Hmm, it looks like I only got Perfection on Nov. 1st, and since I'm going off some hazy memories from quite a while back, I was probably thinking of Grandmastery instead of Perfection. I'll have to try it again if I find myself with enough free action points (hopefully DoH works like DoW/DoM in terms of cross classing once the next update rolls around -- then we shouldn't have to worry about action points).

As I said, I don't have HotG. Can you spam Rapid during that for even more progress? Can you get elemental instability (even though durability is protected)?

Yeah you can go unstable/chaotic during HotG. All it does is give you 3 or 4 (finished product) synth chances that suppress all durability loss.

There is no circumstance where I would ever intentionally click rapid synth.

Why else would you use Perfection?

Yeah, Grandmastery is pure garbage. Perfection works like Grandmastery should.

Both work, just depends on the circumstance.

If it's a hard synth obviously use Rapid w/ Perfection. An easier synth that I am trying to HQ I will use Careful with Perfection.

Standard is the way to go w/ HotG since it actually reduces your chance of success with the tradeoff of obviously no dura loss. The only chance you have at all to lose durability is if it goes chaotic and even then you don't lose hardly as much (I lost 6 dura last night on a synth that went chaotic).

Rapdi with Perfection is kinda silly imo... just use Assemble. That frees up two more AP.

Doesn't Assemble kill off all your durability if you fail though?

Assemble (and all of the other similar abilities) have only a few outcomes:
    +30% progress
    +30% progress -5 durability
    -5 durability
    -10 durability (rare)

It's worth it. I can't say whether or not Assemble can cause an unstable element to go chaotic, however.

    Or you can use both.

Generally, my crafts fall into three categories:

    1) mindless enter spam (turbo controller)
    2) something that is a difficult synth (e.g. requires a high sub-craft on my main, or significantly above my level on other DoH)
    3) finished product that I'm trying to HQ (in which case I like to maintain as much durability as I can for Touch Up spamming)

In each of the latter cases, Perfection+Rapid and Assemble are both useful tools. And since I don't have HotG, Ingenuity, or some of the other useful higher-level abilities, my choice isn't very hard to make.

They removed sub crafts in 1.19.

They did? Or do you mean for all new recipes not the dated ones? I've been doing the R50 leve for ARM every reset for x2 cobalt plate and the bull hoplon always says my carp skills are too low to make.

I agree. Pre 1.19, I used the 'standard' HQ set with Perfection, but now all the gear you want to HQ is above level 50. Now Perfection is a bit less useful than say Preserve, Maker's Muse, or Fulfillment to try to finish with the most amount of durability. That's sorta always been the case with high-level synths though and now it actually has real application.

I can't find the specific patch note that states it but I haven't seen such messages on any craft since (dated or not) but I haven't done that much crafting anyway.

Suppose it's possible it only applies to new recipes but I remembered it as applying to all.

If you're still getting the message it's likely I'm just remembering it wrong.

All the new recipes do not have any subcraft requirements, however they were not removed from any of the non-updated older recipes. Since, most (all?) of the local leves are still using older recipes, there is still the chance of using a subcraft.

The LTW40 leve in Ul'dah asking for Dated Leather Subligar (Black) always whines about my Clothcraft skill (20) being too low.

Oh and I was wondering, are they removing all the dated gear/synths when 1.20 hits? I've been trying to burn through as many nugget recipes on bsm and gsm as fast as possible just in case.

No afaik, and I doubt they're in any rush to get rid of them.
