch from a bazaar so I'll have it just in case.

Yeah I was thinking brass 2-3k and iron/silver around 4k. But sometimes that sounds like a lot when you consider the price of the mats. But the rest is for your time I guess.

I can't comment on the patches, we've not hunted any since today's update. We usually look for them when doing the 30 leves.
