I think it's rank dependent to start getting multiples and HQs of items. If it's something you've just started getting due to difficulty (like taking multiple hits to get), it's going to be a few ranks before you can start getting multiples or HQs.
You're probably right. I've never seen an HQ gold sand yet other than what I've bought from other people. I do hit gold sand fine though, I get three hits on it which isn't bad at 29. But I do have R32 +1 pickaxe.
So we've been talking about how off-hand quarrying is the same since the update... however I am noticing on some nodes that siltstone has been substituted in for one of the items. I don't quarry often but I'm starting to take notes on what has changed.
So I can do loot lists for Camp Dragonhead and Camp Iron Lake, if someone else is willing to pick up Treespeak and Halatali?
Also, anyone want to participate in an experiment... where we drop all the points *out* of VIT and MND to see if we can notice any difference in gathering?
My guess based on absolutely nothing:
VIT: Remaining "Health Bar"
MND: Chance of getting rare items
Perception: Chance of finding chosen item based on Exposed Ore slider. For example, Grade 3 Mining nodes have Iron Ore at -7 in LL, so higher this stat, higher the chance of getting Iron Ore.
Output: Chance of getting more than 1 item.
Gathering: Higher the stat, the more chances you get to mine at the node. Example, low gathering gets 5 strikes, high gathering gets 7.
Anyone want to help me out with these stats? Not sure if Gathering is better than Output or vice versa.
I think it has been established that Output increases the amount of attempts you get at a single gathering point before you have to move on (what you have down for Gathering). However, I think that's the only stat that has been observed... not to mention the only effect that can easily be tested.
My friend Myau Nei has started compiling a list where things are while gathering:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...CKGn2qoN#gid=3
Pretty handy, still needs some work to be more complete.
This has been established. Tested it myself and it took all of 15 minutes, to be honest.
Still not sure about gathering, but I'd guess that it has an effect on your bar and the loss you get from each strike. As far as Perception goes, it may affect the margin you have for error in the general area where the item is. It's pure speculation on my part, however. I have a feeling the stats affect more than one thing.
My LS mate seems to think that VIT affects the ease with which you are able to obtain items. For example, he tells me that he was able to get gold in the low 20s. I honestly didn't think that was possible, but he suggested that it may be because his VIT is capped at every rank.
MJV person has a complete list of all nodes over at ZAM, for all 6 DoL skills, for all grades here,
http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?foru...0871874&page=1
This is current version too, complete to the Dec. patch build.
I use this every time I'm targeting a specific drop.
(Node numbers will coordinate with maps to be generated in the future, but considering every nodes loot list is shown in its entirety, its easy enough to determine which node you have)
What rank can I start digging up gold ore? I'm thinking about going to grade 5 early and finding the nodes without scanner.
You want gold ore specifically?
At rank 45 now, with top gear/tools, with the pick at atleast 60%+ durability, I am just now starting to get 3 hits on gold ore. At rank 32, I can't recall for sure, but I would think you would need to almost have fully repaired pick and a lot of luck, to take in gold ore.
Gold sand, you could definitely do a lot better on.
If you're only just getting 3 hits at 45 I doubt I'd even get one hit until the high 30s/early 40s. I got 3 hits on gold sand just two ranks after I could first dig it up. Gold ore is nice because it makes more nuggets per rock than gold sand. But maybe I could get more gold sand digging grade 5 than 4, I mean 3 nodes seems to have gold sand in Coerthas looking at that Zam post and I could rotate them. But maybe I wouldn't even get 2 hits at grade 5 nodes at 32. I only get 4 at grade 4, or maybe 5, not sure since reaching 32 yesterday.
Just out of curiosity, why do you want gold ore? I have dug up 8 ores so far and you cant even turn them into nuggets
3 gold ore + 1 silver ore = 12 electrum nuggets.
Whereas 4 gold sand + 2 silver sand = 12 electrum nuggets.
So you get more nuggets for gold ore than you do sand. I just want a way to get more electrum mats than I can at grade 4. Grade 4 only has one gold node. By the time my miner is 38 my goldsmith will be 50 since you can't power level DoL. I obviously won't need electrum mats then other than for gil.
You're right there's no recipe for gold nuggets yet however (apart from HQ3 yellow copper).
Ok, I see where your coming from, however, if you want electrum it is way easier to find and dig up gold sand than ore imo. Especially in grade 5. Gold sand seems to be really common in Halitali if you dig below the default notch position.
I plan on hanging onto all the gold ore I get so I have a good supply when we can finally do something with it other than turn it into electrum.
Im pretty lucky that I have kept my miner and goldsmith around the same rank as I have never needed to buy gems or metals and always have something available to grind on. Before I started making the T1 gem rings I had 14 stacks of various gems lol.
I gave up on mining after the November patch that took silver needles from us. I was happily mining silver and synthing it as I got it, but that patch changed goldsmithing in the high 30s+ and I no longer needed silver. I figured I'd try avoid skilling on electrum so I didn't push my miner to grade 5 like I should have. It became apparent by 43 gold that I'd need to skill on electrum to get to 50 but by then it was too late to catch up mining without stopping gold. Not something I want to do as I'd like to stay in the top ten on my server.
My god that was a long story lol. But yeah I'd say 99% of my mining SP since 25 has come from mining leves. I get the most gold sand that way because all 3 nodes in Thanlan and Shroud promising points leve have gold sand.
I buy any gold ore I see for 10k but I avoid buying gold sand because the loss on NPCing rings is too high. I may start however just to get 50 then make the gil back selling sand to others.
Maybe I'll try hit Halatali and see how it goes for sand. Depends how easy the nodes are to spot without scanner. Quite easy if someone else is mining there at the time I guess.
Edit: I don't think we'll be making gold nuggets for a while. The way I see it is:
Copper Ring/Earring: R8/R8
Brass Ring/Earring: R18/R18
Silver Ring/Earring: R28/R28
Electrum Ring/Earring: R48/R38
Mythril Ring/Earring: R48/R48
Gold Ring/Earring: R58/R58
Platinum Ring/Earring: R68/R68
Notice how electrum ring is 20 higher than the previous ring while the earring isn't. It's clear that's an error and will be adjusted when SE gets round to fixing jewellery. I think we can expect tier 3 gem rings at some point using mythril too.
So yeah point being, I don't think there will be a need for gold nuggets until SE raise the rank cap.
Bit too much goldsmithing talk there lol.
I picked up mining a few days ago due to noticing in order to take GS up you'll need it or a large amount of gil to buy all the ore you'll need leveling. My God is it boring. It's worse than crafting since you actually have to pay attention somewhat and can't totally watch tv as you do it. It does however supply you with a good amount of mats for leveling gs/bs/armorer so I'm fairly happy. Now for a rather nub question(but seriously dont' feel like looking through 14 pages of this thread to find the answer), I'm currently at rank 12 (targeting limonite/iron) on level 2 nodes. What rank do you guys usually hit level 3 nodes? I know you get lay of the land 3 at 18 and that's the easiest way to go but is it better to go before hand and try? I currently need iron for bs/armorer and would like some silver for GS. Also doing the level 3 nodes would put me nearby rank 20 camps so that I could do behests every hour to get some easy sp.
