Damn, those are some nice boots.. I'm still using the Dodoskin Workboots. I'm sure that, even if they aren't optimal level, the stats on the Leather Workboots would still beat the Dodoskin. I don't know if it's just my luck, or if it's just how Botany leve rewards are, but they only give me DoH gear. Leather Tool Belt from R10, Leather Smithy's Gloves from R20, and Velveteen Rope Belt (Black) from R30.

At 25 they give one more output than dodoskin boots. I don't think that's worth the hassle of getting them repaired. 27+ leatherworkers seem rare on Wutai.

I'm rank 36 fisherman and I have no idea when I picked this up. Wonder if this will allow me to finally see some crystals. I equipped it tonight after swapping out all my abilities while desperately trying to finish a rank40 leve (seconds short of getting my third quest item!)

I was hoping that's what it meant, but then I realized that the game descriptions generalize shards/crystals/clusters all as "crystals" and my hopes went back down... Let us know!

Judging. From the other Truth of... skills, comments indicate it is attained at r30

    lol.
You can easily do that leve as it becomes available since the HQ ores aren't really similar to the real ones, they're as easy as Iron Ores, or Obsidians, if anything.

I just remember the horror I had with the HQ Iron ore leve in LL at 16. I broke 6/8 of the ores and the time ran out. I wasn't in fatigue because I got a ton of obsidian and hadn't been mining before it. I did complete the leve at 16 once or twice too though. But I definitely disagree that the ores are as easy as the drops from the previous tier. Unless digging up HQ Mythril is different than HQ Iron.

I'm going to need electrum nuggets soon. Do you think there is a recipe using sand? Because ore seems to be tier 5 and YG only lists a recipe with ores.

I don't really remember how easy were HQ Iron ores but I had absolutely no problem doing HQ Mythril at 25 (or whenever the leve was first avaiable, something), so you should be fine.

Also, I tried doing a few leves while being hard fatigued and it seems (eye balling) that gaurdian favor removes the effect for the duration of the leve? anybody else had the same experience?

I always get guardian favor, so I can't speak to that specifically, but yeah... I've never had a fatigue problem while doing a leve. I haven't tested this since some 15-20 ranks ago... but I can't remember if that's only true for levequest target nodes, or for all nodes. I want to say levequest target only.

Hmmm. I have been skipping Guardian's Favor during leves. I attempted a rank 40 fishing leve that required getting something specific (as opposed to testing 3 nodes) and I tried over and over for 25 minutes without success. Desperate, I tried swapping in some different fishing abilities (Truth of Seas, Veteran Trade, Way of Plenty as opposed to my then default setup of Veteran Trade equivalent for all three gathering disciplines). Then I quickly nabbed the 2/3 items needed just before time ran out.

I wonder how these two things (the abilities I equipped and others feeling that Guardian's favor helped) are related.

Ooh... Why would you skip out on Guardian's Aspect on "Catch 3 ____s" leves? Getting over 2k skill from three easy catches is too great for me to ever pass up. I don't think I've ever done one of those types of leves without Guardian's Aspect.

Also, I've had a few stupid leves where I just wasn't catching what I needed and I ended up finishing with like 4 minutes on the clock. I got assloads of other fish in the process... I had only recently removed Veteran's Trade from my abilities because I find it to be mostly a joke.

I'm currently on the HQ Mythril leve. There's two yarzons and a footpod camping my first mining point. What the fuck?!
I'm glad this is only an 8k reward, only picked it up to test it.

Edit: Ok you're right, the HQ Mythril is easy to hit at 25. I hit my first rock at 16 minutes due to all the crap above, finished leve at 13. I did break one of them however. Maybe I was just fatigued and didn't realise when I failed the 20 leve at 16.

Never skip the 3 item leve because you don't think you can get the items. If you have access to the leve, you should be able to do it easily.

The mining 40 leve, for HQ Obsidian btw, was very easy at 35, and I would even skip when the HQ item would come up, in favor of waiting for Sweat of Brow to proc.

I would say my gear is above average, but still would think in atleast reasonably current gear obtaining the 3 items when they come up, would be very possible.

