I don't think this is the case.

What are the stars based on anyway? Sometime a Leve shows as 2 stars when exchanging it, and then on another leve, the very same one shows 0 stars.

The stars are the amount of bonus you get for trading in that particular leve for a new one. Certain leves award more stars to certain ones than others.

i.e. Popotoes in Peril might give 1 star for the Dodo Leve you're trading it in for, but 0 for the Spriggan Leve you do instead.

Yes, I know WHAT it does, but what are they based on? What decides how much specific leve grants another leve?

There hasn't been any rhyme or reason that I can discern from one to the other, other than maybe completion time and difficulty?

And I haven't had much success getting bonus stars to transfer between Fieldcraft and Battlecraft personally.

Well, it if were based on completion time and difficulty, shouldn't it grant the same bonus to all leves? Hell, some leves I can't even trade in for one, while its the only one I can trade in for another...

Maybe there really are leve trees and you can only trade in/get bonuses on ones that are in that same tree? Spitballing ideas here.

Just completed Level 20 Faction Leve "Operation: Reave-quest" @Skull Valley. It's offered by Brotherhood of the Broken Blade and we completed it on Legion difficulty (5 star) with a full party of 15.

Had to kill 10 Buccanners (4 bilge-soaked, 4 bloodied, 2 windborn). First four come in groups of 2 (1 bilge-soaked/1 bloodied in each group). Non-aggro, do not link with other group either (as far as we could tell). After the first two sets, had to move to the crab peninsula near Aleport to kill two groups of three (1 bilge-soaked, 1 blooded, and 1 windborn in each).

Mobs types were as follows:
Windborn = Marauder, had brandish II
Bloodied = Gladiator
Bilge-soaked = Archer, had Wide volley II and it HURTS

We all got 2699 as a reward from chest.
One of our members also received a Hawksbill Shell from killing the last mob.
I flagged it and got an additional 4930gil and also received 1965 gladiator guild marks.
Took us about 20minutes to complete it (40min timer).

Just did Collecting Sea Shells (Horn & Hand, 20, 100 credits), exchanging one old leve for 2 stars, bumping the reward from its originally listed ~2.3k marks to ~2.8k marks. For completing it in about six minutes, I got 4k bonus gil.

Collecting Sea Shells seems the only thing Horn and Hand ever offers. What do you have to do in it?

Run around Limsa and open some boxes that're marked in areas on the map like Guildleve mobs. It's almost painfully simple and it's worth a good chunk of gil.

Three questions for clarification

1) It seems the faction leve take up one of the 8 slots for battle/field leves. Is this correct?
2) Is the amount in the chest split among participants? Or are those amounts (a few thousand gil) for each participant?
3) The only thing the non-faction-leve-starter receives are the contents of the chest, correct?

It seems to me there's very little reason to convince someone to help you with the faction leve.

1.) yes
2.) chest is split like a normal chest as far as I can tell
3.) they get a roll on any potential item that comes from the end chest

If people would help you on normal guildleves at the stone they'd help you with a faction leve. They're probably more likely to assist you because of the novelty factor.

Got an Onion piece and 2k guildmarks to go with it today. Was pretty cool. I'm waiting on the sea shell one to give me a reward that's not just money so I can do it.

How did you complete it and keep the Onion Item for yourself? It didn't get randomly given to someone in your party?

The onion item is on the rewards list when you accept the faction leve.

From what I can tell from observation so far, the Onion Doublet comes from Azeyma's Shields, the Gaskins come from Broken Blade, and the boots come from Horn and the Hand. The only one I can't directly confirm out of the three is the boots. There's a JP running around on Gysahl with the full set, but I don't possess the necessary powers of communication to ascertain where he got the shoes. Horn and Hand 20 leve would fit the bill though - I'm sitting on 100 H&H and BB faction points as it stands, I'll keep checking H&H every reset to see if the boots pop up as a reward there.

Ah, I didn't know the onion gear showed up as a reward. An Onion Doublet dropped from my leve, but from the chest at the end, not the official reward. It got auto loted to someone in my PT.

Was it still an Azeyma's shields leve on any chance? Just curious, because if it was Broken Blade then my observations on where each piece comes from are probably off base.

Yep, the doublet came from the chest drop of an Azeyma's Shield.

To save someone else the trouble, I first saw the Faction leves available in LL. I wondered if Uldah offered some different ones. They offered the exact same three leves with the same rewards (all gil for me).

- 1x Skull Valley (LL)
- 1x Bloodshore (LL)
- 1x Tranquil (Gridania)

I did the Bloodshore one "Operation: Kobold as Ice" and the chest left 1799gil. No items. However, one of the kobolds dropped this: http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/titan-elect...ce?id=10011109 "Titan Electrumpiece"

The kobolds were challenging and should be pulled one at a time if you're soloing this.
