I'll have to repeat, it's just speculation and nothing that's been confirmed by anyone so far.

There are many reasons it could be true though. If we look at some of the crafting equipment for example, many of those that have Mag. Craftsmanship +X also favor the DoH that use a magic stat, and vice versa..
Is there anywhere to find out what stat affects which craft? All I've heard so far is MND - Weaving and STR - Blacksmith.

Also, (sorry if it's been mentioned) the lv40 abilities for 6 crafts boost those stats purely for crafting purposes. Not rly much speculation to that. i.e. Resolution for ARM (VIT)

Temporarily increases influence of vitality on craftsmanship.
    Manipulation for Gold (DEX)

Temporarily increases influence of dexterity on craftsmanship.

you mean like amethyst ring? I haven't found a listing yet but it is a leve item for rank 45 goldsmithing according to YG. So if you just keep checking back you'll surely get the leve and then you can know how they are made. The leve is either in Grid or Uldah, I forget which.

Soemone in my guild said that Mag. Craftsmanship tends the orb towards white more often.

I think having more Control tends to keep the orb white. I thought I saw a difference once I bought gear with more control. I wish this stuff was in the adventure handbook along with the other stats. Does perception have anything to do with crafting?

    Perception is for gathering classes.

Its possible that +control keeps the orb white, but I had thought it made you less likely to fail in general. I am able to succeed on a lot more red/yellows than I used to even on synths much higher rank than me. I've been told that Mag. craftmanship effects how often elements become unstable, which would make sense because I have less mag. craft gear and do tend to have that occur, but never really get sparks.

Based on that, it would seem that control is most useful, followed by m. craftsmenship and craftsmenship. I'll see how often I destabilize when I pump my control over 50 and lower my m. craft to 30.

What I feel like I have been observing "craftsmanship" doing is boost the odds of better quality+progress when you do succeed at a synthesis.

I feel like general rank vs recipe is pretty much all that matters regarding your overall success rate.

I always thought it would be Craftmanship - Quality & Progress, Magic Craftmanship - controlling the magical elements of the synth, and control is Control your synth to make it more stable.

I assumed the sparks were down to the books you can get, the synths sparks because you haven't "learnt" how to do it yet

This. @24 ARM the recipe I was skilling up on, I break 1/5 of them and on successful synths dura would usually end up 20 or lower. As soon as I dinged 25 I was able to spam standard on pretty much any color and end with durability around 60.

Also about the sparks I haven't seen sparks on any synth I've done in probably 15 lvls of ARM. Even if I chain fail I don't get sparks. Also doesn't matter if I chain fail a recipe relatively higher than my lvl. Still no sparks. I only ever see them when I use Touch Up more than 4 or 5 times.

My control is right at 60 and m.craft is 41. Craftsmanship only 27 I think. Don't remember that one offhand but I know its considerably lower than the other two.

Edit: I do remember getting some sparks once or twice when doing a few rapid synths in a row. Even with rapid succeding. But how often does anyone use rapid now.

Edit again: @Elcura's post. I seem to destabilize a lot. Even doing synths way below my lvl. Destabilizing doesn't seem to hurt me though unless its ice or wind. My affinity is an even amount of wind and earth both sitting at 80. No other element is above 50.

I think sparks are from using rapid/touch up (and maybe bold? but I don't really use tons unless I'm doing a lowbie synth), hence why people havn't seen any since we all started to spam standard instead of rapid.

I use bold a lot since I have masterpiece buff and I've never seen sparks from it. Pre-patch I've gotten sparks a lot using rapid and post-patch I see if after touching up a few times.

I do tend to get quite a few destabilizes with bold, rarely when I'm above level but it still happens. If I'm below the recommended level I see destabilizes happen even on standard but never sparks.

I wish I knew what affects destabilisation. Often for me the element that destabilises isn't the one I used in the synth. That leaves me to believe it has something to do with your elemental affinity. Maybe a balanced setup is better than having over 170 wind like me. Of course you still need one high for gathering, but maybe it's best to keep all the rest at 60 or so.

So apparently the recipe for Brass Hatchet has finally been found... and it needs Wing Glue. I've have yet to find anyone selling the glue, though, so I cannot verify this for myself.

Wing glue, lol botanists got screwed. Alchemists sell glue at 12 times the cost to make it. Judging by the rarity of wing glue mats I'd guess you'll pay around 50-100k for a piece of wing glue.

    Isisn'T fullfillment enough?

And how important is it to clear the message saying "your leatherworker skill is not high enough"?

I remember a local leve where I was getting the same message. It was something in the 5-10 range and while it was a challenging synth, I did complete the leve, even if just barely. This says to me it's annoying without the appropriate subjob rank, but it's doable and does not require that the main job be 10 ranks higher or anything (since we were still in the 5-10 range).

I told you it wasn't easy. Your best bet is to just Hasty Hand it till you make one. The mats aren't expensive so its a good synth to use it on. Ul'Dah has an NPC that sells Sheep Leather right outside the Adv. Guild, grab a stack, get support, and start breaking.
