Yes however creating an ad is a passive way to recruit. It becomes the responsibility of others to find you. A global party org. chat creates at active recruitment environment. Both can be affective but far more people respond to the latter. It's like why people generally prefer to watch a movie than read a book. The masses are lazy

Speaking of the search system, how exactly does it function? From what I can gather you have the option to Recruit which is for when you want to start your own party for a certain purpose; or you can Search which is checking out the current "recruiting" groups. If this is correct does that mean there is currently no way to set yourself as LFG?

On my server in the past month I have seen no recruit message for my range, aside from my own. I have always been one to make parties so I continue to do so in FFXIV. It is difficult to find member and I use any means necessary to do so. That means asking on both my LSes, having a recruit message, shouting in town, shouting when I get to the aetherite and asking people after behest (if they don't suck). Most of the people in my LS are higher rank than me or are in the UK so I don't have a large pool of ls people to pull from.

So I may come off as the noob shouting in town for sp parties, but I do typically get on average 3 additional people to sp with, in addition to my duo partner. I find partying with people overall rewarding, there are some people who don't know how to play but the effect isn't bad enough to disuade me from finding people.

that is correct, you cannot LFG. You can search for any job you have touched, meaning you can see if people are recruiting for your DOW job while you are DOH etc... It sucks because that means that if you are looking for a group, you pretty much have to keep refreshing to see if any have appeared.

When I create a party I typically do not list a purpose, or list guildleves if that is what I am doing. I do not pick a specific leve, I assume that would only allow people with that leve to join. I choose "any" for the class choice, pick a decent range and then enter the max number of people.

A party can be joined from anywhere in the world, but you can only see their stats if they are nearby. They can be ousted (kicked) from anywhere, but can only be promoted (made leader) in the same area.

Are DotL supposed to "fight" in rank 38 mission? I did parely with 2-3 of them then all of a sudden I got a whole horde riding my ass... >.>

No. There's a thread about missions somewhere around here. You just have to parley as fast as hell. It's ridiculously tight timing.

Looks like Impish Incantations is getting nerfed so that rank 30+ imp leves can actually be completed at a reasonable level. Some bug fixes as well. Pretty decent minor patch. No new content which means they're going to have to keep the game free for a long while still.

I've heard you have more success getting an item in auto-translator when you first login.

Yeah, now if only they would give me another dozen retainers so I can actually sell everything in the correct ward.

It's still going to be a pain to find the little things you need. Like if I want to find some willow branches or jade, do you think people are going to put their retainer in the ward that caters to branches or jade or are they going to put it in the spell craft ward so that their mage weapons sell?

I'll probably still use YG over this search in most cases because YG lets you search all of the wards at once, for any item. Of course if I don't find it on there I'll use the in-game search to try find an item in case I get lucky.

Well their ultimate goal of the retainer system was to force people into buying extra retainers at $1 each/month. They're probably still on that plan.

What are the Coblyns everyone is talking about grinding on? And when can a two man party at? LNC26 and GLA30

Nanawa Mines - Iron Coblyns, at your level. You can definitely duo them. You can even solo them at ~27ish and are decent exp/kill til 32, but probably still tops for solo grinding for awhile thereafter...