    Gear for ref,
Fishing Hat - Leather Jerkin - Canvas Workgloves - Safari Belt - Leather Culottes - Toadskin Workboots (upgraded for Botany level, yes I know to high for 35, now 36 mining)
    Polished Pickaxe, Iron Sledgehammer

I almost failed rank 40 Obsidian leve yesterday due to toad/frog aggro, two frogs decided to just chill in the tunnel and I just couldn't pass until they moved 15 minutes later lol, it was very easy though, maybe easier than the previous one.

Also, "Several new regional guildleves for Disciples of the Land have been added."

Here's the update notes relevant to miner. Made edits to change this from speculation to observation.

Several new regional guildleves for Disciples of the Land have been added.
Seems to be the 20/30/40's for all cities. I'm hearing there are more aggro problems at leve locations than before.

The amount of skill points required to attain ranks 11 through 31 has been reduced.
This is under the "battle" subject heading, but pretty much has to apply to all classes, right? Looks like your rank is automatically adjusted the next time you earn skill points.

    Enemy territories have been expanded.
The mobs that do aggro will chase you further. You do get a log message when they've stopped chasing you though.

High quality +1 and +2 materials can no longer be obtained through combat. The frequency of drops will remain the same, though all items will now be either normal quality or high quality +3.
This says through combat, we'll have to see if that applies to gathering as well or not. Edit: Still can get +1 and +2 items through gathering.

Player inventory capacity has been increased from 80 to 100 slots.
    Amen.

    Bronze Sledgehammer 1 → 10
    Higher optimal rank.

The following adjustments have been made to gathering:
The chances of obtaining specific items has been increased when a "sweet spot" is found during the targeting phase.*
    * This refers to the phase of gathering in which a portion of the exposed ore to strike, the section of a tree to notch, or the depth at which to fish is selected.
Hints are now provided in the log during the targeting phase.
Each time you successfully gather, you get a hint on which direction you are likely to get more of the item.

The following Disciple of the Land actions have been changed to search only for gathering points of the specified grade:
Lay of the land only works for that specific level of node. You can't get free quicks anymore by using another tier Lay of the Land with nodes in the same zone. /cry

There's some other general stuff that have smaller impacts, but I think I picked out the most relevant things.

Looks like finding the sweet spot for mats is going to be cake now, you get hints for the specific mat you just mined after every successful hit and once you find the sweet spots you get a message that you are exactly at the right spot, lol.

Ok, making this post then will add a bunch of edits as we find stuff out. Also, some stuff edited after doing a couple hours of mining.

    • Loot tables from nodes are completely changed. I don't know yet if there is any rhyme or reason to them or if it is 100% random. I'm getting things like limonite and pyrite from Grade 5 now. This was both at Treespeak and Dragonhead.
    • Speaking of Treespeak, there are aggro Diremites there. Con yellow at rank 42.
    • Likewise, remainder amounts for items are changed. I don't know if they are simply different, or random.
    • Long story short, you can't know what your item is going to be beforehand, or at least until maybe we figure out the new system.
    • Ul'dah does have rank 40 leves now, so it does look like all cities should have 20/30/40.
    • Gil from leves seems low (small sample size) but the rank 30 leve in Ul'dah had ~1400 guild marks which I think is normal.
    • At Treespeak, can't use Prospect II for Quick. I'm assuming this is fixed in all zones. =(
    • There could very well be a Steel Pickaxe Head in game, waiting on some data-mining to see what we've got there. It looks like there are two new mid-rank pickaxes, and a rank 47 sledgehammer.
    • I can't figure out the "hint at aiming" thing. After I got Gold Ore, it told me I was at the correct level for Gold Ore. Mined again, and got iron. Edit: Looks like this is an indication of the *chance* to get something, and not a guarantee.
    • It might be that my equipment got so badly in disrepair, but I actually dropped down to 3 attempts per node when I normally get 5. Wondering if something changed there. Edit: repaired equipment, and I'm back up to 5.
    • My gut feeling is that it's going to be harder to get specific items or target high-gil items.

I had 3 pieces that were at 0 durability (don't remember which) and the rest were really low (like 10-15% remaining).
