Then there's a little hope that my new Chef's Apron will no longer look like someone wiped their ass with it whenever I get it upgraded.

Its easy. Just round around and collect 7-10 crates (Can't remember the exact number). You only have 10 minutes to complete it, but they're all close to Iron Lake camp and there's no aggro mobs in the area.

Might as well play a bit, grinding without random skill gain is great and it's not like I have to pay!

God I missed you so much, auto sort...

Few questions now that I have some more classes leveled

1.I can't seem to find where to buy the crafting tools required other than the ones I got as rewards from guildleves, I'm currently in LL

2.What do faction points do? I seem to get a load of them but I have no idea where I can see them, again I checked core/wiki and couldn't find much

3.About gear : At what point do I need to upgrade my weapons/armor, or does it all come from appropriate level guildleves, and if I don't know any crafters, where can I repair my stuff?

    1. Every city has every tool/weapon for purchase somewhere. There's either weapon shops, gathering-specific shops, guild-specific shops, or crafting shops that sell the basic weapon/tool that they are capable of making. For Limsa Lominsa specifically, check all of the NPC shops in East and West Hawkers' Alleys. Some will be obvious which foreign guild they are for by their sign, and others will be vague and simply carry the weapons/tools of guilds that are home in a different city. For example there's a shop that advertises their goods are from Ul'dah and sells Pugilist's weapon amongst other crap. Armorer/Blacksmith/Culinarian tools will be sold at their respective guilds in Limsa Lominsa.

    2. When you choose leves from the Regional Levequest NPC, there's Battlecraft, Fieldcraft, and Faction leves. Rank-20 faction leves cost 100 credits, Rank-30 = 200 credits, Rank-40 = 300 credits, etc. You're basically earning trust with the specific faction each time you do a regional levequest and eventually become worthy to help carry out a much more important task for them. Azeyma's Shields focuses on subduing wanted criminals, Brotherhood of the Broken Blade focuses on offensive operations against the local aggressive beastmen, and the Horn and Hand is a more peaceful faction that focuses more on gathering useful materials, researching, and other non-violent activities (Horn and Hand leves do not involve fighting). Faction leves very frequently have equipment rewards that are either parts of the Rank-1 Onion set (doublet/gaskins/pattens) or are one of the "damaged" pieces that are semi low rank (but still good) until you craft them into "vintage" pieces that are generally Rank-36 and pretty great for their rank from what I can see.

    3. Since they drastically reduced the rate at which equipment is rewarded from leves at launch, you generally can't keep yourself equipped via rewards until later when your leveling begins to slow down. Even then, some equipment only comes from Fieldcraft leves, and some only from Battlecraft, so you'll have to spread your efforts across different classes to get everything you want. You'll have to eventually rummage through the market wards for what you're looking for. Be sure to put aside enough time to check all those bazaars though, as it's still a pain. I highly recommend not wearing something beyond your rank unless your only other option is weathered garbage or something else that's extremely out-of-date. For example, I'm a rank-25 Pugilist and my weapon is rank-23 Brass Knuckles. If I put on my Rank-26 Tortoiseshell Hora, who's stats are obviously better, that 1 rank difference between me and the new weapon drops its stats significantly lower than the Brass Knuckles. However, if I were still using Weathered Hora, even something that was significantly beyond my current rank would be a huge upgrade. Just keep that in mind and avoid purchasing equipment that's above you unless you have a good idea that it will be better than what you're wearing. The green/red stat comparison does not take into account the adjustment of stats when you're under the Optimal Rank.

Has anyone seen any obvious mob weaknesses to specific damage types (piercing/blunt/etc) or damage directions?

Hey, I've been away from the game for a good while with computer problems, missing a number of updates etc. Now I'm getting really bad stuttering for short periods of time in some areas. Particularly in certain areas of cities, and when approaching crystal camps, but also briefer stuttering out in the fields at regular intervals. Used to be nothing like that. I've heard they've divided the areas into more zones to decrease lag. Is the stuttering a result of that, and does everyone get it? Is it normal, or should I go see a doctor?

edit: Also takes forever to load PCs sometimes in crowded areas.

