Final Fantasy XI on Laptop (issues running)

i have an older model Acer Aspire 3000 series laptop, i have 1.5GB of Ram in it, 128MB of that is dedicated to the onboard SIS 760 Video Card.

i've run the FFXIBench3 and scored almost 3500 on LOW, more than enough to run the game.

installed FFXI + all addons, + POL, DirectX 8,9,10 (dont have 11)

POL boots, i login, FFXI starts, loads Character Select screen, then dumps me back to windows with somethign about d3d8.dll, i've search all over and i cannot find a fix, any one here have previoius issues with this error?

my older Celeron line Laptop with 256MB or ram, ran the game ok with 3d Analyzer, this laptop gets a way better score, actually lets me load FFXI, i can watch the intro (at "Select Character") screne, once i go past that and it starts to display the characters, thats when it crashes.

I would start by reinstalling dx8, then try it again. If that doesn't work, try 9. 10 doesn't work with XP

But that is a directx file in that error code.

have you tried to reinstall the game after the directx was installed?

everything is/was a fresh install, i had windows 7 on it before but it kept acting up, installed XP Sp3, all necessary drivers, DX8, FFXI+addons. ive tried to reinstall DirectX but it says its currently installed and is ok.

from what i can recall about some other directx games, if directx is installed AFTER the game the game has to be reinstalled to work correctly with directx.

if i re-install it, would that require doin all the udpates again? that took me 5hours.. or can i just copy the folder after the install?

copying the folder should work, just the ROM* folders
