Yeah, if you want to try grade 5 early, Treespeak is the only place to even attempt it. You are pretty much guaranteed to find 3 (if not 4) mining nodes in a very small area and they are a lot harder to miss than in other zones.

Read this thread a bit, and even though there are miners in my LS I never though to ask if it was remotely challenging to find nodes. Is it like hide-and-seek or something? Lol

Do you have Lay of the Land/Prospect set? That's how you find mining points.

I've been working on a small mining-related project for a while now, and I'd like to share it with everybody, the data is 100% accurate since I logged every zone multiple times/I always update my data after every mining session, but I'm sure I'm missing a few pieces here and there (except for Treespeak, it's at least 99% complete).

    Iron Lake

    Treespeak

    Halatali

    Dragonhead

As you can see, this is for grade 5 only, but I'll probably start working on new grades as they're released/implemented, this should also help those who wish to move up to grade 5 before getting Lay of the Land V.

Any feedback is highly appreciated, especially if you can point me to a node or drop I'm missing (or some of the sweet spots I'm missing for the lesser/garbage items).

EDIT: images appear a bit blurry for some reason... just copy/paste the link in your browser to get a better quality.

It would be interesting to know which spawn locations belonged to which node loot pool, but that may be too much effort.

Wow I didn't know Thanalan was so spread out and some even underground. No wonder I had no luck trying to mine it before 38. Treespeak looks way easy for that apart from the potential encounter with the goblin NM. I don't know why SE put that among mining/botany nodes. They did the same with Ureaus in Coerthas but it's less of an issue there.

    Zetto,

You should likely addopt the conventional sweet spot notation of +5/-5 scale, which is the general way used by essentially everywhere else.
    Should be easily converted.

Additionally, if you wanted possibly another way to organize, you could use the available loot lists posted here,
    http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?foru...0871874&page=1
From those lists, it would only be important to note which node location belongs to which loot list.
The posted loot lists are very accurate, so you can feel safe using them.

Other then that, I love the graphical nature of the information.

    I might do that, I just realized I put 0 instead of 1 for the bottom of the bar, will have to fix that sometime later lol;

Also, I've actually been looking into that but I wanted some sort of confirmation for my data before I attempt anything, putting it this way was just easier.

Oh and, that ZAM post is pretty accurate (it matches all of data so far), but I'll have to figure out a way to compile it all together in the next few days, shouldn't be too hard though, thanks!

    ------------------------------------------------------

I just re-compiled a sample, what do you guys think? Better?

    I like that a lot.

I already have the image printed to help with my final grind to 50 mining, as I am often multi-tasking while I camp the spawn of the goblin NM, and my hand written notes are never very clear, since the nodes are so close together.

    Thanks

Very new at all gathering, and was wondering if someone can give me some help here for leveling mining and botany r6 -> r20+ in uldah region.

    1) For now I am just trying to level fast do not care about what items I get. Should I just find the closest possible 3 nodes and keep doing them over and over?

    2) What rank do you move to the next grade for best SP gain? Like what rank do I start grade2 and grade 3

    3) kinda similar as 2, but what rank do I start doing say a r20 leve?

Thanks for any answers or any additional help on lvling these fairly quick up to 20ish.

1 - Yah, make the smallest triangle and just keep running the cycle. Do not forget about OH nodes, as these do not move significantly, and can often save enough time to justify the lower SP.

2 - Conventional wisdom has said to move to the next rank when you obtain the scan ability for that grade, so 8/18/28/38. If you can manage to find nodes without the scan, I would hazzard to say that a couple levels earlier would be efficient, but only if you are good at locating nodes without the scan.

3 - Leves become available prior to the scan abilities for the grade. You will get new leves at 5/15/25/35

About #1, what is OP? And I thought all nodes didnt move around and you could just use a map like on the other website to find the nodes?

    OH = Off Hand.

OH nodes will "shift" in their same area, always within visual range, while MH nodes will become exhausted and move to a new position that can be a significant distance from where it existed previously. Spend some time actually doing DoL and you will see how this works.

Not trying to troll or anything just asking an honest question. Is this game playable yet? I haven't been keeping up with patch notes or updates and I've never read the forums... at all. So is this game not shit yet? Is the combat fun and well paced? Competitive yet?

Edit: Whoops this is apparently MinEr questions, not minor questions <_<; Where the hell is the random question thread.

Ok after trying gathering out a bit and taking miner and botanist to 16 I have 1 serious problem and a couple more questions,

    1) I keep damaging the item way too much. This situation is happening way too often: Your strike damaged the iron ore (iron ore are above) -> so I move the notch up. Next harvest: Your strike damages the bone chip (bone chips are below) etc etc. How do I have this not happen so much...? (And no my gear is not damaged)

    2) People have said to find a good "triangle" and keep doing those 3 nodes. Or that say a certain area like skull valley is best for grade 2 because of lots of close triangles. How is that even possible? I understand finding a good triangle but it never lasts, the nodes dont repop eventually?

1 - You are experiencing DoL specific Fatigue. There is no UI indication that you have hit this fatigue. It is not the same as surplus, and the only symptom is instantly failing by damaging items. Do something else for 10 hours or so. This is an Anti-RMT measure, and there is no way around it.

2 - yes, nodes move. There is always the same number of nodes available, just their possition moves. You can't setup a triangle and just use it forever. You get a triangle figured out, and at best you get 30-60 minutes before it changes. Find the new locations, and rinse/repeat. One suggestion to help make nice small triangles, is to take advantage of off hand nodes. They do not move, and can always be found in the same relative location. You can easily base your triangles around them.

Just a minor thing, at node 11 at treespeak on your lovely map, I found (well, demolished really) a dragon obsidian. only problem was, I was mining at +2, silver ore's sweet spot, and it gave me the "you sense dragon obsidian right where you are mining" message. Is it possible that the sweet spot for dragon obsidian is wrong, or there's two places for it? Or maybe I just went insane for a second and somehow put the bar at the top without noticing, though I don't remember doing so.

Maybe it's because my miner is level 8, heh. I'll try and keep an eye out in case it happens again though.

It is actually wrong, I found that out a few minutes after I uploaded the last picture but thought I'd just fix it on the final version I'm releasing next week along with all the other zones, sorry about that.

Oh wow. First ive heard of that, I thought regular fatigue was enough already. I guess that is what happened tho cuz I was gathering about 4-5hrs. Really tho 10hr cooldown on that you think? I asked another gatherer in LS and he said more like 2hrs go do something else then come back
