Based on the little test I did a while ago that's not how it works, unless the minimum Craft/Mcraft for an R40 synth is 9/8.

Im pretty sure there's a lv check and anything under your current rank will mostly succeed regardless of your stats. Try performing a lv 52 synth with a weathered tool and no gear and see how far you get without using any cheating abilities.
After the crafting reform, we have to re-approach this with a clean slate of testing. All I know for sure is that higher M.craft and Craft will push higher averages for progress gain and quality gain, which will ultimately help you out for making HQ gear.
The JP translate thread on the OF is saying you can get 2x Flawless item if you HQ with your offhand. Has anyone tried that?
I'm curious, but don't care enough to try it myself. If it works, it seems like a mistake on SE's part.
I hope it's true and I hope it's intentional because there hasn't been much of a reason otherwise to use off-hand tools since a single HQ result is far more valuable than any higher-yield NQ results.
I assume off-hand quantity synths still have multiple tiers?
Could be a possible explanation (could also still be total BS, who wouldn't screenshot something like that?).
This seems to be the case from what I can tell. Was trying to see if you could still HQ Black Pearls+1 from the blacklip oysters cooking recipe, went about 20 HQs (some with main, some with off hand) getting only NQ black pearls before I called it quits. Small sample size though so I could just be extremely unlucky or the chance for t could just be abysmally low...
Dicking around on this game again, and I'm just wondering what site people use now for looking up recipes. It seems like a lot of them aren't getting updated, so looking to see which is the best bet.
Also semi-related~ what's the deal with the search in the wards? I made some dated gear/weapons and they don't show up when I search for them.

And it takes a bit for items you list to show up in search.
Are you...
-Searching the right city's wards?
-Looking under 2h weapons?
-Noting that items aren't listed in the expected order?
-Sure that your retainer is actually posted?
yes to all . I noticed I have to actually pick spellcraft ward to see it, I can't just do a random search for it. Is there a reason for that? I noticed other dated items will show if I just type "dated" but not the canes. (sorry I'm sure it's a totally newb question, just haven't played the game since they changed all this)
Any chance that it's case sensitive and you're typing it wrong? I know a lot of things (macro commands, mainly) that seem to be case-sensitive in this game.
Not sure if this is it, but you know that you can't search for the middle of an item, right?
In other words, if I want to search for "dated mythril wristlets" and I type "mythril", the search will not return that item. You have to search from the start of the name.
They sold so I'll let you know if this happens again with anything else I make. (makes me think it was a glitch on my end if people actually bought that shit) I'm not sure about the capitalization or w/e. I know it can't be the middle word thing though as I searched "dated" just to see what pulled up. I was selling dated ash canes. Other dated gear/weapons showed up in the search, but not them at the time.
So, how are people gearing to make darksteel nuggets, ingots and obelisk heads? I figure it's a craftsmanship synth, but even with 285 STR and 197 craftsmanship I still fail about about 40-60% of the time, just eyeballing. Is it just something to deal with because of how high a level the recipe is, or is it for some dumb reason possibly a magic craft synth?
I am pretty sure it's about having a good balance of mag. craft., craft. and control, rather than stacking one stat only.
Okay I'll try to get more of a balance between craft and m.craft and see if I notice an improvement.