The taking forever to load NPCs thing has been the case forever and is still a little annoying. Have to load the models of all the weapons/armor of all the surrounding chars and the game isn't optimized to do that yet. I didn't notice any new lag or stuttering. Maybe certain video cards are having issues.

Does anybody know the reason I can't save any of my "general" settings in the config? I can setup my gamepad just fine but the config closes without saving when I try to save video settings. I wanted to go try out battle regimens since they apparently work now but not if I can barely see my character on screen at 12xx by 7xx.

It's the PCs loading that's the problem for me, not the NPCs. I can run through entire crowded areas of cities without a single PC showing up, and once I've stopped moving, 30 characters load at once after 5-20 seconds.

It's a minor issue though compared to the stuttering. I've tried different GPUs, drivers and both a 7200 rpm HDD and an SSD, but I get the same identical problem. I guess it could be a networking problem. Jesus really doesn't want me to play this game it seems.

Do you hear your hard drive grinding away before the PC's show up?

I am having very similar problems. The PC loading has gotten particularly bad in the past few days. The stuttering and dropped frames have been happening for well over a month. I seriously have no idea what is causing these problems because FFXIV is the only game I have any issues with at all.

pc loading is a server side problem, nothing to do with your computer. i've experienced some stuttering in recent days as well, and while it obviously seems suspicious that it happened right around the time you changed your hard drive, i'm inclined to think that it's a red herring, and it's completely unrelated and it's just the game being shit.

P.S. You will never hear a SSD drive "grinding away" because they don't work that way.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but is the "Cannot attack that target"-bug with leve mobs fixed?

Annoyed me to no end that a mob could basically kill you without you being able fight back.

Haven't been following this threat as closely, but I do notice you guys aren't posting as frequently as before. So either you guys just quit the game, or your too busy playing it to post lol.

Anyway, I just wanted to your, those of you who are still playing it, opinion on the game after its first major version update. Hows the game play now, is it still buggy, and more importantly, hows the menu and UI lag now? I don't expect them to add new content till March at least so I'm not too concerned about that.

I don't play it yet because the mere thought of trying it on my lap top would cause it to commit seppuku lol.

As far as the UI, lag, and buggyess of things goes, it has drastically improved. However, there is still very little content.

You have 8 killing/logging/fishing/mining quests each 36 hours.
You have 8 crafting quests each 36 hours.
You have an opportunity to kill things with pickup groups every hour.
You have a main storyline mission every 5~10 ranks or so.
You have a simple class-quest every 10 ranks or so after 20.

Other than that, all that's left is grinding (solo for now), gathering, or skilling up crafts.

I'm holding up, but I'm not pretending there's tons of shit to do. The quests/missions are by far the funnest thing in the game, it's just a bummer how spread out they are. (not sure if AF quests not existing until 40~50 was any better) It will probably be like night and day once there's assorted real quests, hamlet defense events, and the such.

As far as the primary progression in the game goes, Ranks 1 through 20.. are pretty damn good. I have really liked it so far. The pace is perfect, at least from 10 to 20.

Combat is still not "snappy" enough for me (some of it could be on my end, fucking ATI and their shitty drivers) but it's getting there. UI doesn't piss me off anymore either. Marketplace on the other hand..

Right now reports say rank 20+ needs improving. Obviously more content would be nice, even for pre rank-20 although not as much. I think the current pace of main scenario quests are just perfect until 20's. All I'd wish for is a class quest for every class for rank 10, or fuck it, rank 5. Also more and better tutorials that explain things better (no need for it before March though, and it's coming). I've personally had to explain basic things like changing classes and the marketplace to at least 4 new guys in the last few days in-game. Unacceptable.

Update brought bugs but not like the game is very buggy as-is. That shit will be dealt with soon enough, it's not a huge problem.

Also finally the game is turning from mob grind to quest grind. Now what we need are enough guildleves in the lower levels to work in a way that you wouldn't have to redo the same leve more than few times when leveling your first class, to keep things fresh. Same goes for higher ranks, but with more grind per leve to even it out. Also especially for higher ranks there should be leves with more variety. Kill an NM, receive 4-5k SP when it dies? Oh yes!
