Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. This is certainly going to make my push to 50 easier then. Well since I just had my mind blown with that, I'll ask this: does CRP have any 45/50s that aren't Crimson Bark? That will be my next craft, and my friend just finished and said that was his only option from 40-->50. The path to that place is absolutely absurd.
Did Walnut Masks have their crafting level reduced? If so, ignore this. If not, that's the way to 50. Mooglebox seems to imply it caps at 42 now I think.
I can't speak for CRP50 leves (I am only 41), but there's a CRP45 with the in-town Masienta lady (Canes for the Citizens). There's also a CRP40 in Bentbranch which wants 5 items (so you get 7 synths); it's great if the synth exp is decent for your level. I avoid the Crimson Bark leves like the plague, and I haven't seen any CRP40/45s in either of the other cities.
I haven't tried to make a Walnut Mask yet, but I don't think they tweaked any of the old recipes, so I'm pretty sure it's still the way to 50 (though I supplemented my high 30s and low 40s with Rosewood Lumber(46) since I'm a Botanist). I hear Walnut Masks use Magic Craftsmanship; hopefully that helps someone.
For CRP, I leveled that earlier this month. I exhausted my materials I was grinding on and that put me 30k into 49 and I just did locals in Gridania and I don't remember getting any Lv50 locals. The material and recipe changes took out some locals in certain cities. I would do a Lv45 that just took me to Bent Branch and a Lv40 that was in town. About 7k a cycle isn't bad. Also refer below.
Yeah, that's not the cap. It's still a Lv50 Synth. Was getting 300-315 per synth at Lv49.
When should I be using a GSM's offhand tool over the mainhand? I'm guessing materials, offhand, jewelery, mainhand?
Edit: What exactly do Perception and Control do?

Perception "Makes it easier to obtain high quality items" which is a little ambiguous, could mean actual +3 gathering materials or the rate at which you come upon rarer items.
Crafting stats were never explained in detail (afaik) but it's generally accepted that Control most likely helps maintain favorable synth conditions (less red/flashing orbs) and reduces the risk of elemental instabilities/aetherial sparking.
The only differences between main and off hand tools as far as we know are the crafting stats (obviously) and the results when getting an HQ. Generally MH HQs are +1/2/3 items and OH HQs give higher yields, but it's reversed for a few crafts (don't remember which atm). When making something like a weapon/armor the HQ results are the same tho, you won't get 2 steel bhujs on an HQ regardless of what hand you're crafting with.
If you're going to do Walnut Masks, load up on M.Craft.
Yes those abilities are nice but generally you won't be leveling 2 other crafts to 36 while amassing guild marks just to get your first craft to 50.
For one's first go-around;
Preserve ALC10
Makers Muse BSM10
Fulfillment TAN10
Tender Touch CRP10
Is a much more reasonable, efficient collection of useful abilities to start with to help get your preferred craft going.
Refined best ability list:
Preserve
Hand of the Gods
Ingenuity
Best bang for your buck in my opinion. All these abilities last 3-4 turns depending on the item. Perfection is good too but I hate carp and will get to it eventually, but it just seems like 1/3-4 of what hand of the gods is(plus I think the slot cost is kinda high?). For HQ'ing purposes it might be better but next patch changes the whole HQ thing so meh.
Have to factor in that guild marks are being rid of next patch, so, theoretically you'll need to have ALC and CRP to 50 in order to use Hand Of The Gods and Perfection.
I doubt the class quest required marks abilities are just going to be thrown up to level 50.
More likely they'll be distributed along the way as normal abilities or attained via quests like they mentioned certain DoW/M skills will be in the future.
Is 8 the maximum number of times you can ever gather from a node? In my output gear I'm able to mine a grade 5 deposit 8 times, and I just went back to a grade 1 deposit to test and was also able to mine 8 times. So I guess at this point as I keep leveling up I should focus on keeping just enough output for 8 gathers and then focus on perception?
Yep.
Perfection? I took that thing off my bar after getting tired of seeing my hand raise into the air only to see the skill fail. That's actually useful? It costs so many points, I just slapped Hand of the Gods back on there (they're so expensive I felt I had to pick one or the other ; ; ).
Here's a skill that's good for one round. Oh, and it can fail too. Who thought up this stuff? Ugh.
Side note: If you're leveling CRP and doing Walnut Masks, you should be using Assemble, not Mass Production, if you're choosing between the two. They do the same thing, but Assemble is granted from CRP (if that counts for anything on DoH classes... does "class affinity" apply to these?), and most important of all, it's "most effective for finished items".
I've used Perfection many, many times and I've seen it fail exactly once. I don't have Hand of the Gods, but Perfection crushes any other ability, IMO. It's basically a guaranteed 20-30% progress advancement.
