where do people get their buffalo hides?
but, -10 is still the guaranteed spot you can do it.
I have a question for CRPs.
I have a load of chestnut logs. Is it worth skilling up on them? It seems like it would be an alternative to oak half mask. I'd get SP turning them into lumber and then make chestnut sword grip. But that's 9 wind shards whereas oak half mask is only 3 wind shards and 3 earth shards. Considering I have 15k earth shards and 760 earth crystals I don't think I'd miss those. So it boils down to 6 wind shards vs buying/farming oak logs. But then I feel like farming oak anyway because the mob that drops oak also drops walnut.
If you are doing the farming yourself and not using wards, I would go with the oak. If you ever hit a lul in oak supply you can always supplement with chestnut. I actually wish I would have done that. I went oak all the way through and now I am literally sitting on 50+ stacks of chestnut logs from leves after trying to get all my CRP abilities. I just don't know what to do with them all. I know as soon as I vendor them SE will raise the level cap and make a level 60 Chestnut mask -.- Shards aren't as big of a deal as they used to be, so if your chestnut supply gets too high (Which it will if you need crp guildmark abilities) just synth them down.
I wouldn't worry too much about holding the logs now because they're going to stack to 99 from the new patch, which means they're better as logs than lumber. But yeah you're probably right about going with oak. I'm just not sure how efficient it will be to farm them. Once I hit 50 on archer I won't even feel like it because they aren't mobs you can kill fast. I want to avoid doing botany since I'm already doing mining and two DoLs is too hardcore even for me but I'm not sure what kind of drop rate to expect from these mushrooms. I suppose I can do oak and chestnut together like you say. I can't imagine there will be a chestnut half mask, I think 50-60 is more likely to be a log that's currently unused or not in the game yet like teak.
Well, i am impatient, so I just bought my logs... of course I was around when carpentry was profitable and I was selling 2-3 weevil bows a day at 1 mil a pop
I couldn't imagine farming (or chopping for that matter) all the mats necessary to get from 30-50. I was lucky and had our resident LS botanist to supply me all the way up to 50.
And yes, this wednesday patch is going to open up atleast 100 inventory slots for me across both of my characters. My wood mule is going to be a happy panda.
I've always wondered why bows are so expensive and remain that way compared to other weapons. I mean a crab bow isn't any harder to make than a banneret lance for example. Sad thing is I was planning to be a CRP from the start, then I switched to gold. I'd probably be twice as rich had I stayed a CRP. CRP is probably the easiest craft to rank up yet makes the most gil. Makes no sense lol.
wind shards was hard to come by :[
i didnt level my CRP bc it uses wind shards from starts to finish, kinda turned me off
LW 34-38 opinions? Without doing toad vamps?
CRP seems to eat way less shards of any type than goldsmithing. I think I'll be fine if I break down tiger cods.
NQ Crab bows sit in my bazaar for days and days at 200k. But I think you underestimate the effort that goes into making them. You need a high rank GS to make grips for the Oak bow (Not applicable in your case) , you need a semi high rank BSM to make the bow nocks for the oak bow, You have to actually find/farm the hippo cord for the oak bow, and you then have to synth it all into a bow that is only 25% of the crab bow. Now tack on the fact that you are trying to get HQ ingredients so that you can HQ your Oak bow so that you can HQ your Crab bow.... there is quite a bit of work that goes into making a crab bow and imo ( and yes I am biased) 200k is cheap for the amount of time i spend getting a NQ crab bow, and the 1.75 mil I get for a +1 and 5 mil for +2 is justified considering the countless hours put in farming HQ mats that yield a NQ bow 90% of the time. You spend 3 hours in Cassiopia hollow only to come out with one red coral +3 and you gain a new appreciation for the price of the high level HQ items. I guess 200k could be considered high if someone was just using all NQ mats.. but that just seems like a waste of time and materials. HQ is where the money is.
::Shameless Plug:: If you are on Figaro and have red Coral +3 I will buy them at 40k each ::End Shameless Plug::
Sorry for the multi post...
I am not familiar with the Metal Crafts as I do crp/lth/wea but for my experience (and i documented this pretty thouroughly):
From 39-50 i Used 31,000 wind shards, 20,000 ice shards 312 Yew logs and 624 walnut logs. (Shard cost includes breaking logs to lumber)
Granted, this was all (or mostly...can't remember) before the Shard reduction patch so my numbers will be off for up and coming crp's. So I figure I used about
60k wind shards or more 1-50. Thank god for the new Alch synths... or there is no way I could afford to level another 1-2 crafts.
I guess what I'm saying is bows are expensive compared to similar weapons in other crafts. All gear seems to be selling for too low right now. Take the banneret lance for example, it sells for half a crab bow on my server, yet to make that I'd have to find a BSM to make the iron lance parts and a CRP to make the iron lance (although my CRP may be high enough to do that now). I can't farm +3 mats for HQ chance either, I've got to sit there and craft them for 0 SP. I've farmed red coral before to make arrowheads (good SP for high gold) and I agree it sucks ass, but I think I'd prefer that over having to buy mats to spam bold on crap like brass nuggets and butts.
I've no idea how many shards gold cost me but even after the shard reduction the minimum I'd use is 6 wind and 6 fire, which became 8 wind and 9 fire when skilling on electrum rings. Not to forgot the 11 per synth on white/red/blue/obsidian arrowheads, 5 to turn a raw gem into a gem then 10 more to SP on the ring. Not to mention a lot of these having to be low SP synths often around or below 200. CRP just seems easy in comparison. But that's because gold is probably the hardest to take 40-50 right now. Although there's a "new" synth people are starting to do that makes 45+ easier, but I don't want to mention it because gold sand prices are going to drop and that will kill my motivation to get MIN to 50.
Interesting numbers there for yew logs, now I know roughly how many to stock up on. I bought about 80 the other day as they were cheap. You just put me off farming walnuts from mobs however...
Would anyone here have an estimate on what rank a vintage guisarme synth is?
^ 40-45 would be my guess based on the exp I get after I complete one. Still no luck on an HQ... thing is stingy.
