I'd like to know if there's any pattern to unlocking higher rank crafting leves or if it's just totally random. I always have some rank 1 or 5 leves for GLD. If I complete them will a higher one show up? A dude in my LS seems to think so.
I think it's completely random which rank leve you'll get. I've never done crafting leves of certain types in certain locations and I still have all the higher rank ones available. For GLD in Limsa that has 4 rank 1-5 leves and then nothing til rank 20 you're more likely to get rank 1-5 leves than otherwise. Of course there's the [innkeeper's][adjective][item] leves that only come in rank 1-5 flavor as well.
They should really put in an algorithm that makes it less likely for you to get leves 10+ ranks below you. I mean it's not like these leves are actual content that has replay value. I certainly wouldn't cry if Momodi's Charming Chokers never popped up again.
So hows the game after this patch? I haven't played for about a month or so now - I didn't even take a conscious decision to quit, just got bored. Is it much better?
I know there's another patch soon, but is there any more lined up? I know about the whole management reshuffle, so hoping that'll improve the game!
Depends where you were pre-patch.
It's getting there. We'll get two patches in December. Whether the second one is "shit we couldn't finish in time for the first one" or something new, that's up for debate. I'd say a bit of both.
Is there any noticeable difference to taking local leves in the city that has the guild (ie. ARM/BSM in LL)? For example do you get more leves, or better chance at level appropriate leves, or is it just all random all the time? I am trying to level up a few crafts that I have left behind and I am finding that I am only getting 1 worthwhile leve each reset for some of them while others I might get 4-5.
Definitely. For Culinarian, the local leves in Gridania fucking suck with maybe a single rank-20 if at all while Ul'dah will have a 15 and a 20 semi-consistently... then Limsa Lominsa will often have a couple 25s, a 30, and another couple 15/20s. I've noticed the same exact trend for Alchemist with everywhere sucking for local leves except for Ul'dah. My Carpenter is only like 18, but I've had plenty of solid leves in Gridania, though I haven't checked other cities for that class.
Guess I am going to have to alter my leveling strategy then and actually spend some time in the other cities. I have been trying to stick to one city because I don't have time to waste on travel and I don't want to rip through my Anima in a couple sessions. Thanks for the info.
You generally get more leves in the town which has the guild than you would in other towns, the rank is still random as fuck though.
And certain towns suck for some ranks, ie grid has a bunch of r10 armorer leves, but pretty much no r15 and only 1 or 2 r20
EDIT:: Also, as long as you just warp to the cities, anima isn't bad now, I've been constantly hitting 100 and I'm teleing between cities alot more than I use to now.
I am, actually; 3 days now. I told you, I ran into an old friend on XI so I'm messing around a bit more. Trying to give the game a fair shake, as there are a few (just a few) things I like about it. One of them is the weapon models... long sword is loooong.
Besides, the shit's going to be free forever now. There's no incentive for me not to play, so long as I'm not getting frustrated by it.
I really am starting to wonder about this... having both GLD and BSM 30+ I always get 25-35 rank leves for GLD but for BSM it's incredibly rare. I am also traveling to all 3 cities per reset. I haven't been tracking it but off memory I am seeing the exact same BSM leves with a change of 1-4 different ones between all cities... ranks are random but most are 1-15 with very few 25+ leves.
Half tempted to accept all the R1's and R5's in LL and see if the next reset they are different.
With all the leves across 3 cities it would be a major pain in the ass to keep track of which leves you have or haven't done without a completed list. However, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if that was the case.
The only anecdotal evidence I have against this idea is that because I get so few leves at times, I am almost positive that I have completed all of the leves for some crafts in LL and I still get crap each reset.
Has it been determined if mobs use a sight/sound agro system like 11 or just a lame proximity based agro like WoW?
I think there is sight/sound, things like diremites are sound, but iirc from when I was exploring around crimson camp, raptors were sight.
Ok good. I hope you're right. That's one thing I was really hoping that would be kept from 11. Really adds to the immersion.
I am pretty sure any mob will detect you if you get close enough (basically butt-humping it), even if they are obviously sight-based like humanoids.
Also... I could just be imagining things and/or being tricked by lag, but I think the higher rank you become, the smaller range of detection an aggressive mob has on you. Does anyone have any observations regarding that? I just used to never be able to get anywhere near a Thorned Roseling without pissing it off. Now, while it still is aggressive towards me, I can sneak on by undetected if I have a decent little gap between it and a wall.
i dont think doing the low level leves will change anything, i tried it couple times and got the same leves and ranks for some leves.
just go to the city that has the guild for the craft you want and you will see more leves, rank is random.
about the aggressive thing, i also noted that i got less aggro being higher, i also heard you can walk instead of running for some mobs, but never actually tested.
Efts aggro running. If you walk by em, they ignore you. Try it!
Discovered this as a joke actually. A botanist in LS was annoyed some efts would aggro and other wouldn't so I said you should tip-toe cuz maybe they aggro running. Lo and behold they do.
wondering a couple things: i've heard many times that the devs read this forum and zam forums as well. is this confirmed to be true?
and if so, is there any specific thread or forum that they look at in regards to player feedback?
Its true, and I think they look at just about any popular XI-XIV site. Its confirmed that they look at BG, and have done so for years.
