I run a 5770 (SAPPHIRE 100283-3L Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card) on win7 pro 64 bit and it sits at a constant 29.4 fps. But that's probably more attributable to my i7-930 processor though.
Card's only $140 on newegg.
Wait for the next set of Nvidia drivers. Should fix any issues.
i got the 260 version this last go-round, no improvement whatsoever. just tired of fooling with it.
my old ATI died (was 5 years old) and a friend gave me an nvidia 220. works great on everything except ff lol.
Considering the nVidia errors have been around since April and they still got thumbs up their asses, rolling with ATI for the serious FFXI gamer isn't that poor a choice.
On my desktop I have a 4890 and it runs FF perfectly at 29.4, even with Starcraft II or Heroes of Newerth running in the background
Going to ATI for driver issues over Nvidia is like going to a Hyundai over a BMW. While in your specific situation your drivers are giving you problems, ATI is known generally for making awesome hardware and really crappy drivers. If it says anything my 5970 is currently sporting 12 month old drivers because it won't even work on anything else, and this is the top of the line card.
My 5870 doesn't like Whitegate at all. My 4890 ran FFXI really well.![]()
My Radeon HD 5750 runs FFXIV in 1920x1200 just fine. Also Starcraft II on full Ultra settings. No graphic lag or other graphical display issues.

Before the latest set of non-certified drivers came out I was using a 4870 512MB. It worked flawlessly in FFXI.
