I also heard through the grapevine like previously stated that each recipe has a designated type of craftsmanship.
Seems like every crafter wants to synth naked on Hyperion which boggles my mind. (How does crafting naked help you at all? You could at least wear something to spiritbond or something...)
Between me and two other crafters I frequently speak with there is a dispute on gearing ourselves that we can't agree upon.
My friends jokingly call my leveling method the "break" method jokingly cause I will try to get 2 destabs on a multi-crystal synth to get the 200 quality. It's foolish and crazy but I net 2000~4000 exp a synth if things work out. If not... well I don't break things anymore but it's 1000~2000 on a bad synth. Because of this, none of my gear has +control on it although I plan on changing my strategy as I get closer to level 50. I advise to not follow what I do because I broke a lot of synths early on until I got the abilities to back up this method. Edit: I also like this method cause I'm crazy and I love living on the edge of a synth. Keeps me on my toes.
My other friend builds his setup with a full on magic craftsmanship + control build. He feels like this protects him from the destabs and uses lots of carefuls. He swears it works for him but you know... he's crazy.
My last friend picks up whatever the level's latest upgrade is. He's a one DoH skill kind of guy guy so his abilities are limited and he tailors towards the main hand for that class. None of us work with our off-hands for better or for worse. Mine's simply because I'm trying to level all of the classes and don't care enough to suffer more inventory loss.
To summarize: Until I see a real in-depth study somewhere, I would say a nice healthy balance or catering to your personal main hand is probably the best option. For me I think that abilities are the biggest game changer.
