I wish I had something to blame it on. Tested for everything, looks like I'll be buying another new graphics card if driver reinstall doesn't help.
Aru and I seem to be on the same boat, except my entire PC tends to freeze up on top of that.
My PC will freeze completely occasionally too. Most frequently is the DirectX error, occasionally this will also have the balloon popup like in your pic, then is the generic "FFXIV has stopped working" windows error and only on occasion will my entire computer freeze forcing a hard reboot. All I can say for certain is that these errors occur most frequently during group play. It happens rarely that it'll screw up when I'm crafting in some remote corner but once I hop into a party it's errors every 10-30 minutes. Especially painful trying to get back into one of those 15 man locust parties that just carve a path and never stop. Almost impossible to find a window of opportunity to get back in because the party is constantly engaged.
Where are most groups exping around 28-32? Tam Tara? I wanna know where to hang out around and hopefully get party....
Efts out near Nine Ivies is a good spot for SP, 4-6 in party at that level.
Goddamn it, when are they gonna release the patch notes for the "BIG NOVEMBER UPDATE"
/annoyed
you mean the LATE novemeber update? I'm hoping for the 19th, but it could be later.
In regards to the direct X issues, I get it everytime windows 7 asks me for permission on something. Really sucks but I've learned to ignore the first popup if I'm doing something important.
If they are smart they will be putting in OT hours right now trying to crank that update out before the 22nd when people have to pay for their subscription... and if they cannot get a GOOD update out by then they better offer yet another free month trial. I really think these next 2 version updates are make or break for the game.
There's nothing to stop people cancelling their subscription on the 21st and re-activating it a few days later if they're that worried the update may suck and they could be wasting $10. At least your first subscription should cover the November patch plus the December patch they've talked about.
Probably already putting in OT hours just to get PS3 release ready.
I doubt the Nov update will even scratch the surface on a lot of the issues people have been most vocal about and/or are glaringly obvious problems.
Only reason I'm playing right now is because it's free and I want to squeeze as much of my initial investment as I can. If the fixes aren't massive in Nov, I don't think I'll be alone in not continuing to subscribe (unless they extend another free month).
To stick to a strict date that is/was so far off when people are dealing with the problems right now isn't/wasn't a smart move. Maybe they really need that time to create some incredible fixes. However that is just me using the later date to build up my expectations, which probably can't be met. There has been no progress for the game in our hands and that is more disheartening than anything else.
What they should do is make the game subscription-less until the end of the year(so basically one more month for most people). They want people to be around for the first major content update right? Cataclysm comes out in Dec I think lol.
Alternatively or additionally, a return to Eorzea campaign will be due on PS3 launch.
Honestly they probably pulled all resources off of PS3 right now and all hands are on the nov / dec patches. They know this is make or break for them. If the game's dead there's no point in even continuing the PS3 release.
Being in the industry myself, I can tell you that the amount of work they've promised for the november patch is fucking ridiculous, that's an absoltuely ridiculous amount of content for a team to produce in 1 month of work. And I guarantee you none of that was planned for such an early release until they realized it was necessary due to the negative reception. On that note, you can pretty much bank on the massive november update being next thursday. The end of the free trial for CE purchasers is the following Tuesday I think. I think that's intentional. It gives people just enough to play with the change a little bit, but not enough time for the "wooo" factor of such a massive update to wear off. This way they maximize the number of people who renew, even if just for 1 month as a "test" to see what the December update brings.
So personally, I give them props for reacting to the situation appropriately. We'll see if the patch lives up to its expectations, but promising a massive patch for a long time away was really the right thing to do. They need it to hit all at once, not over time. They need people to go from being completely lost to thinking like "holy shit this just got WAY fucking better overnight, literally". That's what's going to keep those subscriptions for 1 month longer. Which, conveniently, will be just enough time to witness the next update, which is just as massive.
Right around that time, they're going to announce what's coming in future updates. Which will be the next big things people are going to be asking about - Chocobos, Delivery Boxes, Ishgard, more party play features, better search systems, even more market improvements, more user interface changes. And the big one, a change to the level curve post-30.
Also, don't be surprised if there's even MORE in the nov/dec patches than what was promised. It would be a very effective trick for them to use to get people even more pumped, and more likely to continue their subscriptions. Promise enough to make people drool, and then make them jizz when they realize that wasn't even the end of it. I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to throw in a number of additional things rather than just those they promised just since people aren't expecting it
Nvm.
November update: nerfing barbs and/or feint. Calling it now.
I really doubt that Ishgard can be released before ps3 launch, will probably come with the first cap increase.. so maybe 2011 summer?
Spoiler: show
The miracle patch better be really good, not worth paying the subscription if population gets any lower.
I don't think I'm making things up, but I believe there was initially scheduled to be a legitimate, content-implementing version update in December. November's is just the patch where they try to fix their fuck-ups and lure back the people they drove off.
The amount of crap promised in the November update IS ridiculous assuming they just realized in October that things were unacceptably terrible, but I'm sure they've been working on it since at least the middle of the year when the complaints were pouring in during beta.
If that's not the case and they honestly thought things were a-ok up until a month ago...well the game deserves to fail miserably and every single manager on the project deserves to be fired.
