So I guess Rapid is now just Standard with no quality gain or (successful) durability loss, right?
edit: looks like Success on Rapid is ~20% progress but Great Success is ~40%, so no.

What the fuck is
this all about? The amount of quality that increases through all types of synthesis gradually decreases based upon how much quality has risen while crafting.
"Oh sorry you're getting too much quality, so we're just gonna go ahead and reduce it for you."
So, they want to guarantee you'll never HQ anything without forking over the dough or burning the man hours on getting HQ materials... Grrrreeeaaat~
Yeah it's even harder to get HQs off of NQ materials... towards like 450 I was getting 9-11 on a careful success and like 18 on a great <.<
And the whole Coke thing being 100k at the npc (unless it drops from hamlets) you can't even get that as a HQ, so trying to HQ a darksteel ingot is way hard, being you'll only start with like 300~ quality (if you have 2 +1 nuggets) And with it being a lvl 54 synth... and the gear being class only... eh, what's the point lol
Hooooly shit, people need to wait until Hamlet defense battles actually happen before they start complaining that that is the only place to get their coke fix.
master's mend restores 30 durability
improvise is great for high lvl synths, it seems almost every synth im getting unstable
piece by piece the other one that advances greatly gives 30% progress
eye for detail sucks, -10% progress for 50 quality, might be good if you have HQ materials, also if you use when you start you get 0 quality.
i really wish to know what is adequate skill for hasty hand.. might be +10 levels, but i used hasty hand for a lot 40-44 synths and no fails.
With how useful and potent so many abilities are now, are the Lv.51~60 even all that difficult to complete or are they just a massive pain to HQ?
Regardless of the synth, with 3 abilities you can start out with 50% progress and 130+ durability. (Unerring Hand > Culmination + Rapid > Master's Mend)
I'm doing the same thing as you except I'm using piece by piece (20% progress) instead of culmination. Skilling up is pretty crazy right now and I know I'm not using an optimal build.. but I can safely spam careful towards 100% after using those three skills without paying much attention to the game, which works for me.
Anyway, you can get to 100% progress without using any durability if you use the five progress skills. I don't expect these skills to stay as they are: I've been using them all day on high-ish recipes and it doesn't seem like they can fail.
Culmination + rapid can be up to 40% but as you said with Piece by piece, By the book, Unerring hand, and Grand design you have 100% success on any synth guaranteed.
I'm not liking the new ability limitations and success rates for Careful and Standard seem to have been kicked in the dick.
Not to mention the whole too much quality = less quality.
Yeah it's kind of weird you can basically craft anything if you have the insta-progress skills, even if you're at minimum skill level with no crafting gear and a weathered tool lol. I haven't had it happen to me, but can crafting skills still fail to go off like they used to?
No.
The new ability system is just so retarded, I know it's been said but seriously, it's actually worse to equip more then 5 abilities.
The least they could do is allow you to equip 10 abilities, have them all show up, but after you've used 5 the rest disappear.
So, how does one find the recipes for Gryphonskin/Vanya, new weapons, and their parts? Just spamming Lv.50 local leves?
Apparently there's more to Twinthread than a handful of crawler cocoons...
How much progress do the R45 progress abilities (Piece by Piece, By the Book) give? The R30 progress abilities (Unerring Hand, Grand Design, Tricks of the Trade) give 20%.
Actually, now that I look back over the 1.22 notes... (not sure if it's been discussed much, sorry if I missed it.)
We are missing recipes for all the Gryphonskin parts/armor (yet they added Hippogryf Skin and Leather). Sorry, light melee and Leatherworkers!
We are missing recipes for all the Vanya parts/armor/silk/twinthread (yet they added Crawler Cocoons to Dragonhead harvesting). Sorry, mages and Weavers!
We are missing a recipe for Astrolabe Clinometer (yet they added the recipe for Astrolabe and added Astral Rock to Dragonhead quarrying). Sorry, Thaumaturges and Alchemists!
We are missing a recipe for Sarnga and its parts. Sorry, Archers and Carpenters!
We are missing a recipe for Alkalurops and its parts. Sorry, Conjurers and Goldsmiths!
So all we really got this update, crafting-wise, was Obelisk, Avengers, Mailbreaker, Rampager, and Heavy Darksteel armor, despite them advertising all 7 of the weapons and adding several new gathered items and recipes (that currently have no use). Enjoy, Marauders, Gladiators, Blacksmiths, and Armorers!
edit: I found the one tiny note about them only adding PGL/MRD/LNC/GLA weapons. I guess, for some reason, they can't add the rest until 1.22b or later. What the fuck? Too bad they mentioned all kinds of other stuff and listed their recipes and/or related items only to have them impossible to make.
So my max quality strategy so far has been:
Byregot's
Careful (on the initial white light)
Perfection -> Careful
Culmination -> Careful (about 250 quality at this point)
use Standard and Careful (along with Comfort Zone) and get to 80% progress (70% if you have one of the R45 progress abilities)
once you hit 80%, spam Careful until single-digit durability
Grand Design (or other progress ability) to wrap it up
The progress abilities basically fulfill the role of pre-patch Perfection, which is pretty useful. They also have one other major advantage over, say, Culmination+Rapid: they are not subject to the halved-progress penalty during elemental instability.
For anyone leveling with very few crafting abilities, Makers Muse(BSM10) is a freaking godsend. Sure, you lose ~30 durability, but you gain ~60% progress.
My quality synths look exactly like what SD just posted, except I don't have Culmination.
So there really isn't an HQ way to get Coke? sodumb
